I’ve heard from someone working on it that they are going to really enforce this, and are having many other producers etc keen to know how it works as they have wanted to do it, but haven’t been brave enough. Good for them I say. About time someone took a proper stand that is a clear sign that it’s a small price to pay for protecting the industry, and audiences. They did not. I have to say it is tricky with the long rows in the upper circle now the middle aisle has gone but I didn’t see anyone being reminded. Yes I eat my words. I had a friend watch it tonight and they said that a LOT of people weren’t wearing masks. Really depressing.

I was there tonight and they didn't enforce it at all, they just asked you to keep your mask on all the time when they checked your ticket. Maybe 50/50 mixture of masked and non-masked people. Really enjoyed the show, best to just asorb the spectacle without comparing it to the film. The set was incredible. What's the theatre like? I assume it's been given a spruce up given it's been 19 months since it was last open. I don't really remember what it was like before tbh but they've decorated it to make it look like you're in the Moulin Rouge - Red velvet over all the walls and strings of lights hanging from the walls. Lots of merch, but pretty expensive, my friend looked at a magnet and it was £10! The (very cheap looking) facemask was £15! We were at the back of the upper circle and I felt like we had a great view for £29. We went down to the stalls to look more closely at the set in the interval and it looked like the overhang of the circle blocked a lot of the stage for people in the back half of the stalls. We agreed we'd rather have our seats in the UC. If you're picking between the circle and back stalls I'd definitely go for the circle, the set is the best thing about the show, you want to see it all.

Stunning auditorium and set. Great set pieces. Great vocals. All let down by two leads with no charisma or chemistry (him especially). Know it's a first preview but...disappointed. Absolutely no enforcement of masks either - The Stage article is all for show Chemistry is sometimes instant but other times it can build up during the course of the run, so that might not be an issue going forward. Of course Charisma is just there or it isn't, but to be fair it was the first preview so you don't know how much nerves played a part in their performances and had an impact on how they came across.

When does merchandise usually become available online? I want to get stuff for Christmas.

Just Google Piccadilly theatre to see what it was like before. It looks like a pretty incredible (and expensive) transformation. I’m going tonight and cannot bloody wait.

Wasn't last night classed as a dress rehearsal rather than a preview? I say this because AJ Casey put on her Instagram yesterday that she was heading into town for the "first dress rehearsal". I walked past last night on my way to the ENO and saw what looked like a large group of students (MT students maybe) waiting outside to go in. The outside of the theatre looks great. Nothing to say its the Playhouse Theatre, just a subtle Kit Kat Club sign over the main entrance. The glass on the entrance doors is blacked out and there are no cast posters or, in fact, anything saying Cabaret. It looks like a discrete club which, I am guessing, is what they are aiming at. Wrong thread I think alece10!

I hear you, but it's either their or its not. And they didn't seem to give a monkeys about each other really. Of all the people who could have done these roles, they both seem...bizarre choices to me.

Well this was sensational last night.
First off- it looks STUNNING. They have clearly spent an absolute fortune abs the Piccadilly is totally transformed. The lighting- incredible. The choreography, even better than I’d remembered from NYC. The ensemble absolutely killing it, Clive Carter is a brilliant Zidler and Sophie Carmen Jones utterly sensational as Nini.
I liked Liisi way more than I expected- she sang well and was a definite improvement on Karen Olivio. Jamie Bogyo was rather wooden and his voice not a patch on Aaron Tveitt, but he had gangly charm and I thought he was moving at the end.
London is going to blown away by this, and all design awards at the Olivier Awards are absolutely in the bag. Also Choreography.
A shame that the much trumpeted mask mandate didn’t seem to be having much effect. So many people not wearing them, but I guess it was better than at every other show I’ve been to.

