lwtheatres.co.uk/whats-on/murder-at-the-gates/A new musical by Steven Sater and James Bourne. They’ve workshopped this show a couple of times in London already, and have just begun another this week, with public rehearsed readings at The Other Palace Studio on 11th and 12th April. Evelyn Hoskins and Jamie Muscato confirmed to be in the cast, and I believe Steven Serlin is as well.

What is it with this theatre and hiring the same people all the time?! I love Jamie and Evelyn but my god, switch it up a bit!
... the show sounds interesting though!

I think it’s just coincidence in this case - they’ve both been involved since the first workshop, which I don’t believe had an association with TOP

Repetory companies used the same performers all the time. Theatre companies in the old sense are the same group of people playing different characters. Why is it such a problem? Or did theatre not exist before 2010?

I love Muscato. And Moscato sparkling wine. I'd love to share a Moscato with Muscato.

It's not that it's an issue, it's just boring that there is never any variety in performers there. It's just the same names every time.

Says the man who'd put Tracie Bennett and Rachel Tucker in everything... firstly, a two hander show with those two would be EVERYTHING! and secondly, at least I'd bump them around venues and producers, not just the same venue and/or Paul Taylor Mills. 😂

Wish I could make the workshop for Murder at The Gates. We really need Bonnie & Clyde or Carrie to be staged at The Other Palace. Evelyn as the lead. A nice long run. And the chance for other people to workshop stuff in the meantime.

Jeremy Jordan says that it's coming soon at every concert he does over here! He even said it 3 years ago. I know that a production company did have the rights and was planning to do it but then it randomly vanished from it's upcoming productions list so don't know what's happening there.

The cast is amazing for this.
Evelyn Hoskins, Jamie Muscato, Siobhan Athwal, Scott Hunter, Mandalena Alberto, Steven Serlin, Arun Blair-Mangat, Ed MacArthur and Genevieve McCarthy.
OK Other Palace, the two leads may be predictable and boring choices, but the others are amazing so y'all better bring it.

Just saw the first reading of this. Brilliantly performed, only a couple of small sound hiccups.
Loved it overall - the songs were great on the whole and the story was ridiculous yet funny and interaguing. There were a few standouts that i would desperately like to listen to again already. All the actors were fantastic, I was only familiar with Jamie Muscato before but loved every performer.
The ending was the only bad point, it got rather murky and confusing I thought - especially with the character of Graham. It was trying to be too clever and lost its clarity and true surprise along the way. The end song was however a stand out.
Anyone else seen this yet?

Also there tonight. Great performances all round (though after Bloody Bloody Jessica Fletcher, I can’t take Steven Serlin seriously - thankfully his character wasn’t serious!) There’s a whole lot of potential there, and some really good songs, but for me it was too long and I agree, the ending is just a bit confusing.

Was there on Thursday night. Thoroughly enjoyable at this stage, very funny and some cracking songs. Cast were amazing, definitely lived up to expectations.
Agree that the ending fell flat. If I'm optimistic, they should be able to resolve a lot of that confusion in a staged production -- feels like some of the reveals would land better if we'd seen visually certain things happening beforehand (sorry to be opaque, trying not to spoil anything...). I didn't feel the show was overly long but it certainly was long to be sat in the Other Palace's studio seats. A few songs definitely felt superfluous though.
Now hoping we hear more from this on this side of the pond sooner rather than later.

Even better than I was expecting. The music was amazing (there was only one song I wasn't too keen on) and the cast were excellent (especially Jamie Muscato, of course!) I would love to see this properly staged.
