But there were a larger number of less expensive seats available, which Moulin Rouge isn't offering. They might have two blinding leads lined up, but if there are two West End performers up there (rather than 'names'), then someone needs to justify those prices. 'A nice-looking set' doesn't cut it I'm afraid. A giant elephant and two big names floating across a Parisian sky, then maybe I'll buy into it. FWIW I’m not trying to justify the prices, just pointing out that this isn’t the first time ATG have set ridiculous premiums. Oh god yes... and it won't be the last! 🤣 |

I think I've been very lucky here. I was away Monday to Wednesday but just booked a row C stalls seat recommended by "TM" for £89.50 for the first Monday performance. The next seat in from mine costs an eye-watering £184.50 for a Blue Elephant Package. I'll happily miss out on the SIX glasses of champagne. Why six I wonder; seems excessive ? It has pre-booked incredibly well. The first two previews and both Saturday matinees in November are already sold out and only single seats remain for many early performances. Six glasses of champagne is a full bottle - surely that shouldn’t be right as it’s actively encouraging binge drinking?! |

Except most shows aren’t Moulin Rouge! If they tried charging that for Be More Chill/Heathers they’d not sell anything. I am just thinking the price divided into two for both acts. And I haven't seen theatre in person since the 6th March 2020... SOOOO. Update. I didn’t. Plus I may be taking someone else now and I’ve been treating myself too much this month. I don’t rate the Picc at all as a theatre. I honestly don’t think they can justify charging full whack for seats which have the overhang? This show is so set heavy too. I hope discounts kick in at some point. |

Unfortunately I think that for every person negatively affected by Covid financially, there are many who have had nothing to spend their money on for months on end so jump at the chance of such an event production. The pricing does seem obscene for such a terrible theatre. £89.50 to be facing a wall in the stalls is just awful.

There is a lot of love out there for the film, which has such a theatrical vibe to it and it always felt like it was born for the stage. But it has been 20 years since that came out so I'm surprised it's as popular as it seems to be at the moment.

Do people really love Moulin Rouge that much? Nope. Saw the film once, thought it was nice enough but pretty forgettable. Not interested in the musical version. Certainly not for those prices! |

The first time I watched it, I feel asleep halfway through. A friend was having a "Red Curtain Trilogy" birthday party, so we'd already watched Strictly Ballroom and Romeo and Juliet and had quite a lot of wine. Do people really love Moulin Rouge that much? I'll echo what others said: It always felt very theatrical as such and more importantly, it feels like it could be a great spectacle. And that's what I'm starved for, personally. I can appreciate the cleverness of Hamilton, I have been very moved by Come From Away, I adore Six to pieces, but let's face it, so many of these new shows are done extremely cheaply with hardly more than a few chairs and a table for stage sets. Even shows that looked like they could have been spectacles, like Prince of Egypt, turned out to be duds in that aspect. So yes, I'm willing to sink way more money into Moulin Rouge than in most other new shows, because I am very certain that it will have some mind-blowing show numbers, something to enjoy and savour with all senses. And when I know where my money has gone (sets, costumes, etc.) then I also feel better about spending it than merely to line some producer's pockets. |

To balance this out, I absolutely adore the film and would say it's rather unforgettable. It was also a very welcome gift following the utter dreck of the summer movie season of 2001. And, lest we forget, it kicked off the post Tom "Kidman-naissance"! Won't buy a ticket for the show though cos I's got the DVD. |

I think this is one of the few shows where you can actually see where every penny has been spent.
After a year of no theatre.. TAKE MY MONEY.

Didn’t like the film but adored the stage musical. It’s so theatrical. Admittedly, I had never watched the movie but caught the show during it's out of town tryout in Boston and was floored by it. I've heard people say the book is messy and a little unfocused but I honestly didn't care - it was thrilling and like you said, so theatrical. I can see this being huge with a tourist audience, especially as it's one of those shows that if you didn't necessarily catch every word, you'd still leave the theatre on a high from the pure theatrics. |

I'm afraid I won't be rushing to see this in London unfortunately. I was lucky to see it in New York and was so excited to see it - but whilst I liked it (Aaron Tveit was great, as was the tango scene), it didn't blow me away like I thought it would. It's very visually impressive and the set is gorgeous, but there was just something missing about it that I couldn't put my finger on which made me feel a bit 'meh' considering how much the tickets were. It'll be interesting to see who they cast. I'm probably in the minority though and I'm sure it will bring a lot of joy to a lot of people.

Great style and individual elements, but not the brilliant flawless gem some people claim. It’s just too chaotic and messy, and totally lacking in narrative drive. If they focus the book a lot more away from the more fantastical elements and sell the central romance more it would be a lot stronger narratively. |

I just tried to book one ticket and in my basket it says it includes 6 glasses of champagne plus the other bits for £184.50. 6 glasses = 1 bottle of champers, probably cheap stuff. So the ticket is marked up for a £10 bottle of pop that Billy No-mates can drink in splendid isolation and wake up with a stonking headache. |

Thats exactly what I thought, the direction was very uninspired, lacked style and creativity. |
