Very tempted to make the trip to Manchester for this - I do love Van Hove’s productions and past productions of this have had most of the cast from the wonderful Roman Tragedies - the subject matter really isn’t that appealing and there are a couple of poor reviews. By any chance has anyone seen it on the continent or New York?

Ayn Rand - proponent of one the most dangerous political ideologies out there.

People I trust have not had polite things to say about this one. Also I haven't entirely forgiven Ivo for one of the most tedious theatrical experiences I've ever had. I'll watch the thread with interest but rather you lot than me when it comes to actually seeing it!

£35 top price, so worth taking a chance. The source material creates a lot of the negativity but, frankly, I’ll be happier if I find it as risible as others have done. How it’s done is more interesting to me.

Re:Creating Europe last night was excellent - managed to create compelling theatre from a patchwork of quotes from politicians, writers and thinkers telling the story of why the EU was formed and why (maybe) it lost its way. Relatively even handed although coming firmly on the pro-EU side of the argument. The piece has been done elsewhere but had been reworked for this, including stuff as recent as Widdecombe’s “slaves” speech from the other week (delivered here by Adjoa Andoh
Cast was a mix of ITA ensemble and UK guest performers - Andoh, Juliet Stevenson, Lemn Sissay, Michael Morpugo and Chris Eccleston (who for those keeping count listed Doctor Who in his programme credits)

So I made it through the 4 hours 15 minutes of "The Fountainhead" unscathed - great production (although nothing to surprise anyone familiar with Van Hove's usual box of tricks) and as one of the reviews said you wish these resources had been devoted to more worthwhile subject matter.
I know Rand is somewhat unsavoury as a guru of the right, I didn't feel though that this production sympathised with her view (or that of the lead character). There are also some very unpleasant sexual politics. Worth a look if it comes to London and you have half a day to spare.
Interested to note it had sold pretty badly - stalls were about 2/3 full and it looked like the upper circle was closed. Suspect the same show would have sold out the Barbican for the same length of run, at double the ticket prices!
Anyway glad I made the trip up North for the festival, enjoyed the mix of theatre and art. And very easy to get around the various venues on foot or by Metrolink. Only thing that annoyed me was the £2 transaction charge for everything, even if you were buying tickets for exhibitions in person. (incidentally "Atmospheric Memory" is well worth the £10 if you are in the area).
And the Lowry is a great theatre with SO MANY TOILETS!!
