My impression, without reviewing each song, was that it was very much an ensemble piece with the songs divided amongst the key characters. Yes Miriam probably sings more but it definitely doesn't compare to the likes of Tina or Wicked. That said I'm sure vocal fatigue strikes different people at different levels of vocal stress and it did seem to me that she was struggling the most when singing with others. I do think the absolute least you can expect from a (costly) West End production is for the cast to sing in tune so whatever the issue is hopefully they can sort it! Wicked? There are only two challenging songs in it. Defying Gravity and No Good Deed. I just meant in terms of having one cast member singing the vast majority of songs, but it's also well known as a challenging sing. |

"Only" two challenging songs have managed to permanently damage the voices of quite a few Elphabas, huh? But I guess BurlyBeaR's technique is so good they didn't have a single effect on his vocals during his 12-month run as principal West End Elphaba. Impressive 👏

I mean idk, this isn’t Tina, where I think it’s absolutely justified that the actress does a 6 show schedule given the ridiculous amount of songs the actress has to sing in that show (and given the amount dancing too). Miriam singing flat in some songs isn’t because she’s overworked, I don’t think that can be used as the excuse! Have you even seen the show? Of course it can be used as a reason, Miriam sings 90% of the score and most of the songs have loads of high belting. Both times I've seen her she only was flat in the high note of Roar (which she shouldn't even attempt to do imo) so if now she's flat in other songs as well, then it's definitely vocal fatigue. Apart from that she was amazing and a true star x Interestingly, I saw this three, maybe four times in Manchester and I thought that Miriam was actually less of a character for me, even though the show is about her, I was more drawn to the others. Particularly Cassidy, who I couldn't keep my eyes off when she was on stage. I think Miriam is a much softer performance and not sure if I want the character to be a bit more ballsy and sassy. Personal taste I guess. |

It has amused me reading criticism of MTL's vocal ability (she's brilliant) on the same forum that defends Glenn Close's!

While I will say I don't think Miriam probably played a great 'character' that great, I thought as a performer she was magnetic and she had such star quality it didn't bother me. As for Cassidy...while she nailed her character, every time she appeared on that stage she annoyed the absolute **** out of me. She reminded me of a yappy Chihuahua. I found her voice very grating and while it has to be said she was great in the role, the combination of her character and her performance just rubbed me the wrong way. |

Finally saw “&Juliet” the musical!
I have to say, apart from the super music, arrangements and Cassidy Janson vocally (when I didn’t want to slap sang a super song in act 2), this Brittany Spears meets Shakespeare new musical was a little flat, a tad panto, some miscasting (Romeo was a drip), woke-tastic and the gay/non-binary second storyline and overall blind colour casting - a tad tedious. It wanted desperately to be Six mashed with Rock of Ages but sadly misses the mark. Broadway would have done it better. Tonnes of exploding ticker tape though! 7/10

Which mincing queen are you talking about, there were a number of them in this. In fact practically every male character in it was a mincer including Shakespeare. The only remotely masculine one was the son who ended up with the non binary character x |

Tonnes of exploding ticker tape though! 7/10 While I'd agree with everything else you've said (especially re Cassidy who also annoyed the crap out of me) and your score, from the new musicals I have seen on Broadway the last few years, this production was head and shoulders above most of them, particularly the juke-boxers. If anything it is a little too flashy for it's own good. It's 2nd tier crowd-pleasing musical theatre, but it definitely outshines most others within that category x |

We are arriving early so going to the box office when it opens or even before shouldn’t be a problem. I would love to sit in the stalls for this as I’ve always been in the royal or grand circle. But stalls tickets are very expensive for that day... |
