Wishful thinking but I can imagine Chris Peluso being a good Javert. And since Fat Friends will have finished can we have Jodie have a go as Madame T in the UK now.

Last time they split the talent using London to provide enough leads to make the tour look good and gave the tour a top Valjean on top . You ended up with London having the stronger Eponine, and Thenardiers . But London also keeping a weaker Valjean and all the supposedly star names working up for the concert, , and the tour getting JOJ , plus Earl Carpenter and Katie Hall from London as Javert and Cosette, And its the London Eponine and the tour Cosette who get the roles for the concert. I know this is going off topic, but wasn't Katie Hall a last minute addition to the concert? Camilla Kerslake was originally billed to play Cosette in the concert, and went into the West End production in the run-up. But I think just a few days before the concert, it was announced that Katie would play the role. I have no idea if Camilla was ill, or just not up to it - or if they realised they needed a stronger Cosette to help carry Nick Jonas (but that's pure speculation on my part). Going back to the topic, the Les Mis tours all have a history of using Valjeans and/or Javerts from the London production to at least open the tours. Jeff Leyton was completely new as Valjean for the first tour in 1992, but they brought in Philip Quast as Javert (and Meredith Braun as Eponine) to open in Manchester. And for the second tour in 1997 they had Stig Rossen and Michael McCarthy open as Valjean and Javert respectively. During the entire run of that tour (from 1997 until 2000), all the Valjeans had played the role before in London - John Owen Jones, Jeff Leyton, Phil Cavill, and Colm Wilkinson. |

She was variously reported as indisposed, or singing in a different key to wot was written ........... Katie Hall was always going to be a far stronger choice. And whether they wanted a weak Cosette to go with, a timid Jonas, Marius, or a strong one to carry him, you needed an equally strong Cosette, to sing alongside a splendid miss Barks. They have relied on proven people to tour . But they left the London Valjean in place, for our sins, in 2010 and took JOJ on tour. The last phantom tour showed what they could do if they prioritised to get the best tour they could - it went out with JOJ, Earl Carpenter, Katie Hall, and a strong Christine understudy too. |

I think Willemijn Verkaik would be a great Fantine but she’s busy with Ghost at the minute, and if there’s anywhere she’d do it it would be the West End.

It isn't officially announced but it's booked a month run in Glasgow in 2020 so it should have quite a few more! That's good to hear, as a lot of the bigger shows often miss Glasgow out when touring. Les Mis only ever played Edinburgh as part of it's previous three tours; as did the recent tour of Miss Saigon (although it did do Glasgow in 2004). And so far Matilda and Wicked (the current tour) haven't announced any Glasgow dates. Given that Miss Saigon and Wicked have both played the Kings Theatre in the past, surely it can't be a question of theatre size. Perhaps it's due to Glasgow's proximity to Edinburgh - ie, they figure people will travel the 45 miles to see the bigger named shows there? So, any idea if it will play the Kings? Or the Clyde Auditorium, as Mamma Mia and Hairspray have in the past? |

I was going to say that she would possibly be the oldest actress to play Fantine, but I've absolutely nothing to back that up. Anyone know who the oldest Fantine has been? |

I’d agree that Willemijn would be a great Fantine. Out of all the London Elphabas she’s the one that screams Fantine most to me. Molly in Ghost is a lot younger than 44 too I believe?

That's a good point about Elphaba being a college student, and Molly in Ghost must be around the same age as Fantine (I think Fantine is 28 when she dies). I'm sure Willemijn would be able to pull Fantine off, but just think if she wanted to play the role, she would have done it by now. At 44 it would be a bit of unusual casting, so would probably only happen if the producers/her really wanted it to. |

They get sore after a while and the legroom isn't great (even in the stalls) but it's okay-ish in the dress circle. I was quite surprised that they didn't do a bag check. But they made me put my bag in the cloakroom because of how little legroom there was. |
