Was at The Empire this evening too Whilst I enjoyed it, I didn't feel as though it was as good as at the Palladium. Some of the staging seemed to have been scaled down and the loss of the central revolve/tier was noticeable. Linzi definitely makes the show worthwhile, she always looks like she is having so much fun up there but I still don't see the appeal of Jason D to so many people! It's criminal that Jac gets such a low billing. In the programme he's listed after Linzi and Jason. First time I've been back in the Empire for years and remembered why I'd not been back. Some of the audience had a very short attention span- there were people leaving their seats a few songs into both Acts and one couple left during the start of "Go go go Joseph" and came back again just as it ended. Most irritating though was someone started singing along to Any Dream reprise so everyone then joined in. I was at both shows yday. Huge Jason fan. My god the ADWD sing along was awful. Not into karaoke when I’ve paid to hear the professionals do it. Thankgod the kids came on when they did. Had a young couple in the front row in front of me canoodling, talking, laughing in Close Every Door. How I didn’t say anything I’ll never know. Ppl just don’t have theatre manners at all. Loved the show as allways. Love having Linzi back esp as I saw her a lot in the 90’s with Jason. Love how close those two and the closeness on stage. It radiates off both of them. Like a warm hug… Sheridan I tolerated. Linzi is fab. Jason is too. Crowd love him and rightly so… Kel x 👱🏻♂️🇦🇺🎤🌈🌈🌈

I think the appeal of Jason is more nostalgia than anything else - no-one is there because they acknowledge he is the best star in musical theatre, but they remember him as the soap- and popstar, or their first Joseph, or their teenage crush.
I thought Jac coming after Jason in the programme was weird too, to be honest.
I was sat in row BB, and initially feared it was going to be a singalong free for all, but I didn't hear that much of it up front. And the reprise of ADWD is clearly geared around the audience joining in, so I didn't mind that.

I’m back in Glasgow this weekend and decided to go and see this at the Kings Theatre tonight, having seen it in the Palladium last year with Alexandra a couple of times.
I’ll preface this by saying my main reason for going is that Linzi is one of my favourite theatre performers ever, so it was mainly for her. I was also in row A of the stalls, so absolutely loved being so close to her performing and found her hilarious.
However, I think I echo the sentiments of a lot of other people on here when I say this production is just a bit…lacking? I knew the track had been lowered before going as I seen it last year, but have they also brought down the tempo on some numbers even more since last summer or am I imagining it? Jacob and sons especially felt awkwardly slow. The staging was also noticeably paired down for the tour, and looks a bit cheap to be completely honest.
Having the kids as main characters is also such a strange move and my opinion on it is the same as last year - cheap labour! It totally takes away from the comedy of the show and replaces it with a cutesy “awww” kind of feeling, which I’m not a fan of. Obviously I don’t want to be too hard on a kid, but the girl chosen to sing the beginning of Benjamin’s Calypso tonight couldn’t hold a note and it was really cringe to listen to. The Potiphar scene is also supposed to be dripping in innuendo, but has been kid proofed so much in this production that it feels redundant.
Also I’m starting to think I attract this, but we had a show stop tonight for about 10 minutes, in the middle of the Pharaoh song. I’m actually not sure what happened to be honest, but during the song an audience member started shouting how much they loved Jason repeatedly (A very deep man’s voice, which I found hilarious), to the point where Jason started hysterically laughing and lost his place on the song. He quickly got it together but a few seconds after the song finished and Jack was about to give Joseph’s “prediction”, a stage crew member came out and told them all to leave and the good old technical difficulties notice was played as the curtain came down.
Does anyone who knows more about the production know what happened here? Myself and the rest of the audience were really puzzled.
My thoughts on Jason are also the exact same as last summer, he delivers quite possibly the worst stage performance I’ve ever seen in this show. It’s quite obvious that the majority of the audience are nostalgic fans of his who will cheer for anything he does, and they did (very wildly!), but his actual performance is extremely bad.
Jac was great as always, I’ve said since I first seen this that his talent exceeds this role and I’m sure he’ll go onto much bigger things in the future.
Overall I enjoyed the night as a Linzi fan, but I’ll probably not see the tour again despite planning on doing so in Woking when I’m back in London. As much as I would like to see Linzi again, I’d rather wait to see her in whatever she does next to be honest.

