If it’s going to Glasgow it’ll definitely be at the SECC (is it even called that anymore?) because the King’s is ATG and Mackintosh tours only really do about a handful of ATG venues and they won’t go to one if a non-ATG venue of a similar size is available. (Not even sure if that’s how it works but it sounds accurate) It's either the Kings or Theatre Royal, I work for them both but the person that told me didn't say which of the two it is, I'll try find out. Probably the King’s then because the Royal is a bit too small for Les Mis I think.

I think it’s a shame that most of the big musicals miss out Glasgow and Aberdeen these days in favour of the Playhouse. But if it’s a month long run of Wicked, Matilda or Billy Elliot, the 3,000 seats will be filled by people from all across Scotland in one theatre as opposed to driving the set through the three cities.

Are the seats ok? My only experience of the Festival was about 10 years ago to see Blood Brothers, and I remember being quite uncomfortable by the end of the show. It's maybe had a re-fit since then (or was maybe just the seats we had), but it's put me off rushing back. They get sore after a while and the legroom isn't great (even in the stalls) but it's okay-ish in the dress circle. I was quite surprised that they didn't do a bag check. But they made me put my bag in the cloakroom because of how little legroom there was. Yes, I thought that was the case regarding the seats/leg room. At over 6ft, sitting through Les Mis (or Miss Saigon) there isn't too appealing, so going to try and catch Les Mis in Manchester.

Leg room at the Palace in Manchester isn’t great, certainly not in the dress and upper circles, not sure about the stalls (it’s many years since I sat in the stalls). I’m not very tall so it rarely affects me, but maybe others can advise on the best seats for taller people .

Palace stalls row AA (front row) has loads between the seat and the pit. BB also has enough space to drive a bus through it. A to D all fine for me at 6’3 and my 6’5” friend can also fit because the seatbacks are curved. Rake starts at about D so forward of that you’re flat. It gets tighter as you go back so I’d go for an aisle.
Dress circle is out of the question for tall people, I can’t even sit down in the most expensive seats.

We're all at it! Still, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.
And you may want to edit your post, TM. I think you've missed an h out.

(Also giggles childishly at BB saying 'gets tighter as you go back....')

On a more sensible note, is there any update if/when ATG card holders priority sale may begin for Manchester. I've just received my first ATG card and was expecting to be inundated with emails about all sorts but nothing at all as yet.

What are the chances of decent seats still being available for the Manchester run buying at Christime time?

Thank you, let’s get back to serious theatre chat and do feel free to hit the “report” button for the online bullying 😬 Ive been in touch with ATG about the Manc presale. Get this... first they told me it was 12th June (a week after the general sale) then when challenged said they don’t know when it is. They lamely asked me if I was signed up to their emails. Yes! I said, but your system doesn’t work. And not just for me, your syst3m doesn’t work for lots of people. Its all gone quiet.

I had the same problem when trying to find out when the Miss Saigon ATG pre-sale was gonna be. Basically they did not know. Which was odd as they were the theatre that was gonna be selling them. I did get an e-mail when it finally happened though so that is at least promising I suppose.

Back to the subject of legroom, if anyone is going to a show at the Edinburgh Playhouse, DO NOT sit in the Rear Balcony if you are above 4”11. I am 6”2 and made the mistake of sitting up there for Wicked the other day.... My knees were so numb and sore after the show I think they needed surgery.
