Well said, poster j, totally agree...if we can’t voice opinions what is the point of this forum. In this case,alece10 ACTUALLY wanted to see my review so I posted it. Not saying I know any better than anybody else...I am just one person with my own opinion, that’s it! And thank you for posting it. It's always good to have opinions backed up by personal experience. I'm sure you must have liked something about it as you say its the worst thing you have seen at the Palladium rather than the worst thing you have seen in a theatre.

This musical has really polarised opinion as people seem to really like it or really hate it and with press night around the corner I wonder what the press will make of it. I have a feeling that they wont like it but hope I am wrong which leads me to my next question of whether people take any notice of critics anymore? Has their opinions become outdated now that everyone can post a review, opinion etc on social media. Personally I tend to go more on what other theatre goers say about a show rather than a journalist. Some critics can be total snobs about anything popularist (is that a word?) and I am pointing the finger at The Times critics who seem to hate all musicals (although they did give Adrian Mole a good review this week). Id rather listen to the opinion of someone who has paid to see a show as they want to see it rather than a journalist who is being paid to see a show.

I think the fault with this production lies in the direction and production. You can't really blame the cast for the way the show has been staged and produced. I guess if you go not taking it too seriously then you should have a good enough night. Despite my criticisms I still enjoyed it, but it could have been so much better.

I've yet to read anyone who said Jason Donovan was a good singer. You missed my posts then? 😀

I saw the 2007 production and thought it was very good, aside from King of My Heart. I did not see the 91 production. That was almost 30 years ago. But this is just not Joseph. That picture of Sheridan is horrible. It actually sounds gross that Sheridan is a Mrs. P to a child's Mr. P. And from that picture she looks like she would be committinge statutory rape with a Joseph who looks so young. Seriously?! He is an adult. We have had decades of far older men chasing after far younger ladies and nobody ever says anything about that.

As a previous poster had said, you can have up to 4 tickets if you win the lottery. After much debating (because Young and I have tickets already later this month together already) we’ve bought 4 tickets and we will be taking both kids. Littlest has been spotting Joseph buses everywhere in London for the last few weeks now, and is v happy. Tickets we got allocated were row F of the Royal Circle for those interested.

Who are you to determine what standards people should set though? Everyone's entitled to their own opinion, including what they consider constitutes the "lowest common denominator", if they choose to use that phrase, and that includes people who hate a production for whatever reason! It's not snobbery, it's personal opinion, the whole point of a forum. Some people are becoming far too quick to jump on anyone who dares to voice any negativity around here, and it really does sometimes make me think twice about posting for fear of being torn apart for daring to dislike something! It's getting a bit much lately... I'm not up for an argument about it - just sick of the lowest common denominator nonsense which implies some kind of superiority. Don't be so dainty and precious about the right to express an opinion, as I'm just expressing mine. You just happen to disagree. Which is fine. Ya melt. Poster J was describing the show but you decided to get personal. That speaks volumes- whether you believe it does or want it to. This production is the epitome of "lowest common denominator" not as a judgement of the audience but as an assessment of the lazy, cynical and botched approach to staging a great show. Going for cheap laughs at the cost of the material, having an incoherent artistic interpretation (what is going on with the kid brothers who are meant to be OLDER than Joseph?) and gimmick casting actors who do not do justice to the material are all symptoms of a show that has been thrown on as a cash cow rather than a genuine attempt to make a classic show even better. And it's no use wailing "ah but it's just 'Joseph' and a bit of fun", because Steven Pimlott and Anthony van Laast managed to avoid all these pitfalls and create a show that was a whole LOT of fun!
The fact that you decided that you had to be rude in response rather says it all, and I think makes your sequence of posts rather hypocritical. It's entirely unnecessary for you to insult me for giving a different opinion to you in the same breath as you claim that my doing so is "fine". That's not giving an opinion, and if you're not up for argument then I'm not quite sure why you made the statement on a discussion forum in the first place - that was your choice, so people are entitled to respond.
This thread is really starting to make me understand more why so many long standing posters have chosen to leave this forum in the last few months. Maybe I'll just stick to threads where the opinion I have to give is a positive one from now on, then there is less of a risk of offending anyone by committing the sin of disagreeing with them...
Grow up.

Can we reign it in a bit please? This show is obviously polarising opinion but there’s no need to get personal with fellow members. Chill. Please.

If you like Sheridan, you’ll have a HOOT. If you don’t... maybe just don’t go...
I had the time of my life. This production is terrible in every way (apart from Jac, who is gonna be one of our big leading men in years to come - so good!) But I had an absolute ball and would go again.
Granted I paid £15 and would have felt cheated had I paid more, but I had a blast!

" Being Alive" where did you sit for £15? I really want to see it but I have this nagging feeling I won't like this interpretation with the kids and SS comedy night.

Whilst it was a great addition in 2007 giving Dean Collinson's Pharaoh an extra song, believe me you wouldn't wanna hear Jason sing twice within 10 minutes.

I think [insert gender definition of choice] is responsible for all of it. At least that’s what I read. Sorry Andrew.

Well, I'm at this evening's show, and we've just stopped - obvious problem with the on stage lift. Press night is Thursday - will they have these problems sorted out by then?

I’m here too. Lift was supposed to go up but didn’t properly. I know there’s been a few problems with it.
As an aside, show is much tighter and Sheridan less ott. Kids are loving it so that’s the main thing!

I'm in the Grand Circle (top layer), and I'd say we've got a pretty mixed demographic of ages up here - and it's pretty much full too.