The email I got when I booked my Cabaret tickets made very clear proof of Covid status was required. That was the phrase used. Taking a test and providing a test result is proving Covid status, so well within what ATG warned you would be needed when you booked. Nothing has changed, all they have done is now explain what precisely is required. If your friend is refusing to do something as simple as take a test that takes two minutes then frankly I don't think they deserve a credit voucher, let alone a refund! Utterly ridiculous to refuse to do something so simple and that benefits themselves and others. Proof of Covid status has always been taken everywhere else as including vaccination or testing. No where else has ever used it only for testing. Yes, it would make perfect sense that the term ‘Covid status’ does not mean ‘whether or not you have Covid in your system and could spread it to everyone around you in a theatre you are about to enter, including Eddie Redmayne’ and in fact means whatever you thought it meant when you booked your tickets.

Can someone clarify the mask situation for me. ATG have messaged to say wear masks on way in but free to take off when seated, however this isn’t what the article says and I can’t find anything on the musicals website to clarify what has been said elsewhere.
So do I have to wear my mask throughout the performance or not, asking as I wouldn’t be able to see the show if I did due to foggy glasses!!
Cheers all

Cheers all The email I received before Saturday's performance said that "To protect our cast, theatre staff and audience, face coverings are mandatory whilst visiting the Piccadilly Theatre. When seated in the auditorium you may remove your face covering to enjoy food and drinks." There were frequent pre-recorded announcements before the show about keeping face coverings on unless eating and drinking.

Taking your mask off and spreading your particles to the people next to you isn’t the solution.

Firstly: I’m not saying this is my solution, I’m visually impaired so most mask/glasses combo I have tried makes it incredibly difficult for me to see, hence the question, it’s not about a refusal to wear a mask so please don’t assume that about me. I’ve not had covid at all, I work in health and social care and would not put others at risk. I’ll have a look at the fog spray.

I am going tonight and shall let you know what they say.
Though not being funny but after the last 18 months, have you not yet managed to find a way to make your glasses work with a masks? Because I wear glasses and manage to wear them throughout whole shows without fogging them up. It took a bit of time to find the right hack to do it when masks were first introduced, but if it helps, I find masks that have a way to really clip them close to your nose the easiest, so either the thin metal strip in the medical/FFP2 ones or fabric ones that have a 'pipecleaner thingie' pocket sewn in tend to work the best. And strangely having the mask fairly high up, so the bottom of the glasses is actually over the mask seems to help, don't ask me why. LOL Also there are sprays and wipes you can get to use on your glasses that stop them from fogging up. Doesn't last for whole days for me but definitely a few hours when I tried them? But I don't bother with them anymore to be honest, as I managed to figure out how to wear the masks to stop it from fogging me up, unless it's super freezing outside. Ignore me if you know all this, but thought I'd put in what I use in case it helps ya when you see the show or in general with foggy glasses. :-)

If you can let me know how they manage it tonight, just for peace of mind so I know what to expect that would be super helpful.

Cheers all I'd buy a FPP3 mask (I get them without but also available with a vent) from eBay. 3M make them. Basically, FPP3 seals your mouth far better so you don't get breath escaping and steaming up your glasses. Most masks protect others from you rather than the other way around, but these are much thicker and will actually stop you breathing in more of the air that can give you Covid, which is a nice bonus.

Or don’t wear a mask. The sad truth is that tons of people didn’t bother when I saw it, even after being told masks must be worn and an announcement before the show started. It’s depressing. People just do not care.

My first show I saw in person was Carousel and kept steaming up. Frozen, I wore contacts but still not 100%. Was losing the will. I want to wear a mask. But I want to see…. Then this … So No Fog Lens Cleaning Glasses Wipes Get them from Specsavers but I had to stick up from Amazon. Game changer. Honestly helps so much! You’re welcome

I find the booth masks with a wire over the nose also really help stop me steaming up - but not 100%. The other thing I find helps is washing your glasses lenses in hot soapy water, letting them dry naturally and then polishing with a micro fibre cloth.
