A very, VERY, bland recording. It lacked so much oomph, even the backing singers sounded bored. I'll give her the benefit of the doubt and wait to hear her live.
I don't like the backing singers joining in at the end either.
I always doubted her voice would suit the songs but we'll see.

I wish they'd have done it earlier with the powerhouse vocals of either Heather of Bevlar.

Stepping into the shoes of Patina and Cynthia, those are BIG to fill. That said, she sounds good - although the key is too low for the song!
Ill reserve judgement - she didnt fill the shoes of Heather and Bev in Bodyguard well enough so we'll see

Just had a listen to this and I thought it was a big let down!
Ive seen the show twice, Raven's second show and then Cynthia a few weeks later and both had so much fun with the song. It felt like Alex was singing mediocre baby or half hearted baby, I really hope she proves me wrong on tour though. Plenty of time for improvement so I'm hopeful at least! Love this song and the show!

AB singing Fabulous, Baby just sounded flat. It's a song that is meant to be Deloris' "middle finger to my haters" song. Her "The Wizard and I" so to speak. It should be full of pizzazz and sparkle.
That version was as fabulous as a yawn or a verruca. Sorry not sorry. I really do rate Alexandra as an artist, I own all her music. But I don't think she's leading lady material.

Well i mean it's a recording, it's not even for a cast recording. It is just for promo purposes and before rehearsals have even began for the show and she's learned her role. It's her just singing it, it's not be her performing it. I imagine in the show itself it will be totally different.

I've got every single cast recording of Sister Act and have never heard a less inspiring version. This sounds like lift Muzak. This is meant to be Deloris telling the world her worth/purpose. Maybe this is bad direction by the one recording her or it's just the fact the key is different.
I shan't be paying as much or as many times to see this show unless she is completely different on stage.

How many of those cast recordings were out before rehearsals even began and the person was playing the role?

Well Patina's recording's of Raise Your Voice and Take Me To Heaven were, I think, although she had understudied the role in the past. However, I think most people could have given it more oomph than that recording with no rehearsal. As I said, maybe she was directed to sing it like that so she's done what she's told.
As I said previously, I will give her the benefit of the doubt when seeing the show, but if they change the keys/add backing singers where unnecessary for more of the songs, I won't be happy.

It's a fair point, I understand, but they've released this for the public to consume as a promo for the show, and whilst many who listen to Elaine Paige may know that this has been recorded before rehearsals have begun, those who stumble across it on the website (for instance) may have no idea - and the public has not been informed otherwise - so I'd say it's fair game for criticism if this is what they're promoting the show with!

It's bound to be different in the show. I think she was simply singing the song in that recording, she wasn't singing 'as' Deloris. The key will be lower for all the songs though, just as they are in The Bodyguard for her.

Genuine question. They lowered the keys for her in The Bodyguard, but do her understudies/alternates have to sing it in the same key or in the original? I know this would be a pain for the band but just curious?

Any bets on Sam Bailey as Mother Superior, taking her age down a few years? Wouldn't she still be in Chicago and then pantomime? I hope not anyway. What's so bad about X Factor people? Most of the time they're alright! Wonder when it'll be announced, funny that Craig has cast people from the show that always tries to beat Strictly!!

My guess would be Rachel Adedeji if she isn't busy with Hollyoaks (I don't know if her character in that is permanent, as I don't follow). That way she could be ensemble or alternate Deloris? Andy the bin man maybe? Or Reggie and Bollie? So many talents to choose from! I could potentially see Diana Vickers as Sister Mary Robert though. #TescoMaryforMotherSuperior

I was thinking Mary Byrne as Mother Superior.
Just call it X Factor sings Sister Act. My hope for this tour is waning.

X Factor people can be good. Just look at Brenda Edwards...Matt Cardle in Memphis...Diana Vickers has been fine in her roles. It doesn't have to be a bad thing.
