Thought it might be fun to start a thread on lyrics from musicals that you've completely misheard, or maybe lyrics you think would work better if they *were* misheard! Maybe even some examples from pop music too, I know Peter Kay does a particularly hilarious bit on misheard lyrics in pop music! Or maybe if certain lyrics that would make absolutely no sense if they were directly translated into another language, nothing is off limits!  I'll kick off with some examples that led to me creating this thread, from Kinky Boots, it's been mentioned a couple of times that the Raise You Up lyric "glitter rusts" could be mistaken for "cliterous" and "bubble busts" could be mistaken for "bubble butts". Also, the lyric "God thy will is hard, for you hold every card" in Gethsemane from Jesus Christ Superstar has now officially been changed to "God thy will be done, take your only son" to avoid "God thy willie's hard" in the former!! Over to you....!  |

Jimmy Fallon has a hashtag section in the Tonight show where he asks for viewers to tweet him about that hashtag. The hashtag has been #misheardlyrics twice so far. Not musical related, but hilarious:

Oh I love an misheard lyric...for me lately it's been 'Say no to this' in Hamilton for some reason I heard 'Like David Guetta' (as in the DJ or whatever he is) instead of 'now get up' particularly stupid...

Not being a native speaker, I hadn't heard of the phrase "to be on the lam" before. Whenever I was watching Wicked, I heard the guard saying either "there's a goat on the lamp" or "there's a goat on the lamb".
I only found out about the actual meaning when I happened to attend a subtitled show and read the phrase on one of the displays.

For years, and I mean years, I sang "When history broke on the shelf" instead of "The history book on the shelf" (Waterloo/ABBA). In fact I still DO sing it wrong. I think mine's better  |

In the Disney animated feature The Little Mermaid, I always thought Ariel sings "You want thing-of-aboves? I've got 20" It turns out to be "Thingamabobs". I think mine's better too |

Lam is the printed word but it’s a pun—we’re meant to hear “lamb” as well. |

I've remembered one of mine (as EP has just played it on the radio) - Hot Patootie, Bless My Soul, from Rocky Horror.
I always thought it was "Opportunity, bless mt soul..." (never having heard of a patootie!)

Before I saw Wicked in London, my only reference was Idina Menzel and her voice singing Defying Gravity. For the longest time, I thought the lyric was "So if you dare defy me, look to the western sky!" before I obviously realised, once I heard the British accent, that it was in fact "So if you care to find me, look to the western sky!"
