So, that rumour turned out to be true. Same source says they’re planning West Side Story too. Easter 2019  How many attempts at casting do we think they'll have.....? |

Do the orchestra sit outside...? Never seen a musical there. When I saw Sweet Charity 2yrs ago, the orchestra played within the theatre, with the drums based in a separate unit outside of the auditorium. |

It’s quite a small stage to be doing all that leaping about. I can see someone tripping over a bonkette and landing in the audience.

You joke Bear, but it’s a Granada co-production. It has been moved to the mean streets of Weatherfield where the Connors and the Alahans are deadly rivals. Maria (Connor...just) and (whatever Devs son is called)’s eyes meet at a school dance and things will never, NEVER be the same again. Jonathan Harvey is scripting based on a p*ssed up lunch idea in the Actors Centre kitchen. |

Giving this a bump now that Royal Exchange, Manchester have announced this for their Spring/Summer 2019 season. 6 APRIL 2019 - 25 MAY 2019 Reimagined for the round with new choreography by Aletta Collins (SWEET CHARITY) and orchestrations from Bernstein specialist Jason Carr, Sarah Frankcom’s production follows Royal Exchange hits such as SWEET CHARITY and GUYS AND DOLLS as it brings a whole new energy to a bona fide Broadway classic. I wonder if the new choreography thing is a trend everywhere?
There's also a production (amateur) advertised for the Wolverhampton Grand at the end of November. The main selling point on the advertising for that one is that the choreography is by Steve Elias from BBC2's Our Dancing Town.
It's already close to sold out, although the promo video they've just released on YouTube isn't convincing me to go.
Back on topic, will definitely try and get to the Royal Exchange production. It's a great score, they always do good productions and it will be a real treat to see the new presentation.

I first heard about it in August. I was a bit surprised then when the exchange announced it for earlier next year, i assumed that Curve got rights to do the only new production of it (at least nxt year)

I'm hijacking this thread to post my thoughts about the Madrid production, since I don't think it needs its own thread in the international section (after all, this production will only be seen by probably a couple of us, or maybe just me lol).
This was my first WSS experience. Yes, I admit I've never seen the film (shame on me). I knew the story and who died though.
I was in the front row and I must say the band was distracting, and not only because one of the violinists was hot af. They were disrespectful. The pit is not too deep and you could see them eating and passing peanuts around, high-fiveing each other after the big numbers, using their phones...
Anyway, loved the show. I knew it was intense but wasn't expecting it to be THAT intense! The cast is really good, loved Tony and Anita (can't remember their names). Talia del Val as Maria is sensational but, um, she's like so white, whiter than an albino. Everytime it was mentioned she was puertorriqueña my eyes were rolling like crazy. The Sierra Boggess syndrome is expanding.
When Tony is killed, the audience laughed! What the actual frock? Yes, they were laughing cause the gunshot scared the hell out of them, but um, someone died you know? It's the most dramatic scene in the whole show. You could notice some cast members were astonished!
