Because this is an important issue in today's society and should be discussed. If I'm passionate about an issue like this, no one has a right to tell me I'm wrong to feel that or to stop voicing an opinion on a DISCUSSION board? And there are plenty on here who were happily discussing these issues. It's not a cut and dry "it's messed up" or its not kinda thing, it's OK to have a back and fourth dialogue, that's fine. But no one is making any of this discussion personal except for you. I just don’t get the need to make such a huge deal about it. It is a piece of fluff entertainment. If someone chooses to place such emphasis on one small (appallingly acted) part of it and then choose it as their ‘hill to die on’ this week, I immediately see it as ‘everybody stop and look at me’ rather than a serious ‘this is a cause that is important to me’. Happy to be in the minority. x You do realise though that all of the comments made my me on this issue have either been direct responses to people in active conversation or part of a general discussion several members are having together? The only comment that isn't was the one about the lyrics and the only reason I mentioned it was because it hadn't been mentioned before which was a mistake on my part. I'm not about any hate toward this show, and I like to see new musicals thrive on the West End and I believe that other than this element of the show, it is a fun enough night out. So please don't in future make out like I am attention seeker or attempting to bring a show down when all I am doing is discussing an important topic with members of this board that I respect.

Can we just stop? He enjoyed the show, disliked an aspect of it and explained why.
By coming at DJ again and again, you are the one looking for attention imo.

Can't we get back to talking about the show please (or even the pies)?
There really is no need for all this unnecessary drama!

There's no reason to get snappy about it. That comment wasn't even aimed at you, it was a general comment because the lyrics of that song hadn't been mentioned on this thread. If it was aimed at you solely, I would have quoted you. I’m not really bothered who it is aimed at. I’m just fed up of your latest crusade to destroy a new musical for a bit of attention. Well that escalated fast.

I'm bowing out gracefully. I'm not justifying myself, or pandering to this.

This is a discussion board and Daniel Johnson is stating his opinion. It's an interesting take and one that deserves to be discussed. I say go boy to him...

Daniel did literally nothing wrong. It's an important aspect of the musical, and of many other shows, movies etc that we SHOULD be talking about more than we do because it's toxic and really freaking scary. Good on you for bringing it up, Daniel!!

The posts here today are another example of why this board is becoming more and more toxic.
This is a discussion forum. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. We may agree with it or we may not agree with it but we should be respectful to it. So many board members seem to have lost the ability to discuss theatre like adults.
At least Daniel was making comments about a show he had seen unlike other members making negative comments about shows they have yet to see.
To make a board member feel they can no longer post in a discussion is shameful. This board is not what it used to be and is no longer a community like we once were and that’s an awful shame.

Just read through.
Wow, some of you seriously need to grow up.
Daniel J. is not one of those people.

Things here appear to have calmed down now, but I'm going to say this anyway because it applies to many threads and many, many people. Too many posters forget that they're talking to actual other people and have an approach of "I must destroy the opposition at all costs". The point of the forum is discussion, and you don't have discussion if you don't listen to what the other person is saying. If a person or an opinion infuriates you then walk away for a while. If it's as stupid or offensive as you think it is then others will come to the same conclusion, the poster will be ignored, and the situation will resolve itself. If you're last poster standing it doesn't mean you've won. It means nobody can take any more of your crap. That doesn't make you a winner.

😔 I have just woken up with the mother of all red wine hangovers and a feeling of deep shame. Apologies to all that I may have offended last night. I was being incredibly childish whilst incredibly intoxicated. Please feel free to delete anything. I’ve tried but we’re all too keen on quoting each other. Apologies again.

Dry January is well and truly over then!
I must be an awful person because that certain storyline didn’t offend me ! But it sounds like it should have done.
Don’t ever feel the need to quiet your opinions Daniel. Your youthful enthusiasm is lovely and I wish I still had that!

I enjoyed the show, didn't love it. The film is so much better imho. I liked the songs and overall it was an enjoyable night but I won't rush to see it again.
Really don't see this lasting very long

Is the Waitress page going to become the next Wicked page?! No, it won't last long enough to have multiple cast changes.

Daniel is an excellent poster on here. No I don't agree with everything he says but I feel I can see his point of view and vice versa he'd respect mine. If some idiots have effectively driven him off here then it's just not on.

And in one of his posts he even used “have” correctly instead of “of”. All very well having a verbose contributor but let’s not drop our grammar standards people.
In’it.

Dear oh dear. I went to see this with an open mind, having heard and enjoyed the OBC cast recording, but I only managed to stay for Act 1.
The whole thing seemed under-rehearsed and underpowered to me. I'm not a huge KMP fan, but there's no doubt that she's got a great voice. Other than that, for me she's a charisma free zone and had no chemistry whatsoever with David Hunter (who was doing way too much gurning for my liking).
The actor playing Jenna's husband was singing way off key, I could only understand about a third of Laura Baldwin's dialogue and Ogie's 'comedy' number was finally what sent me sprinting out of the theatre at the interval.
I found it impossible to engage with any of the characters or the storyline and I have to say I felt the book was pretty thin. I don't think it's Diane Paulus's finest work either.
Maybe it all clicked in Act 2, but life is too short to sit through something you're really not enjoying at all.
It'll be interesting to see what the critics make of this and whether it finds an audience here in the UK.

I’ve been visiting family in the UK, and whenever I do I always go on a West End show frenzy, as I adore musical theatre. I got to see Waitress on Sat night and just loved it. Maybe it’s because I can relate to Jenna because of my own recent relationship history but I found the show so moving and uplifting at the same time. The cast was wonderful also. Special shout out from me for the 3 leading ladies. Katharine McPhee was unreal and her voice is just sublime! Felt like I was listening to a cd it was so clean and beautiful. I was blown away with She Used To Be Mine. Just a really moving and honest performance for me. I loved the sass of Marisha Wallace as Becky (last time I was in London I had seen her in Dreamgirls so it was a lovely surprise to see her in this now), and Laura Baldwin was a cutie Dawn. Great chem between the 3 of them. Liked the doctor also. My only real negative was Ogie. He was funny and got tons of laughs, but you know, a tiny bit of vocal singing ability would have been nice. His lack of any just really distracted me!! I can see this show may not be for everyone but it worked for me, and I’ll definitely be back. My sis who I went with has already bought tickets to go again this week 😄
