I hear its going to Martine McCutheon in her triumphant return to the West End....
FWIW, Martine was fantastic in My Fair Lady and if she was ever cast in another show (unlikely) then i'd go see her in it. She's an Olivier Award Winner and deservedly so.

I also think Danielle Hope could be a good choice for Jenna, and of course Sophie Isaacs as Dawn.

BroadwayWorld board seem to have word that it's McPhee opening it here. Sorry now see this has already been posted. I didn't think it had because most of the posts here are dreamcasting Jenna still. I mean it may not be true but I'm inclined to believe it when multiple people are saying that that's the case.

It makes sense since it's the most successful thing she's done in a while (no shade) and her "until we meet again" instagram caption was a little mysterious. I don't dislike her, but I definitely prefer every past Jenna (Jessie, Sara, Betsy) to her.

McPhee would at least allow me to add to my Smash cast collection (Megan earlier this year, Jeremy next weekend). I'm thrilled it's been announced and to be honest I'd be happy with anyone as long as it's not Sheridan Smith!

I loved this on broadway and loved Jessie as the lead. It’s not deep but it has a real old musical feel to it, ie a likeable simple story, some nice songs and one killer song. Some nice moments and very sweet - pun very much intended. Casting could make or break this but I’m very happy to be able to see this again and thankfully a LOT cheaper than it was on broadway. And just a no to either Sheridan smith or Alexandra Burke or any other “celeb” stunt casting. Would be lovely to see an actual cast of performers who are skilled at making it come to life, not an X factor contestant. There's zero reason to import yet another unnecessary American for this. There's a vast list of top UK female MT actresses 's who want this role, and many have proved their ability to sing it brilliantly in a host of cabarets and youtubes.
I wouldn't rule out everyone who started in x factor though - some of the top names in MT started there and are as capable as the other top people who didn't . The problem is people getting the job on the non logic of name casting, who are not on the notes, and are yet to learn how to act well enough
You just hope they don't it by who the US money knows about already, , or weigh twitter followers, but look at who is at the top of their game, who can sing it best, and act it most effectively.

I don't really see the point of her doing it. She has limited name recognition over here so i don't see it would help sales at all and there are several British actresses who would do just as good or better job.
Oh and having read that thread they also say that Jason Maraz or however you spell it is also coming over.
To me opening a show in London/The UK with two american leads, especially ones who played it in America, is a cheek. I didn't like it with Dreamgirls either but at least Amber Riley was an actual name to a lot of people and you could see the point. Those two names mean very little here other than the Smash link, but lets be real, anyone who knows Smash would be theatre fans interested in seeing it anyway.

I am genuinly so HAPPY it is coming to London. And I would be even more happy if Jessie Mueller comes over. She is the best Jenna of them all. Her Tony performance is out of this world. Plus she will be free since Carousel is closing.

Looks like it probably will be McPhee from the amount of sources saying so but I agree it does seem so odd. It’s not as if she’s the original star of the production coming over to reprise her acclaimed performance, and she didn’t exactly get unanimous glowing reviews. I don’t really think she’s famous over here at all? It’s not like Smash ever reached the level of something like Glee and it was cancelled after 2 seasons I believe? To add another British performer to the possibilities, I’d love Lucie Jones but maybe she’s still a few years too young.

Ugh, get someone British. No, get the best, most talented person for the job. I don't care where they come from.

I don't know if "reported on BroadwayWorld then repeated on here a few times" is really commensurate with "several different but equally reliable sources"...

There have been so many Brits opening/coming over to shows on Broadway. Most of them don't have name recognition in the US but they were all very talented and did very well. Not sure why it can't go both ways? Plus McPhee was a fantastic Jenna

Having seen both Sarah B and Katharine McPhee play the role, I would be happy to see either of them again...but equally don’t think either of them are famous enough over here for the producers to warrant that huge expense. I feel like getting Keala Settle back into the show would be far more successful in terms of ticket sales. But then again they sent Idina over to open Wicked despite her being relatively unknown (in terms of the wider population) in the U.K. then.

Idina Menzel came over on the fact that she won the Tony Award for the role and that was in all the publicity for the London production.
Alot of the British actresses mentioned so far are only known within theatre circles. Are there any British, household names, that could play the lead?

Lol for a left wing forum it's all got very right wing brexiteer all of a sudden. Personally I don't care which country they are from, although I'd have thought a tiny winner would be a better draw than someone off a minor show hardly anyone's seen

Personally I don't care which country they are from, although I'd have thought a tiny winner would be a better draw than someone off a minor show hardly anyone's seen Oh come now. That's just silly. The fact is the show has a terrific central leading lady role and people are just saying that if the producers are considering Katharine McPhee as the lead then there are several British actresses who are just as talented and just as well known as McPhee in Britain who could play the role and get a really meaty leading lady role. They aren't saying "British at any cost even if they're rubbish".

British jobs for British people was part of the brexit debate and move from the general chat forum to here and that's what people are saying. Completely forgetting the large amount of Brits that are working/have worked on broadway recently, also across America in various tours (king and I, Mary poppins for example). In some cases entire British casts have transferred to Broadway. it all just seems a bit hypocritical
