First SIX not getting a chance to deliver and now this teeth- grinding farce...avoid THE ONE SHOW all you musical theatre booking agents at all costs...hope Waitress avoids this or it could be terminal

I actually quite like some of the numbers- Knight of the Woeful Countenance especially. But I don't want to hear KG amateur warble. It was funny in Frasier. Don't expect me to take it seriously, Yum-yum! Did you know he's... done a decent amount of theatre? |

Yes. I've seen and heard it first-hand. His Georges in La Cage was... broad. I thank the stars he never realized his dream to play Albin!
He is not a versatile actor and his instrument is loud but lacking finesse.

Just watched THE ONE SHOW duet back again.Dani de Niese’s face when she looked at Kelsey reminded me of the look you would give your partner seated next to you as you were about to hit the first drop on a huge roller-coaster.
‘Are we really doing this? Whose bright idea was this?’.
Think I could faintly hear her agent softly weeping off-camera as they hit the big notes together!

They are starting to get desperate. I've had at least three ticket sellers who I occassionally blog for offering tickets for three different nights. It is rare there are three trade nights in a short run, in such a large venue. It is struggling and I don't know how they will build the momentum and interest it needs.The reputation of the ENO summer musical should have shifted tickets but there is a lot not resonating with the public.

I found this interesting (in the wikipedia entry): "The original lyricist of the musical was poet W. H. Auden, but his lyrics were discarded, some of them considered too overtly satiric and biting, attacking the bourgeois audience at times. Auden's lyrics were replaced by those of Joe Darion." Shame- the ENO did have the chance to become a big money spinner. It relies on a strong show choice, cast extremely well, with a massive name.
Look at the success Sunset had. Chess and it's casting put a stop to it, whilst it was well received and did do ok, it wasn't a patch on Glenn in Sunset.
Now with KG in MOLM, they have completely and utterly killed it off IMO.
Whilst I love CJ I cba to see this! no doubt it will lose a hefty amount as the productions aren't executed half bad.
Shame! Wouldn't be surprised if it's the last!

I wouldn’t say KG was a bad choice in terms of him being a well known name that TPTB would think might shift some tickets, but having seen the One Show vid he’s def an interesting choice when you factor in his inability to sing that well! |

However, if they had cast Hugh Jackman it would have sold out!

It was the WORST show I ever saw on Broadway (around 2002) and I refuse to see this. I just hated it beyond words. The reason why it will flop is that no one knows it, bad casting, no social connection to our youth (like Oliver, Sunset or Sound of Music), the theatre is too big, ticket prices too high, that awful You Tube clip of them all singing that one hit wonder song was shocking and had the worst arrangement ever - and in short, it’s a horrible show that bored me to tears. |

It's a non-event. These days people need a compelling reason to pay the prices they do. There's no question seeing GC in 'Sunset' was an event. 'Chess' was questionable.
In this case, neither the star no the title have pulling power.
I look forward to comps.

Just had a quick look and it seems they've closed the balcony Mon-Fri. Such a shame as I've always wanted to see this, but as already said wrong show for the wrong venue.  |

I like to visit the ENO when I'm in London, if there is something on that interests me. I enjoyed The Force of Destiny, Marnie, and Porgy and Bess. For my upcoming visit, the only "opera" that will be on, will be Man of La Mancha. I've never seen the show, though I like the music very much. I would have gone to see it, but not with Kelsey Grammer.
