Those are not has beens, Amanda holden aside they all have proven panto experience and while people like to mock panto is an art form that not everyone can pull off. This is much better than some american celeb who doesn't 'get it' Lee Mead?! What about him? He has a decent fan Base, is a west end leading man and yes is good at panto having seen him in a couple

Absolutely Bear! Would you like a hosiery lesson? I hope I'm not being presumptive in thinking that tights that would fit a 9 year old girl would not fit you? So they are specialist in that the costume department would not be allowed to fit them on a child, as they would a costume. They leave that to their mothers! You know lots about this stuff. ... are you a "Dance Mom"? Omg are you Sylvia Young? LOL! Busted!

Lee Mead has been a regular on Casualty for quite some time - currently taking a break. So I don't think he's a hasbeen.

I mentioned on the thread about that XFactor reject not learning her lines, so I won't bang on, but panto (despite you non-believers!) is most children's first experience of both attending theatre and performing in a show with professionals, so serves an important purpose in educating our young. And I have also watched the American programme you mention with my jaw on the floor. *shudders* I consider it child abuse.

The sets were 'simple but effective' ? I thought they were selling this as some kind of spectacular . 3 hours though! Yikes. It's a 5 week run, the sets are what I'd expect for a top-end panto - the money goes into the cast, the effects and the costumes which is what you spend most of your time looking at. Unless you're a student of set design perhaps. But yes, 3 hours! Yikes indeed.

Saw this last night and wanted to add my thoughts!
It's fantastically cast, ok Amanda isn't the best but I didn't think she was awful.
Ye sets are a lot simpler than I expected! The three Wow moments (opening act 1, closing act 1 and opening act 2) are WOW but otherwise it relies on the costumes for the glitz and glamour!
The songs were good, love changes everything was one of the best moments for me, had me and those around me I'm stitches! Very funny!! Brilliantly performed by Natasha, Lee and Paul.
I liked the funny girl reference!!
The orchestra sounded brilliant, very "punchy"
The sisters are great but with hardly any stage time!
Julian Clareys first song! "When you are lonely you can always go, Soho!" Was a real crowd pleaser and it was when the show really got going. There was a lot of pissing about up to then.
Theee hours is long for children but it went very quickly! Love the Salvation Army type song performed by Paul and the sisters towards the end.
really good night out, no lavish sets but a great cast, great costumes, three great wow moments and a lot of laughs!!

Thanks so much for this!! Sounds great!! What's the opening song like? Isn't it Argyll Street? So shocked that the sets are that grand, I was expecting them to be huge! Also, do The Twins FX special effects look good?? Cast sound great! I had a feeling the sisters wouldn't get much stage time judging by them it being names. Also had a sneaky feeling there would be a reference to Funny Girl and Natasha!! Seeing a few days after Christmas!! Can't wait! Hope they announce next years panto soon too!

The opening is a song sung solo by Amanda while flying. Argyll street is second song

Also nice speech at start. I think he said he was one of the producers. Just stating that although they had a matineee this was first evening performance of panto in palladium for almost 30 years

Lee Mead has been doing panto since 2012, so he's hardly a newbie either. And on the work front generally he was in Casualty from 2014, which films a big portion of the year so he's hardly been sitting at home in his pants!
And he's pretty and he can sing and act so I'll settle for that as a Panto prince!

Did I miss a Funny Girl reference? Where was it? During act two when Cinderella and the puppet (Sam?) were on the bench in the forest. Sam said to Cinderella "oh you are a funny girl"

Well they all look amazing, I wish Amanda had more of a big fairytale style dress than the one she still looks great, Paul looks fierce! Also, are we calling Natasha by her inital name Natasha J Barnes or are we calling her Natasha Barnes? I kinda liked calling her Natasha J Banres, makes her more individual.

I can't be the only one wondering where Julian Clary got that outfit and whether I could order it in time for my Christmas party . . . ?

QDos have such a clever business model really. I know the panto season is short these days, but all the fixed costs of sets and costumes can be spread over several (many) seasons in various cities around the country. This Palladium show (if it new and I believe it is) will appear next year in Birmingham or Bristol along with other celebs in the costumes. The sets (if they are "simple but effective") will have been designed to into other theatres around the country and not tailor made for the Palladium.
I go to pantos quite regularly and have seen the same sets and costumes for years!
