Tina's farewell tour was one of the most fabulous concerts I've ever been to. The woman was INCREDIBLE! This could be really great, if they get it right. I saw her years ago and I agree she was phenomenal - one of the best concerts I've ever been to. Such energy and charisma. |

Quite a short initial booking period, 21st March to 16th June. No performances are currently listed for 2nd-4th April.

Oh well, will this be the next Mamma Mia or Viva Forever?
If this was in New York, I wouldn't be booking a ticket for this, but London curiosity will get the better of me, but saying that it doesn't get my digestive juices flowing.
Surprised the show hasn't called this 'Simply The Best', but are they waiting for the critics to do that?

Okay so what about Rachel Tucker as Tina? Those who went to see her on tour will know she was a Tina impersonator as a teenager so her playing the part now would be brilliant and she'd sing the hell out of the songs. Only thing is, is it of high enough callibre for Rachel? I know it's in the West End but it's jukebox and I'm just wondering what the production values would be (basically I'm being a bit of a MT snob).h I love so much about this thread. Lewis being colour blind mainly but the elephant in the room is the fact Rachel Tucker was a white Tina impersonator. It reminds me of those old Stars in their Eyes where people would black up like it was no big deal. I have bought a cheapo ticket for the preview run. I am mainly in it for late era Tina songs and seeing if anyone can sustain that walk for a whole run. |

Checked this out on presale as i thought it could make a good christmas present for family... but those £10 seats are naff! Hoped they'd at least have something cheap at the front of the balcony... will wait and hope it discounts closer to the time.

I went to a focus group about this musical a few months ago, I'm surprised they went with this poster because almost everyone in the group said it reminded them too much of the Lion King poster! They seemed to want to get it across that the show is more than your usual jukebox musical and will be covering serious issues like domestic abuse. I went into the focus group with very little interest in the show but came out thinking I might give it a go. |

i dont think this is a viva forever or mamma mia, i suspect it could be more jersey boys. Tinas story is interesting and dramatic. her music is strong. this definitely has potential

but those £10 seats are naff Grand Circle row L or slips? The slips are very good value - movable chairs, and a lot of folk are pleased with row L too. Which would you go for TM? |

I just watched What's Love Got to Do With It again, now that the musical announcement sparked my curiosity again about Turner's life (shout out to Angela Bassett and f*ck Hollywood..her acting is Oscar material). I'm a bit skeptical about how this can be musicalised. The heart of the story of Tina Turner's life based on her relationship with Ike Turner, though passionate, is completely violent and abusive. The movie is pretty explicit and graphic, and I don't expect the show to be as much. There's nothing thrilling about seeing this kind of violence on the screen, but its graphic nature and the extreme violence he inflicted and her overcoming these hardships is probably what makes her character arc stronger. I feel that in a musical, they will somehow tone down the violence, which is unfair to the truth of the story, and also reduces the impact. His violence wasn't just physical, he emotionally tormented and manipulated her. It's pretty ugly..all of it. And so I am a bit concerned that this will be just glazed on, while the major focus will be her career highlights and performances of her concerts. That kind of stuff doesn't appeal to me. Hand over the drama, please. I'm also not sure how Tina's catalogue lends itself for emotional moments. I could be wrong, and there are musicals that have done wonders with rearranging songs to make them work in very dramatic moments and not just function as performance pieces. We'll see. I'm just waiting for Hamilton to reallocate me in a date in March so I can book my Tina ticket around that week  |

Is that a new press photo of Tina that Baz tweeted? I thought she had semi-retired following her last tour. Rarely been seen/interviewed. Wonder if she'll do a bit of press or performing for this new musical.
How much was Carole King involved in Beautiful?

Just basing it on the fact that she played the title role and is shown in the footage they're still using. |

From the way Baz was tweeting about it, it sounded like the role hadn't been cast at all, that they were still in the process. Could've just been a way to build more interest I guess!

Ive not been told who's cast in it but I was told it's not Warren. And I wouldn't go by what footage they are using to promote it.. they have so little to use until the casting is announced that it's just filler..
