Oh goodness. I was so excited for this when I booked it. Tbh, I'm still excited, it's just more to see just how nuts it's going to be rather than excited to see how fabulous it's going to be.
I'm at the first preview, and only paid £10 so if it turns out to be awful no harm done. Not long to wait now.

I would say because the logo is iconic. It's returning to the Palladium with an original cast member. When they reimagined Phantom and Les Mis Saigon - they will used the show logos. A lot of it will be down to emotional connection and such. I see your point! And I sort of 50% agree! The thing with Phantom, Les Mis and Miss Saigon is they have only EVER had (variations on) these original logos - also of course they were still produced by Cameron and the new versions had SO many echoes to the originals. Joseph has had a million versions and a million logos so using the same one clearly references that specific production (even the Lee Mead/Gareth Gates version which WAS the same production got a different logo). Fair enough though I guess, same theatre and the JD connection. And yes it is a great logo. I had it on a t shirt in the 90s!

I still have my t-shirt from when i saw it at the Minskoff Theater on Broadway . For the purists out there, they will gripe of Laurence O'Connor's production as it will be different, but im just going in looking to enjoy myself. Not a huge SS fan and don't think she has the vice she once had in Legally Blonde, but she will hopefully try hard. Does anyone know her her understudy is? Natasha J Barnes?

I'll definitely book a ticket when the understudy Narrator goes on.

For those of us who didn’t see it, why was Linzi so fab?

For those of us who didn’t see it, why was Linzi so fab? Stunning effortless voice. Not only technically A1 with incredible range and belt but also with a beautiful quality to it. And then incredibly warm and likeable - both on stage and off. Was just a role that suited her so well. And the show was such good quality with such (justified for once) hype that it was overall a fabulous experience.

Yes I didn't see this but Linzi has such a great voice and is such a lovely person. I can well imagine her being the ultimate narrator.

Adding to what @dom wrote, I think Linzi has a very expressive voice. On the Joseph cast recording she's soft and tender in the Prologue and Pharaoh's Story, having fun and belting her face off in Jacob and Sons, and camping it up in Potipher. Also she was so much fun in the show, interracting with the other characters and it never once felt forced.
Also, being part of a production that was so big and well put together on every level that it just made a brilliant night out.
Yes i'm biased because i'm a huge fan, but this really was one of those occasions when a show, the part and the performer all came together pefectly.

One thing that is interesting to note, RUG are releasing Joseph to adult companies outside of London for 2020. It will only be available in venues of under 1000 seats.
It will be interesting to see which version of the score is made available

Well there have been various additions/changes over the years - like the megamix - but also the relatively extra song for Pharaoh (which escapes my right now), additional material for the Narrator. All quite minor - but still have extended the show beyond the original two versions.
It sounds like this new production has made some changes as well - not least to role allocation
Hopefully it will be the more established version that is made available - as that is what audiences will expect

The new song is King of My Heart. I've never seen it in production and maybe i just know the original songs so well, but it seems to slow the score down to a halt. Unless you love dodgy Elvis impressions in which case you might love it.

Does anybody here know why Linzi didn’t get the chance to reprise her role in the Joseph video?

Does anybody here know why Linzi didn’t get the chance to reprise her role in the Joseph video? No idea, but as a guess - same old story, as soon as anything goes to film they want 'names.' Although there's not much in it, I think Maria Friedman is more of a name. Also, Maria has worked with ALW a few times, so they could be mates I guess.

I think another thing was before this, everyone assumed Joseph was a little fun show and absolutely the remit of the amateur circuit and the Kenwright version - cheap and cheerful. Nobody had ever considered it could be a huge West End show of the likes of Cats, Starlight, Les Mis, Phantom, Saigon (at the time). Then here we had it with a full female ensemble matching the males, completely re-orchestrated for a 15 piece orchestra, a massive set and incredible lighting, a pop star and holding it all together Linzi Hately. And who knew, Joseph was suddenly a huge West End show! It also came at the absolute height of ALW gigantism when you could also see another 5 ALW shows in the West End. Sunset was of course next, before mega musicals started their slow steady decline.....

I don't know why Linzi wasn't on the video. Maybe because her performance was already on the 1991 cast recording, so they wanted someone new for the video (I know Donny Osmond is also on the Canadian cast recording, but I suppose he's more of a name).
Also, I always found it odd that the Les Mis Stage by Stage video used the music from the Complete Symphonic Recording, but featured Linzi Hateley's On My Own. I would have loved to have had her Eponine on that complete CD.

Haha, I loved my Joseph t-shirt. I had a Cats and Miss Saigon one too. And the grey Les Mis sweatshirt...which I do still have (although don't wear).

Gosh me too. Frances Ruffelle and Linzi Hately were iconic Eponines.

Joseph, Cats, Miss Saigon and Les Mis (and Starlight Express of course!). Never wear them, but don't want to throw them out. Keep thinking I should give them a wash and put them on ebay or something.

Actually, I think I might have had a Starlight Express t-shirt too, which is odd as I never did see that show. I think my mum must have quietly disposed of my t-shirts after I wore them to death. It's just the Les Mis jumper and a Joseph baseball cap that survived.
I might start collecting show t-shirts again, but not sure if I'd ever wear them.

Threw all mine away when I went to uni at 18 and cleared out my room in my parent’s house. Massively regret it now!

My mum knows better than to touch all the old stuff still piled up in my room, luckily. I rarely ever wore mine, because I was so worried about the logos fading. Except one Cats T-Shirt from Hamburg, where the white "Cats" letters and the eyes were stitched rather than printed. That one went predictably grey. Didn't buy new T-shirts for a long while, except one from Priscilla, but then I got one from Hamilton in NY when it was still so new that having seen the show earned you bragging rights and of course one from Bat. Which is now the one I'm not wearing for fear it will fade, LOL. I'll have a look this weekend and might wear the old Joseph T-Shirt when I see the new show in July

Since the show was originally written to be performed by children, maybe that's the rationale for this new concept? Also to create synergy with School of Rock?
We'll see if it works.

Agree with everything above and more - Linzi was just total dynamite in that show, looked like she was having the time of her life every night and what a voice! The narrator is the lynchpin who owns this show and she certainly delivered that. She scarcely left the stage for the entire show and even when she wasn’t centre stage, the audience was always aware of her presence. I’ve seen many different versions of Joseph both before and after the original Palladium production and never seen a narrator that gets close to Linzi’s amazing performance.
