Were they LED? I thought it was very clever projection but I was unsure. yeah it's LED they posted a pic on Instagram yesterday. Nice to finally see you earlier btw It’s both. Main “wall” upstage is projection on gorse (aka sharkstooth, a material widely used in theatre that becomes translucent when lit from behind) and a decent pitch video wall behind that. That’s how they get it to ‘sparkle’ and ride the brightness for punch. The returns either side are projection with backlighting. |

Well, surpassing all exceptions this really works well, for the most part.
We do have to admit though, ultimately it really is just a posh panto, complete with ballroom sequence, pop songs shoehorned in sideways, the scene-change song reprise, the evil parent and the sad sidekick who gets a happy ending.
Extremely well produced, video on this a particular strong point (although tho cheesy Windows Media Player style visualisations were a bit naff. Does it really need those bouncing sound meters?) but is all the sparkle there to detract us?
A great night out and will be a success in the short term, not sure it’s one for longevity.
Crowd on their feet before the cast had even bowed.
Gallery closed for it’s second week albeit a mid-week performance.
The best thing this show does is not take itself too seriously. Where other Jukeboxes try too hard, this know what it is and it has fun with it.

This. Is. Sensational.
Had a random anxiety attack this afternoon so this was just the tonic this evening. I’ve not seen such a strong set of singers and dancers in a while. They lift the roof off the place! The leading lady - think Emile Sande meets Beverly Knight - is outstanding. As are all the cast, in fact. Romeo is sexy as hell. Sound, visuals all wonderful. Songs are largely very well placed and used wittily.
But the most important thing of all. You care for the characters, despite the froth. That’s the key to it, I feel.
Marvellous.

Saw this for £19.50 this afternoon and it was great I think. The more I think about it the more I liked it. Some bits I was like whoah too cringe! The story is quite weird and it was a weird way to do things. Also I thought act two was so much better packed with incredible showstoppers. The showstoppers are 5 stars but its the bits in-between that aren't brilliant. There are bits which you will be stunned by. So much money been thrown at this, a very clever set. The cast is insane and vocals are top notch. Best sound design in a musical I have seen, I could actually feel the music instead of wicked when the overture doesn't even reach the circle lol! Really hope this does well so more inverters will invest in British musicals

I have nothing against jukebox musicals; as a matter of fact, I've been very vocal about my support for Bat out of Hell last year and I've spoken before about the fact that I believe at least part of jukebox musicals' attraction is down to so few new musicals delivering really good music these days. So I'm the last person to be "snobbish" about jukebox musicals. But I still don't like the idea that each successful jukebox musical will just go on to spawn more and more of these instead of helping new writers and composers to develop their talent and bring new stories and music to the stage. Then everyone is moaning again about the number of transfers from Broadway, when the US scene does so much better in developing shows Off-Broadway and outside New York. As much as I loved Bat and as much as I'd love to hear more good rock music on stage, I'd rather have a new Jamie come into London than a jukebox musical. Jamie incidentally being a show that gave lots of new young talent a chance to shine. |

I just remembered the last thing you see at the end of &Juliet, before the lights go out, is a jukebox being pushed to centre stage 😆

Do the theatre operate any form of last minute or day seat policy ?

TodayTix have a £25 offer on 25 shows at the moment, just picked up a ticket for & Juliet in the stalls. It should be £75 so I'm happy with that £50 discount!

Thanks, just grabbed a £25 seat. I was looking to try and see this in Manchester when I'm there to see Mame, but it seems pointless now as the London tickets are much better value.

Not that I’m aware of. The 241 offer at £20/22 is still on for Theatrecard holders. The booking system also shows something called the Three Mobile offer at £19.50 again for card holders but seems to allow purchase if single tickets. No idea if you have to be on the Three network though. Selling badly this. Swathes of empty seats for Friday night and gallery closed. What a shame. It needs some good publicity backed by kickass reviews but I still don’t know when press night is, or if they’re even having one for the Manchester run? |

But that's only a guess because there's a lot more seats taken that night than other nights. Pity the offers you mentioned are only for this week. But I might look again next week and see if they've been extended. |
