Possibly a bit cynical, but do you think they've gone MT over celebrity casting as possible celebrity may overpower the Gary Barlow persona when marketing the show. Possibly, I think Gary Barlow is the driving force for this show but he's also written some cracking music!! I don't think they need celebs as they have him instead but, like I said before, if the hype of GB ever died down then they could easily bring in celebrities for a range of roles. The cast are smashing though! |

I thought you hadn't seen it before? How do you know they are great in their roles if you haven't even seen it? Because I have seen the cast perform in their roles. I didn't know you had seen the show in its try-out run love, why didn't you say something?! Tell me everything! |

I have doubt you have love to bs completely honest... whenever you have enjoyed a show that you have actually seen you write a huge rave review of it. But then you have been raving on about this before it has even begun so maybe you have snuck into rehearsals. Wouldn't surprise me.  |

I haven't "snuck" into any rehearsals but I have visited them. When I see the show I do right a review on it but isn't that what this board is for - sharing opinions? |

For anybody interested, there is a good deal on the official website for people over 65, you get £20 off top price tickets. Great deal as I know someone who is going to take advantage of the offer.
Also good group rates for over 6 people, which will be nice if different WIs around England use to visit the show.

The advance is good, this is true, and it is smart of them to open when they have with Oliviers (where it may grab a couple of nominations) and the Summer with tiurists when it extends. But once the Summer is over, it will need to shift tickets through to the winter and group sales are their best way of doing that. The current booking period is only until April so once it extends we will get a better indication. All of the Barlow fans will of seen it too by the time Summer is over so next will be to bash through the group sales and maybe get some offers going for older people/groups of 10+ for example. The other thing I do wonder, I don't quite know if this is going to be a show people go back too. It looks like fun and a laugh but if it is mainly older crowds and Barlow fans, will they go back more than a couple of times? The reasons shows run for a long time in London sometimes is because of younger people going back time and time again to support the show and the casts as there is something in the show that appeals to them. Does this show really have that "thing" that younger people will want to go back for? I guess the biggest aspect will be the score that appeals? I'm not too sure. And I am in the younger 18-24 demographic I am talking about and I don't know if this would be a show I would go back to again and again personally. |

Judging by the ATG site, an announcement with a July extension is inevitable. Although no bookable date links are on the calendar, the booking calendar now goes on till the end of July.

I just went on the website and noticed this too... they are being smart I think and following the likes of Kinky Boots and Book of Mormon it seems by adding 3 months at a time, a smart move coonsidering how successful these have been. |

I know it's very had to tell from one performance and especially when that is designed for television with Mr B, but from watching the Royal Variety I couldn't tell if they were musical theatres stars just plonked together. I hope, however, this will be a brilliant lesson in pro-MT casting to other producers and writers.

A friend of mine who runs a theatre school and choir books his trips a year in advance. The same is true for many groups.
Whilst I can see the logic in keeping things tight and hopefully demand high - it doesn't work for all markets.

Well that is the other issue, extending to July for example, pn the one hand can be smart, but on the other it could be shooting themselves in the foot for groups who can't get there in the time, with all the organisation involved etc. This is why touring a show like this can sometimes be the bettet thing, or having longer booking periods. I wonder if then this is a show that, because it could appeal so much to older people and coach parties, it would benifit more from longer booking periods rather than the likes of a Kinky Boots which is aimed much more at younger people who dont need much time to organise? |

Bear in mind that Groups booking periods are often longer than the general public booking - even with Book of Mormon there's usually a few extra months on sale for Groups |

I think it will be out on tour again in the blink of an eye with a load of Wendi Peters types showing us their Chelsea buns. Ladies of a certain age will enjoy it but they'll not be travelling to that there London when there's jam to be made and cakes to be iced. And have you seen the prices? £45.50 fir a show? It used to be three shillings at the Grand.... etc etc
