Don't think the theatre has been announced yet, but reported last week in several newspapers that Pretty Woman will open in London sometime next year.

It'll be Samantha from what I've heard, and they're trying to get both Andy and Orfeh on board too, because they come as a package deal naturally. 😂

I imagine Sam Barks will have first refusal on it at least, and probably will transfer. I hope she does as I missed her in New York (she called out ill) and she would be the only reason for me to see this again!
I'd be perfectly happy if she didn't bring Andy Karl or Orfeh with her though!

I'd love to see those three. I loved Sam and Andy in TL5Y and Groundhog Day. Never seen Orfeh live but I really enjoyed her in the filmed performance of Legally Blonde.

Hmm, cant help thinking if its going into one of the bigger theatres they will need a name as the male lead, no offence to Karl but to all intents and purposes he is an unknown here.

I saw it in New York recently and Andy Karl is very good in this, don't underestimate him. He brings a lot to an under-characterized role and would not be easy to replace. The guy no one is mentioning is Eric Anderson who is actually third billed, before Orfeh, and who is terrific in a double role. But as long as Barks is in it the show will do well - she's an absolute powerhouse and totally irresistable.

I mean, the Aldwych is likely to have Tina for a while which is the only other N theatre. Adelphi would make sense, depending on Waitress’ success.

I hope this does not come here. I saw it in New York over the summer and was by far the worst thing I saw. It's abysmal and Sam Barks is the single redeeming quality.
I actually saw it for free with comp tickets, and usually free tickets make me end up liking things!

I saw it last summer and for me personally it was easily the weakest and most disappointing of all the musicals I saw. It wasn’t particularly well received critically either, but I guess some shows are critic proof and it will probably do well on name alone over here, at least initially. I thought the music was passable and nothing more, but the set felt like they had zero budget 😄 and they basically just recreated the script word for word, and so the big film moments just felt like poor imitations. I like Samantha Barks but I also felt like she way overdid it with the acting and so her Vivian just felt like a caricature. |

Oh, and don't worry, season tickets for London are being organised as we speak... under assumed names, naturally (we are both Mr B. Bear, if anyone asks). I believe we've both agreed on Ms Barks's virtues on a couple of occasions, TM, the last being The Last Five Years. All I can say is wait until you see her in this! |

It isn't a good musical, but everyone knows the film so it will sell, especially to the hen party crowd, in the same way as Legally Blonde did. That is the advantage it has over Waitress, even though it will get a mixed at best critical reception.

I thought she was good don’t get me wrong but it was just a bit too OTT for me. I’m definitely someone who leans towards preferring the understated rather than overstated though, given the choice! |

Having seen this in New York last night I can see it doing very well in London! The Nederlander theatre feels quite intimate, and it’s not a “big” show in some senses, so I think for London they’d be wise to take somewhere like the Piccadilly or Savoy rather than the Adelphi or anywhere bigger.

It'll do well in London..London audiences love absurd hyper-American musicals more than Americans do. 9 to 5, Grease, Hairspray, Legally Blonde..this will fit right in and run for a while because it looks dirt cheap.
