Ain't there usually a king and sometimes a queen as well. Unles the Lord chamberlain replaces him, I imagine the step sisters will be played by females so the French and Saunders remours could be true. Cinderella will be played I imagine by someone no older than 30. French & Saunders would be amazing and would definitely pull in the audience alongside Paul o Grady!! I then think someone like Joan Collins would be great as the fairy god mother and then an American as Cinderella. They've done all the male roles then they'll do the females. |

Please Be realistic There has been a (slight) blurring recently with failed pop stars like Beverly Knight, Alexandra Burke and Nicole Scherzinger moving to stage theatre as their international music careers were ailing and restricted by their overall lack of suitability and talent as mega stars in the first instance The Madonnas and Beyonce of this world as quite another matter At least two of those "failures" could carve a new career or, in the case of Beverley, have already begun carving sustainable new careers in musical theatre. It is not a case of them failing, it is a case of them stretching their talents.
Plus Beverley has had 6 Top 20 Albums, so she is hardly doing too bad for herself. Nicole, in her solo career alone, has had 2 Top 20 Albums and a Number 1 single. Alexandra has had 2 Top 20 Albums and 3 Number 1 singles. So none of them have had massive failures career wise, and if they want to cast out musical theatre careers alongside it, why not?
Also not forgetting, between them, two Olivier nominations (one of which was for about 10 minutes of stage time)

Exactly! I think if you asked people who those 3 people are then people would know. They haven't failed! Like Daniel said, they've all had brilliant singles and brilliant music careers. Beverley has become known for her singles and her theatre work now, not to mention having an MBE All credit to her I loved Beverley Knight right from her first album But despite acclaim she never found commercial international success as a pop star I am pleased she has made a role in in musical theatre as she was excellent in Memphis It was a good career move for her |

Then, Russell Brand as Baron Hardon.

I like the idea of Saunders and Lumley as the Uglies. Or David Walliams and Matt Lucas.
Perhaps Pixie Lott as Cinders. Or a West End actress like Danielle Hope (who has done panto before)? Another name that popped into my head was Sam Barks.
Babs Windsor as Fairy Godmother? She's a link to the last Palladium panto and has been in EastEnders again recently. Though Amanda Holden does sound plausible.

I imagine Cinderella will be played by a strong singer because her and the prince will probably sing a duet and it be unfair on her to sound considerably worse than Lee Mead.
Cant see Babs as the fair godmother. Her Eastenders scenes were filmed over a longer than normal period to accommodate her age and also her poor memory. Cant see her therefore being capable of 12+ shows a week.
Is the Stepping Out tour finished by December?
Cant see the sisters in drag as well.

I'm sorry everyone but this cast isn't good enough end of. We have seen Hollywood actors grace the panto stage in the past few years and none in this? Why should we bother then? David Hasslehoff to Pamela Anderson but not in this? Very odd..
The performers are great of course, but most of us have seen them all before and paid half the price!!

Love how people are talking about how unimpressive the cast is, like this is everything and not one single other cast member is yet to be announced, and like most pantomimes don't have just the one major name, maybe a couple of local favourites, and the rest of the cast made up of jobbing actors/dancers. XD

Seriously... Do the kiddies even care who's in it? As long as it's bright, loud, someone with a boat/string of washing/bowl of fruit on their head throws sweets at them, invites them onto the stage to sing a song they've never heard of, then all's well, isn't it? Oh, and a puff of smoke comes up somewhere. And they can eat as much popcorn as they want, talk all the way through it, and get up to go out and reappear whenever they like.
(Just realized this sounds like a typical West End audience for quite a few shows actually...)

Hence the dirty jokes and pop tunes. And the parents will want a name to justify the price, when we can all go locally to a panto that is a lot cheaper. |

I think casting defiantly helps as the prices are west end prices to get people to come to their panto in London and not a local one |

By the time you factor travel to an out of town show on top of ticket prices which, even regionally, are in the £40-60 bracket at the larger venues, there's not much to choose between them on an attendance cost basis... but a lot in terms of show budget and that can make a huge difference to the end product!
Personally, I booked a ticket for this as soon as it was announced - just the concept of panto back at the Palladium was enough to draw me in. Now I know who's in it, I may well book again!

I've been going to the Wimbledon panto every year since I was little. They are very good I must admit. However, we wanted a change this year so we're going to the palladium one. We did say though, if the cast for Wimbledon is HUGE then we'll get cheap tickets for it. They never announce their cast until like October though. Didn't enjoy their Peter Pan last year though but I didn't like the story or the cast |
