Re Watergate, I was there today and the notice displayed says you can take water in if the bottle is still sealed. If opened, then good luck! As for Man of La Mancha, well, I have to say didn't know a great deal about the musical, other than the Impossible Dream. I sort of enjoyed it, but I started to drift off during the first half. The orchestra was wonderful, Kelsey Grammar better than I expected. I saw Cassidy Jansen as Dulcinea - is her accent meant to sound Glaswegian?!I was in the Dress Circle. I would estimate it was about seven-eighths full, and from what I could see of the Stalls, that area looked pretty full too. There was a standing ovation from the Stalls at the end, and about a quarter of the Dress stood too, so it seemed to go down well. Yes, but i have no bloody idea why! |

Meaningless AS WELL AS bad behaviour (for they force the people behind to stand, too, if they want to see the bows/finale, which is very selfish on the part of those given to standing ovations)! |

I'm really tempted to get a cheap dayseat for this and take a gulp of vino for every time the following happens:
- Impossible Dream is heard
- Something happens that was dodgy in the 60s, and unforgivable nowadays
- A mic is not turned on
- Someone hits a bum note
- An ensemble member actually does something
- Nicholas Lyndhurst

If only the Coliseum was an ATG venue. They have that 'special' offer on wine. Buy two expensive glasses 🍷🍷 and get the rest of the bottle free. You can even take it into the auditorium with you!

Speaking of that ATG nibble box, pre ordering them online is a total ripoff. £15 online compared to £6.50 in the theatre, for the exact same contents.

Does anyone remember in Viva Forever! (did it have an exclamation mark?) when one of the characters says "LET'S MAKE THE HEADLINES" and all the audience groaned because we had Headlines about 3 times.
The point does anyone shout out "This is an impossible dream!" leading into a version of the song.

Gutted that you don't get the ice cream with the wine option, though, what about us lushes who also like a bit of creamy goodness?

I hear the staircase failed to lower last night during opening overture so orchestra played extended version until fixed.

That schedule is on the ENO website - MS could have looked it up. Interesting that Danielle's last performance is the Thursday night of the last week and Cassidy does the final 3 shows. Most unusual for the leading lady not to do the final night of the run. It's like she's leaving the production early!

The first performance of the Opera in which she's starring at Glyndebourne is June 8th, hence the days off from this.

Still a HUGE amount of availability for this - the prices have come down - eg. Dress Circle now £75 and £65 midweek.
But for tonight - Stalls - 150 seats available
Dress - 329 seats available
Upper - 317 seats available
Monday Stalls - 188
Dress - 323
Upper - 450
Later in the run.... even more availability!
At 4.30pm this afternoon still Today Tix rush seats still available (released more?) offered row H stalls - great seats! Although I was withering in my "review" for £25 to see a production on this scale is a bargain from such a great seat! The orchestra alone is worth the price of admission!

Well having just seen the matinee I have to agree this is as tedious as early reports have indicated.
The music is pleasant but only one up from bland and apart from The Big Song always just fails to be memorable. Dramatically it's inert and by the end you don't give a toss for any of the characters. The dialogue scenes have no pace and seem very slow. There are some good actors in this with Nicholas Lyndhurst showing the best comic timing and Peter Polycarpou is as excellent as ever. David Seadon Young is almost criminally under-used. I thought Kelsey Grammer was good; he handled the pathos well at the end. He has a very pleasant baritone with good strength on his lower notes and he landed his climactic high note at the end of 'The Impossible Dream' with considerable aplomb. Incidentally, the final reprise of this song has two glorious key changes which makes it ascend wonderfully for its final choral ending. But really by then you don't give a monkeys because the rest has been so dull.
Oh, I forgot, Danielle de Niese was fab vocally and I found her acting better than some have suggested.
