You forget that Mr B is the authority all things theatrical, that his way is the only way and that any discourse in contravention of this will not be tolerated. Thats why I no longer engage.
(and it was literally ten minutes before curtain up with large blocks of stalls & circle seats unsold).

You can’t have it both ways… though people love the inside info that he provides.

Saw this again from the Can Can Seats (A1 and A2) last night and wow - whilst maybe not the ideal seats if you haven't seen the show before I personally LOVED these seats - talk about an immersive experience - and the new cast are on fire - full of energy & clearly having the time of their lives.
Sure the book is a little flawed but it's a spectacle and such a fun show. Great chemistry between Jamie and Tanisha too, and they both sing very well. Jamie reminds me of a young Hugh Grant strangely! Nice to see Ben Richards back in the West End as hadn't seen him since Priscilla days and with Matt Rixon, Ian Carlye and Elia Lo Tauro all knocking it out of the park there isn't a single weak link here - for me this cast is the best I've seen (and I include Broadway).
Also sitting that close you tend to be able to see when a cast is bored, not quite "on" or going through the motions - not a bit of it here - the supporting actors and ensemble were superb and again sitting that close you appreciate how complex/intricate some of the big ensemble numbers are. Genuinely amazing stage craft from start to finish.
As you can probably tell I'm a fan!
On another note though - the drinks prices at The Piccadilly - MY GOD!! I vaguely remember they were expensive from Strictly Ballroom days but they are now off the chart. If you are going to drink I actually think it would be better value to buy one of their all inclusive tickets. Mind you the place was full and the bar doing great business so I guess they are making hay whilst the sun is still shining for them - this must be the number 1 tourist show in town?

Got very good seats yesterday at the boxoffice. First balcony row 5 for £75. So going there is worthwhile. Hated the show unfortunately. After seeing Band’s Visit, Cabaret and Tammy Faye this week, this seemed totally bland, empty and irritating as hell. Never a fan of the movie, I should have trusted my instincts. But well….The rowdy Xmas party crowd seems to love it….

Hated it. Not keen on the film either, but thought it was one to tick off my list especially after Jamie Muscato joined the cast. The abrupt change between the moody (Cabaret- style) pre-show atmosphere and the cheesiness was unexpected. I can stomach &Juliet, but Moulin Rouge was too much / too irritating for me and I did not care an ounce for Satine/Christian. I saw Melissa and Jamie. (Shut up and dance??) Though I wouldn't want to cross swords with him in real life, the Duke made for a more entertaining character.
I've never walked out before, not even for Jack the Ripper at the Coliseum. That's not yet been broken, but I did my first ever toilet break mid-show - not because I needed it, but because I had done enough eye rolls or staring at the sides to distract myself from the stage. I thought I wouldn't miss much and I was right.
I also didn't realise standing tickets were available. I went to the show solo and kept having someone trying to nick my seat (I arrived >15 mins before the show).
On a more positive note, I did enjoy a bit of Lady Gaga and Roxanne. The latter was the reason I held out hope and stayed during the interval (and admittedly, the cost of the ticket).

I also know the soundtrack inside out, and I've heard some of the cast recording. I found the tinkering around with the Elephant Love Medley very jarring!! (and I hate myself for saying this as I eyeroll at people who don't like it when the stage production of Grease or The Sound Of Music isn't a carbon copy (score-wise) of the films!!)

I overheard a glowing review of this show from a gaggle of over-enthusiastic theatre students, loudly crowning it their 'favourite show ever'. So I assume it must have improved since I saw it..!

I'm a huge fan of the film as well, and for me it was a massive disappointment on stage. Yes it looks stunning, production values are through the roof, and the ensemble are incredible, but it's all window dressing. All of the heart, artistry and tragic romance of the film is gone, it's just a shallow jukebox show. The changes to the music were also unforgiveable in my eyes, dropping Randy Crawford and Queen which thematically fit so well before, to have them replaced by Adele and Sia for no reason other than they're popular....each to their own and I know a lot of people have found it brilliantly entertaining, but for me, it didn't work.

Im not a fan of the Piccadilly Theatre and thought this show would not fit well there. It's a production, but works better in a smaller space. Well, I have grown to love it at this venue. May history with the show goes back to Boston, where the history of the Colonial Theatre overshadowed the performance, but the shear exuberance was addictive enough that I bough tickets at the evening show. The Broadway home, while not a large theatre, it's difficult to enough the performances if you sit far back in the mezzanine. The thrill is to be in the action. At another performance in the orchestra I found my sweet spot. The performers were running around engaging the audience. Or maybe it was just me as Zidler leaned over my seat to kiss me on the cheek. (That was before March 2020). This year I've seen Moulin Rouge an additional 4 times with different casts. My favorite was in London during the final week of the original cast members and I sat in the first row of the circle. Brilliant seat. The physical production is almost the same as Broadway. Although after the pandemic the pre-show is truncated. That was a bit disappointing. The dancers were perfection and the lighting electrifying every move.
The natural delivery of Jamie is starkly different then Aaron or Derek. Jamie is a dream and hope to see him again real soon. Karen Olivo was all I knew until Ashley Loren took over and then Oyoyo Loi. We're lucky to have had Liisi LaFontaine, although better for me in Dreamgirls, she was a joy to observe. I can't say enough about Danny Burstein, as he kissed me in a Broadway theatre and I like it, but Clive Carter, wonderful in CFA, was perfection as Harold Zidler.
I was disappointed that Moulin Rouge did not get more award recognition with the London production, but I believe it will be at the Piccadilly entertaining for years to come.

Adele and Sia songs don't belong in it!! It's not just a jukebox musical - it's a score (of sorts) that was firmly defined and been established for over 20 years ago now!

It sounds like it's lacking the artistry needed for the Oliviers etc to recognise it as a piece of theatre. I saw the new cast last week and the leads are all much better than the originals imo. The problem with this show is the cheesy direction. I know Jamie Muscato is a fabulous actor and singer, the best, yet at times (albeit not as much as the original Christian!) jamie M was so cringeworthy in the show. The script, the direction of Christian and Satine is the problem, not the cast. It’s just soooooooo hammy in parts, which ruins any credibility about depth of feelings we might have had for the characters otherwise. We saw the understudy Duke who was good but not convincing evil, seemed a bit too nice. The new Zeidler was amazing. The ensemble, the dancing, the staging, the costumes all spot on, sound was too quiet for the speaking parts, but too loud for the ensemble numbers. Just loose the hammy cheesy direction of Christian and Satine and it would be a much more likeable show.
