Is Stephen Rae is in this version too? Loved it when I saw it in Dublin in 2016 (although I don't know if 'loved' is the right term to use, given the subject matter and proceedings)

Saw it in Belfast in June. It was excellent and Rea is magnetic in it. Chris Corrigan was amazing too, hope he returns to it.

Got a front row seat to see this on Valentines Day - possibly one of the least romantic modern day plays imaginable 😝

Saw this on Thursday, I booked to see it on Valentines Day because I didn't want to see anything remotely romantic but I had forgotten just how dark a play this is - I had planned to go for a few drinks round the Sloane Square area after but I felt so down after seeing it I just decided to go home. Same cast as when I saw it Dublin 2016, but I don't know if that was the same actress playing Erics wife as when I saw it before, and that, erm, 'denouement'- {Spoiler - click to view} I don't know if it was because I was in shock at seeing just what was happening the first time, but Rea didn't seem to bash the bin bag about for as long as when I saw it before or with as much fervour (I also seem to remember some kind of fluids coming out of the bag and being splashed about on the stage floor too). Anyway, still highly recommended, but totally the wrong play for a date night...

Does the above comment possibly need spoiler tags?

OK, as I have gone well beyond the point of no return, the forces of righteousness can spoiler tag as they deem necessary (if it is indeed necessary, the bit about the bag might just be a bit of grief Eric was having with his recycling)

I'm seeing it Thursday, and now have a very good idea of what happens, because of that post. If it was spoiler tagged, I wouldn't have clicked it. Simple.

By righteousness, I meant the mods.

I saw this when it came to New York. The audience was in total shock at the end, and filed out in flabbergasted silence. I agree that Stephen Rea is magnificent.

Ok this wasn't the week to decide to have a few days off the booze. Came out of this slightly traumatised. The lady next to me said she probably needed a Guinness after that, think I needed something a lot stronger.
There's a number of similarities with Lieutenant of Inishmoor here, but where that uses humour to show the absurdity of terrorism, this uses humour to highlight mental health issues. I think members of the audience get this at different points during the show and you start to realise at different points that probably laughing isn't the right thing to do.
I was thinking on the way home as to whether this would actually happen in real life and initially thought no it wouldn't. Then realised that every so often you do here of these sorts of things happening in the news and it just disgusted me more.
Absolute cracking acting all round here, especially Stephen Rae.
Think this is a play that should be seen. Just you probably need a bit more pre knowledge than I had as I went into this not knowing at all what it was about.

Translations for Ulster, humour and extreme violence subverts the meaning of National identity, even more prescient now as it must be galling to be an Unionist as the ‘English’ ignorantly discard their allegiance and make the likelihood of an united Ireland more likely.
The Irish Pub scene is closer to what Ireland means to the ‘English’ and to some extent the British than any lingering, if it was ever there feeling of belonging to an United Kingdom made up of England, Scotland, Wales and NORTHERN IRELAND.
Living on the mainland, Northern Ireland was a place on the news, a sort of no mans land, even at the height of the troubles, Ireland was always Eire, a Country of Guinness and blarney.....
I have only appreciated being Welsh now that I live in England heightened in a day like today, living in Wales always considered myself as being British.
This appreciation of your nationality maybe can only be appreciated when you relinquish your nationality and could explain why there are so few plays about what it is to be English, only one that immediately comes to mind is Jerusalem, the time is ripe for this subject to be staged or maybe England cannot easily be defined as a unified Nation in the way of Wales, Scotland and Eire are by being not England.
Maybe overthinking, now where is my bara brith, Felinfoel and daffodil as I enjoy this win over England and prepare for St David’s Day next Friday.

Heck of a play this. Stephem Rea, what an actor. And what carnage at the end, a lot of the audience were stunned and because of so much comedy and laughter in the hour and 30 mins leading upto the finale, I dont think many of them saw it coming. I loved the ending however. Some of the comedy was imo slightly overdone and people seemed to want to laugh along hilariously, I just am not much out a laugh out loud kind of person, and then came the ending and whoosh! Looking back you had the funny lines and acting mixed in with some serious points here and there, but with people still falling about laughing over what had just been said. I dont know, it diluteted some of the points trying to be made, or maybe not and its just about having a rip roaring good time.
Anyway most enjoyable mainly, I was on the stage seating and very close to the goings on. A fun filled evening.

Saw this tonight, spent £25 in Lidl and home before ten. In a daze.
Going to have to think about this. Currently smack gobbbed. As above, its tempting to draw parallels with Translations, though in its way this feels more ambitious. Confident, accomplished writing deserting of recognition - what writing!
ouf. Some piece of work, this is.

I'm writing up some now *rather extensive* notes on this... one question I am stuck on > Where did Eric get the gun that he shot his wife with? May even go back for another £12 viewing on Monday ..

Wow, always thought it was a bit too edgy for TV, hope they don’t mess with it too much.
