I totally disagree and thought this was a great first episode but maybe the lackluster season 13 is colouring my opinion of this premiere. Agree about the elimination though, there were far worse looks on that runway for sure and I was really expecting them to go far based on the promos and their apparent notoriety. Thought the winner deserved it though.

There are some very good queens and some very unpolished ones. And a couple of very annoying ones.
I cannot be doing with Ginny Lemon. I don't need a bad Su Pollard tribute act in my life. And Bimini is just too rough to be worthy of a place.
Scotland is well represented by their two queens. The Dennis look was really fun.
Veronica is soooo different out of drag.
A really iconic queen was robbed of a decent run. And I can't help but feel that was done for shock value.
Lawrence is my one to watch. We need a proper plus size winner for once. And she has the polish to pull this off.

Now can we stop with all this "season" business. Its "series" here in the UK. Another of those awful Americanisms we seem to be adopting.

I like using season, it's more specific because otherwise there's no easy way of differentiating an individual series (season) from the series as a whole - it leads to confusion having a series made up of lots of series, how does that make sense?

I agree that a lot of them are dog rough. Veronica Green has the face of a young Dame Hilda Bracket. Ginny Lemon is Elton John crossed with something out of League of Gentlemen. Bimini Bom whatever her name is is a dead ringer for Sharon Needles out of drag Tia Kofi best name in the comp. Totally bored with Laurence Chaney’s insecurity back story already. Two Naomi Smalls wannabes is two too many. Joe Black: never heard of her but I suspect she thought she was golden and all that messing in the lipsync was to cover up not learning the words. Glad she went! the one from Dundee might be one to watch, I admire those who make their own costumes. She was ripping off Trixie Mattel in her entrance look though.

I've got to agree with you. I'm usually very resistant to Americanisms, and I used to include their use of seasons amongst those I disliked. But in these days of the internet and us getting US shows promoted in the UK at almost the same time as the US, shared promotion meant I either had to learn to accept it, or get annoyed over something that didn't actually matter! Before long I realised that it actually makes more sense to use seasons and series as the Americans do for the reasons you've given. I've reached the point where I'd welcome it being adopted more universally in the UK.

Before long I realised that it actually makes more sense to use seasons and series as the Americans do for the reasons you've given. I've reached the point where I'd welcome it being adopted more universally in the UK. I've recently come to the same realisation! For a long time, I'd push against 'season' if it was used to describe a UK show but have slowly come to realise the benefit in having a word which specifically covers one "season" of a long running series. Especially when we're talking about Drag Race (itself a US format anyway) where there are so many different different incarnations of the series around the world now, it helps to be able to specify which "Season" of which "Series" we're talking about!! I enjoyed the first episode of Series/Season 2 of the UK Series. I found the current US series very hard to get into - not particularly likeable queens winning a not particularly exciting twist whilst the nicer queens are made to vote against each other for no reason other than to create reality-style drama put a dampener on the season opener for me, so the UK version in contrast felt like a breath of fresh air in its simplicity and the way it just let the queens shine. It does feel overkill that they're running UK and USA at the same time though. I'm already getting confused about which queen is in which series!

A weird elimination again for me. They seem to be getting rid of queens who are clearly quite polished and have more to give whilst people who clearly have no more levels (or any levels) remain.
The Rusical was a car crash but it was funny in parts. Probably the right winner this week and that was pretty much the only good thing about this episode.
Not my fave.

I’m not sure who is editing it but they actually got the name of the lip sync song wrong. And on the topic of the lip sync song, what a dull song to choose with very little room to really take it anywhere. For me it’s probably the worst song choice they’ve ever made.

11 is too many for the rusical...
The eliminated queen was far from being the weakest.
And if you are doing a Surprise Surprise runway theme, why wasn't there at least 1 Cilla Black look?

Especially when you have Sheridan Smith - who’s known for playing Cilla both on screen and on stage - judging. The lipsync was a terrible choice. I assumed the Surprise Surprise Cilla nod was leading to an “Anyone Who had a Heart” lipsync (but using Sheridan’s version). But an incorrectly labelled “Memories”? A shame. As another poster mentioned, the song doesn’t allow for a good lipsync as it doesn’t really go anywhere. Vocally and emotionally it’s a great song and a showstopper, but it’s very limiting and one note as a lipsync. A real shame as it meant we lost another polished queen who I personally really enjoyed in the interview sections.

