I'd like to see Poppins come in, I love the music and the show looks stunning (I have never seen it in person though!)... it would make sense as the Drury Lane does have a history, especially recently, of doing these big family musicals. It would be nice to see it come back to London! Also, if it comes in and Zizi stays on, it gives another Strallen another chance at an Olivier! If she makes the eligibility next year, depending when Poppins would open, it will put her up there with Sheridan Smith, Beverley Knight, Amber Riley (and whomever is Deena), Audra McDonald (dependant on category placement), Glenn Close (if eligible) and Gina Beck. Looks to be shaping up to be a good list of Leading Ladies this time round peeps!  Do you think Zizi would stay on or would they recast the two main leads? I hope it comes back but it might only be for a limited season like a year. The he actresses for the Oliviers are looking amazing next year! I think it will be Sheridan Smith, Amber Riley, Beverley Knight, Deena (or would that be supporting?). I think as Lady Day is officially cast as a play Audra would be put under Best Actress in a play. Would Gina Beck be supporting or not? UK theatre actresses are amazing this year!! Do you mean Gina Beck for 'Show Boat'? I'd say she was the lead in that |

In my initial post, I was referring to Gina Beck in Showboat indeed. If Glenn is eligible, it will be between her and Sheridan, but I am not sure if the production is eligible? In which case, Sheridan has it in the bag I think, dependant on Amber. |

Yeah I think a recast will happen. I think some more stars will be involved. I can totally see Claire Sweeney being great in the show! I think Joanna is definitely transferring and I think Claire Machin wants to. I wonder who they would get |

Jasmine would be Supporting, she is literally only in about 5 scenes and only sings two solos and a duet. Unless there is a severe lack of Leading (which evidently there is not) she will be pushed to Supporting. The Tony Award committee ruled Jasmine as leading. |

Ah, well then fair enough. But I doubt she will get into a catagory that includes Sheridan, Amber, possibly Glenn, Gina, whoever is playing Denna, Beverley etc...

FWIW, I'd have said Aladdin has two leading male roles (Aladdin and Genie) and no leading female. I'd have also classified Jasmine as supporting; she may be the main female character, but she doesn't have that much stage time.

I'm calling it that Finding Neverland will go to, and I hate to say this as I love the current show there, the Aldwych Theatre after Beautiful or somewhere that size a theatre and Mary Poppins will go to the Drury Lane.

Is the Aldwych too small or not? That would be a perfect theatre for it, not too big and not too small. I can see Beautiful closing next year. I'd love to see Mary Poppins go to Drury Lane. It seems like a great theatre for it and a family show will be very popular, even for a limited season. I hope this is true! i also think The Girls for the Phoenix, after Guys and Dolls with a recast. |
