Advance train tickets are available, usually £5 or £8.50 each way but can sell out and may not be available if there is engineering work. When they go on sale for Saturdays can be a bit variable due to late notification to the train company of engineering work. Currently on sale up to dates, according to the National Rail web site ( www.nationalrail.co.uk/times_fares/ticket_types/44703.aspx ), are Saturday service: 22 June Monday to Friday service: 2 August |

Stay well clear of Katie Mitchell and Wagner!
I would also give a wide birth to tacky celebrity casting. Go for something that looks 'well made'.Chichester and Bath spring to mind as good choices

Just happened to have a business trip in Chichester this week and bought a row C ticket for £37. Off peak return train tickets were £43 from London.
Enjoyed the act one, particularly the dance scenes. There's even a xxx (sorry, I don't know how to do the spoiler thing) towards the end of act one.

This is OK but it ain't that special either.
It's nicely staged but the youthful, fairly inexperienced cast let it down for me. Hyoie O' Grady as Curly was weak dramatically and his bland voice doesn't have the top end to give his songs the necessary heft. Amara Okereke was better as Laurey, certainly vocally so, but her scenes with Curly lack any sort of emotional frisson and by the end you don't give a toss whether they get together or not.
Most of the smaller parts were equally lacking in sparkle except for Emmanuel Kojo as Jud Fry. I normally find this one of the most tiresome roles in music theatre but he, for once, made the part believable and he had great charisma.
Josie Lawrence, the one really experienced actor, also seemed to get the enervation bug and gave a totally unmemorable performance.
The choreography was lack lustre and the act one ballet was a let down - the chaps wearing the ugliest chaps I've ever seen.
With such a young cast you'd expect this to have great sparkle and pizzazz but that was totally lacking in yesterday's matinee.

I wasn’t going to see this but I’ve had 3 friends all see it this week and say I HAVE to make the trip to see it as the younger cast give it a whole new energy and the staging is brilliant. |

Saw this tonight and really enjoyed it. It sounds absolutely glorious. I didn’t get a programme but it sounded like a very full orchestra and the orchestrations are just wonderful.
Great choreography and some great performances. Particularly Emanuel Kojo (??!) as Jud and a delightful Bronté Barbé as Ado Annie.
I found it had way more heart than I’ve seen before and it was genuinely moving at times. A lovely surprise

I’m in the ‘this Was okay but not special’ camp.
It’s very traditional in its staging, which is what the elderly audience of Chichester wanted, and they had a lovely time.
Lovely to see a full orchestra, some really great choreography, and some great performances (particularly Amara Okereke and Emmanuel Kojo).
Thought Jodie Lawrence was terrible though - she just looked bored and like she didn’t want to be there.
It’s fine, but I’m excited to see the Circle in the Square production if that comes over. It felt like a slightly missed opportunity to do something a little inventive, but it’s a good production of a traditional staging

Finally saw this last night, also my first ever trip to a Chichester Festival show. I think it says something about the demographic when I was deciding if the majority of the audience could remember the original production of Oklahoma! I also didn't spot any non-white people in the city or the audience, apart from those on stage (in fact, the elderly gentleman next to me actually said out loud "She's black" when Amara Okereke entered for the first time, then spent most of the show reading his programme multiple times (pretty obvious in the front row).
The £10 side Stalls front row seat was a bargain for the close up views. The theatre looked about 90% full.
As others have said, this generally used a young and inexperienced cast. Good to see Isaac Gryn getting a lead role as Will Parker, having seen him in a lead role at Arts Ed only months ago. His rope work was good. And Emmanuel Kojo was excellent as Jud.
The highlight was probably the dream ballet at the end of Act One. The lowlight was the exceptionally loud gunshots, much louder than the ones in the Off Broadway production, One woman took her children out right past the front of the stage soon after. And even knowing when they were coming, I couldn't stop myself shaking.
Perfectly serviceable anyway and in a nice theatre. I'd say this has a slim chance of a London transfer, but it hasn't really got a buzz behind it.

Dr Tom normally Chi's musicals get a lot of traffic on this board but not years. I think in generally we are bit disappointed with Evan's programming for the venue after his golden years in Sheffield. Hopefully next year will be more exciting. I've heard rumours of Night Music or Merrily. So I suspect we'll get Gigi!!!

The run at The Crucible in 2012-2013 under Daniel Evans was a huge commercial and critical hit. |