Yeah the lip-sync fell flat for me as well. The vocals didn't really lend themselves for an all-out interpretation of the song like Jennifer Hudson seemed to do in the film (I haven't watched it and doubt I'll ever subject myself to that but I hear there was snot involved so it sounds pretty involved) so there wasn't much room for the queens to inject more emotion into their performances. They were forced to be very understated which doesn't really work when you're only lip-syncing. Cherry seemed to stumble over a few of the words though so I think Tayce was the right choice. I enjoyed the rusical itself though, I thought it was one of the better ones and nobody did outright terrible. Thought some of the judging was off but then again when isn't it? Overall still think this is a strong season so far with a great, charismatic cast.

Ellie is pulling off some good looks but she's not really offering much personality is she? I honestly forget she's there sometimes. Unless it's the edit.
I quite like the story of Veronica being a queen nobody knows and then being a strong contender everyone starts to be threatened by. I wonder of that is going to be the main story of the season.

Most of those reveal looks were basic AF, Tia Kofi being the absolute worst... I do think she’s funny though 😬

Given how she gave up before she ever got in the runway, the right Queen was eliminated.
Love how much cruder the UK version is!

I'm really enjoying this season of the UK version. I'm warming to most of the queens far more than I did in Season one. I was gutted to see this week's bottom two queens: the one is very funny - particularly in the talking heads interviews - and the other is absolutely stunning - as a man and as a woman.

For me, there was too much man and not enough woman. Stunning but not as feminine as they had been in the past. It just felt as if there had been zero effort. I think this was one of the last episodes filmed before lockdown 1 so perhaps there was done anxiety in the room over that?

Loving this second series so much more than the first. Much more feisty. Real fresh alternative talent to be seen on the runway. Looking forward to next episode which has been heavily trailed elsewhere. Should give the brilliant and addictive Australia Married at First Sight a real run for its’ money.

Ok so Ginny just walking off was ICONIC on its own but I’m so disappointed that they cut her supposedly telling Ru to f*ck off beforehand (according to rumours from the Daily Fail), that would have been tv gold.

It was clearly planned as the Halloween episode but still felt disjointed.
Ginny had shown everything that she is. She doesn't have range. That is fine for her but was never going to win with this format.
Ellie was disappointing this week. But she was right to call out Ru over the accent thing.

Ok so Ginny just walking off was ICONIC on its own but I’m so disappointed that they cut her supposedly telling Ru to f*ck off beforehand (according to rumours from the Daily Fail), that would have been tv gold. I imagine that it got leaked someone just left and didn't lip sync, and they might have described it as "oh yeah she just told the show to F off and left" and the rumour spiralled to all of that (I assume Ginny doesn't seem malicious!) UK Drag Race once again proving to be full of twists, turns, and a competition I am actually invested in! I do think Awhora was the clear winner, Laurence feels like she's being carried ala Eureka but I don't think she needs to be pushed, she has the talent and the chops but its clear production pegged her as a top 3, like Baga not being in the bottom for her scour brush dress. Will be interesting next week, is it a whole non-competitive episode following the queens post lockdown? And who will have changed what with the 6 month break?!

Hmmm as much as I don't like Ginny I think Victoria deserved to be in the bottom over him. Her challenge was a mess and no pig mask should've saved her!
I loved Lawrence's outfit, it was genius!

Will be interesting next week, is it a whole non-competitive episode following the queens post lockdown? And who will have changed what with the 6 month break?! Available from Thursday 7pm will be the next 'proper' episode - then available from Friday morning a special "RuPaul's Drag Race UK: Queens On Lockdown" Described as: A never-before-seen look into the lockdown lives of the queens of RuPaul's Drag Race UK, when they were sent home for a seven-month break in filming due to the pandemic. Through a combination of self-filmed video diaries and interview footage, the queens give us an all-access look at their quarantine home lives, their professional struggles, emotional highs and lows, and how they got ready to return to the competition.

Well that was an interesting episode.
Big shame for Veronica but looking forward to seeing her in the future
Eurovision should have been the runway theme as well. So many iconic looks that would have been perfect for drag.
Result felt inevitable but sad nonetheless. She was not cut out for this sort of competition. But I would love to see her live

To be honest i thought RU was a bit unfair. Don't kick off about looks off the rack when many other queens have done the same thing and not been pulled up on it and even gone on to be the weeks winner. Asttina wore a jacket and some shorts from Asos and won it in the first week? The American queens admit to buying stuff from Amazon and places all the time and it literally never gets mentioned by the judges. Plus there was a lockdown, no shops were open and they had limited income, don't kick off like that.
Can we just talk about Bing Bang Bong though? I will not get that out of my head for days now and I'm annoyed about it.
