I’m sad to say this but I’ve heard from various people involved that they want Carrie Hope Fletcher as the Narrator- because of her large social media following. Outside of the social media/fangirl clique, though, this girl is nothing.

I don't think they will have much difficulty selling a 12 week run - even in a big theatre. But having some names will certainly help the process (especially if extending is in the plan)

Unless you are 6 years old you would never have heard of Joe Suggs. Plus he is a puny little thing. Not something I'd want to see in a loincloth.

Funnily enough as it's a show more aimed at families that makes him perfect. plus over 8million YouTube subscribers and millions watching him on strictly each week. People may not like it but youtube/social media stars are stars in their own right now and probably are the next big thing in theatre casting.
as for the loincloth well he wouldn't be the first to look like that. plus some gym training could sort that if producers deemed it a must.
as I say, he isn't who I'd personally want but I can completely see why they would opt for someone like him and Carrie Hope Fletcher. perfect to attract new generations to the theatre.

with some training, it worked for Philip Schofield very well. It's about charm and personality and Joe has that in spades. And he has 6 months to go to the gym! The public expects more these days. Back in the Jason Donovan/Phillip Schofield days, the charts were full of popstars who were really soap stars and even the more talented singers didn't bother to sing live on tv. If someone was good enough, that was good enough. Since then, we've had almost twenty years of the live singing auditions shows, whether it's the ones specifically for a musical, or the X Factor type ones, and even if you aren't a fan of those shows, or the type of singers it produces, viewers quickly realised that there are hundreds of non-famous people out there who can do a lot more than hold a tune. I've given up watching them, so I'm not sure of the current format, but IMO it's simply unacceptable to cast someone who couldn't* make it through a couple of rounds of tv auditions into a leading singing role in the West End. *The caveat being that lots of good singers wouldn't get far because they aren't pop star material either, but we're talking about Joseph, and a good Joseph shares a lot of the qualities with a good popstar.

I would actually be very happy for Carrie to be cast as the Narrator. I know many on here love to criticise her, but her talent is undeniable and over the course of the Heathers run her voice has become a lot more powerful. I really think she suits the part well and could do a very good job.

People still flock to the theatre to see a pop star or someone "off the telly" even if they aren't up to the job and/or can't act their way out of a paper bag. I don't think the great unwashed are particularly discerning. They just want a nice night out and to be entertained for their money.

He posts pictures of himself topless and ‘muscle-posing’ and, yes he’s toned, but he is so so scrawny. I’d want someone with far more muscle bulk in a loincloth!!!

Joe Sugg is a nice enough guy but I wouldn’t want him as Joseph, or any role on the West End for that matter, unless he’s a talented singer. I’m sure if they are desperate to attract younger audiences, they could at least select someone with a singing background.

Based on his YouTube videos he can sing. Although I imagine they will go down the pop star route for this.

I don't think the great unwashed are particularly discerning. They just want a nice night out and to be entertained for their money. I definitely agree many people want someone "off the telly", but since the tv talent shows caught on, there was an improvement in the basic singing ability of your typical pop star. Not just those who became pop stars via that route, but it marked a shift in regular pop stars being forced to sing live so as not to be left behind. I'll admit, that may have been a temporary blip, and finding a pop song with proper singing is a challenge these days, so I might just have argued against myself there. I suppose my point is that even if you are restricting your casting of the lead role to someone off the telly, most people would still want that person to be able to sing reasonably well. However, I begrudgingly admit that many less discerning theatre goers can't actually tell if someone is a bit off-key, and that's before you consider our individual preferences for singing styles. In a huge theatre like the Palladium, most people will get more benefit from a good singer who can act a bit, rather than vice versa.

You guys think they will get Joe McElderry to reprise the part?

You guys think they will get Joe McElderry to reprise the part? I think they will want someone bigger. If they don’t go down the big pop star route (somehow who has a bigger current following than Joe McElderry) I can see them targeting Hollywood.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Zach Efron is approached (in my dreams!)

The CHFer would be a good choice as Narrator, it would be a role well within her vocal range, she is the ideal age and has a large fan base. It is a London run, dead easy costume and make up, 2nd leading role in show so that would appeal to her.
I'm sure ALW would need to know if Joe Sugg could sing before he got the role, but he took a punt of Schofe many years ago, it shouldn't happen but it might just.
The fun could be stage door battles between the Hopefuls and Suggs' mob. I wonder if gum shields can fit over teeth braces!

If they want people who can sing, act and have a large following, maybe Troye Sivan?

I wonder if gum shields can fit over teeth braces! I am laughing so hard at this I think I've put my back out! I am, quite frankly, appalled at some of the suggestions on here. Take your tongues out of your cheeks everyone. ALW might be reading this and taking it literally. You know what he's like...😱

If they want people who can sing, act and have a large following, maybe Troye Sivan? Gosh, the Josephs keep getting thinner and thinner and scrawnier and scrawnier. In the scene where Joseph is imprisoned, Sivan could just walk straight through the bars - without even having to turn sideways!!! He’s cute though.

Fair enough! At least we have established that. Any suggestions of who it could be? I'm actually struggling to find a list anywhere of actresses who has played the Narrator to see if I recognise anyone. Julie Maguire This has got me wondering if the album I had was the one from 1998: musicbrainz.org/release/7c153b4b-cab7-4955-b7e9-464859609a28But again, having searched the Internet I still can't find the CD I once had. I'm actually kicking myself that I even got rid of it now.

Wasn’t there gossip about ALW wanting Liam Payne to do it in the west end a few years ago?