I was extremely disappointed when I didn’t see Linzi in this at the Palladium last year, but looking back I’m glad the only memories I have of her as Narrator are in the absolutely perfect original Palladium production, and not this awful thing.

There's been a show stop almost every single day this week, most of the time because of pieces of set/scenery getting caught in the wings.

It totally explains Linzi's facial expression as well - she looked really fed up and frustrated when the stage crew member tapped her on the shoulder, which led me to wonder what was going on, but she was probably just sick of it constantly happening.

You're lucky! Unfortunately I wasn't born when the original production took place, so this was actually my first time seeing Linzi play the narrator in person tonight.

I’ve been tonight in Leeds and enjoyed the production more than I thought I would but not a patch on the 1991 palladium version. Absolutely loved Linzi who worked hard all night and looked to be having loads of fun. She was the only reason I booked and did not disappoint. A very good cast overall..
Jason was ok, although given the reaction of the audience around us he was clearly the best thing ever. He got away with overacting which is what the part needs.
Row behind was full of women who shrieked, hollered, sang along and had loud shrieky conversations whenever the music got louder, and of course at the interval got more alcohol because what they really needed was their inhibitions lowering. My right ear is ringing after the insanely loud whooping every time Jason moved any part of his body whatsoever. Hopefully he heard them repeatedly shouting “I love you Jason” and saw how quickly they left at the end to try and get to the stage door and made a quick exit for his own safety!

Does anyone know the size of the band for the tour?
Is it a reduction in numbers compared to the 2019 + 2021 Palladium runs?

This seems to have sold very well in Woking, I guess because it’s not going anywhere else near London a lot of families from all across the London area will be travelling down to catch it, quite a few repeat attendees from the summer runs at the Palladium as well no doubt. Looking forward to probably seeing Jac as Joseph for the 5th and final time and hopefully finally seeing Linzi after she was unfortunately ill last summer.

I guess they might mean the Tuacahn Amphitheatre production that's currently running in the states and has articles on broadwayworld. It does look good

I’ve seen this on tour 3 times now (cos or course I have!) and I still love it! Linzi Hateley playing the narrator continues to be a masterclass in musical theatre! She’s so energetic I don’t know how she does it! Absolutely amazing. Jac is also really great! Just 2 hours of fun! I’m going to Linzi’s last 2 shows in Bristol, never done double before, 2 shows in one day and also never been to Bristol before so looking forward to it!

If you go by car College Green car park is the closest good size surface car park to the Hippodrome and we've always managed to get in there. The railway station is a mile or so away but a pleasant walk if you follow the river. I don't drive but Bristol is my partner's least favourite theatre city to visit by car. Lots of one way systems and very easy to go round in circles, satnav definitely recommended

I can highly recommend the wrap/kebab shop on the corner of Denmark St & St Augustines Parade (about 3 doors down from the Hipp) Always seems to be just one guy working at his own speed but his chicken & halloumi wrap hit the spot. Or Bambalam is in whatever ‘Colston Tower’ is called now if you fancy something overpriced but local. I second College Green car park if you’re driving.

This is exactly the kind of post I appreciate… even as someone who works a lot in London it can be hard to find good places avoiding the tourist trap.

Thanks that’s ace! I looked at trains and they all seemed to be a pain, lots of changes etc so I’ve decided to drive. I also decided to book for the evening as well as the matinee! Never done the double before! I’ve booked a hotel in Clevedon which is about half an hour out. Looks lovely by the sea, so I’m going to drive down crack of Dawn Saturday morning, check in, drive into Bristol and do the 2 shows then the. Next day beach, quick look at Bristol and meander back up north! Never been to Bristol before so looking forward to it
