Does anyone know if Patti LuPone has any plans to do a 70th birthday celebration concert in London this year? I know she is doing at least one in New York, but a performance in London would be equally good, especially as she has had so much success here. Maybe someone should do some suggesting at the stage door!!!!! Any information appreciated.

I hope no-one spurts out their coffee and makes a mess of their trousers as a result of reading your thread title.

Remember seeing her "Divas at the Donmar" concert years ago although I remember little about it. Didn't she also do a concert in NY with Manday Patinkin a while back? God I bet that was an interesting evening!

I’m amazed they get on - they’re both known to be temperamental!!!

I think "massive success" is debateable....
Based on what?

Well, yes, you’re right about the wording - success is all a relative thing. Nevertheless, for a musical theatre star, she has done several different projects here (The Cradle Will Rock, Les Miserables, Sunset Boulevard, Masterclass and Company, as well as concert runs at the Donmar and the Leicester Square Theatre). She was the first American actress to be a part of the RSC at the Barbican, won the Olivier Award for her first two roles here (combined) and, despite the offstage fiasco for Sunset Boulevard, her British reviews were solidly good and she was nominated for an Olivier. All in all, for an American theatre star, I would say that is a very successful career in London (not to mention all of the success she has had in America). Theatre stars are not like movie stars, but I can’t really think of another American musical theatre star who has enjoyed such success on both sides of the Atlantic.
