Natalie has been off all week as she is currently getting physio for her injured leg/knee. Hopefully she is back as the Hatter next week.
As for leaving the show mid-song, I do have to agree with others and say it's disrespectful and rude, not just to the audience but to the performers too. Why disrupt the rest of the audience around you who might actually be enjoying the show just because you don't have the patience to wait until the interval - or at the very least an appropriate scene change - to leave?

I agree, incredibly rude to leave mid-act. Have the respect of the performers and those around you to leave at the interval. I have only been tempted to leave at interval once, and that was midway through Stephen Ward. I didn't leave, and stuck out Act II as well, but I had a lovely 10 minute nap before interval haha.

If I have paid a substantial amount of my hard earned £ and the production is shoddy, the performances are sub-par or I am not happy with it I leave. Life is too short to be miserable, and to have to pay for the priviledge is even worse. Obvio everything is subjective, and I only ever buy aisle seats usually anyway, but respect is a two way street. If the cast or producers don't respect me enough to put on a good show I'm off! 😳

You obviously haven't been inside the Liverpool Empire! And what if you are sitting on the end of a row? Granted if in a small theatre and you are stuck in the middle of a row but I wasn't. Trust me, even in theatres the size of the Empire, it is entirely noticeable from the stage and around the auditorium as people walk up and out the aisles. Im glad you waited to leave until the interval, but personally, even though I didn't enjoy the production the experience was tainted by various people (mid row) forcing other people to stand up as they pushed their way out of the rows and back up the aisles. It shows a blatant disregard to the other patrons and performers and a lack of respect, especially when its done mid song etc. At the very worst people should leave it until an appropriate scene change if they really feel they can not suffer through to the interval. I really do not think you have performed on the Liverpool Empire stage. I have 5 times. It is bigger than the Palladium and Dominium and you cannot see the audience. You can almost hardly see the conductor - it's like performing in space, a large black open cosmos. Anyway I didn't leave mid show I left at the interval, but had I wanted to leave during the show sat at the very extreme far right row E 4 & 5 no one would have cared. That was my point. |

Saw it this week. Stalls was less than 75% full and upper two levels closed, but it's a big theatre. I thought it was a fun, enjoyable show not to be taken seriously and if you can get a cheap ticket it's worth going to. The book was awful, like a pantomime (but not funny) and horrifically cheesy, to the point where there was no way the cast could deliver some of the lines without sounding ridiculous. But I was impressed with the score, sets and cast. Kerry Ellis did keep tucking her hair behind her ears. She also needs a longer shirt in Act 1 because she spent a lot of time trying to stop it lifting up and showing her stomach. But her voice was incredible and she got huge applause on some of her money notes. Michelle Pentecost as Mad Hatter was great, would have liked to see Natalie McQueen too as i've heard good things. And I was presently surprised by Wendy Peters. She really has a great voice and I'd love to see her take on more theatre roles.

If ever they did a musical about Ethel Merman - Wendi Peters would be a nap for the role!
She was the only good thing about this production.

Anyone know if Natalie is back yet? saw the show in Edinburgh in January and fancy seeing it again, particularly to see Rachael and Natalie

I saw Wonderland this afternoon and Natalie was still not back in the production and the second cover for the Mad Hatter, Francesca Lara Gordon was on. Francesca was really good but I do prefer Natalie in the role. Natalie has torn the cartilage in her knee and has been off for almost three weeks already so there's some uncertainty about when she will be back in the show.

I saw Wonderland this past week in Glasgow and I'm really surprised, and disappointed, by how much it's changed since Broadway. Granted, the plot wasn't the strongest on Broadway but at least it semi-connected to the original Alice In Wonderland and had a great end message about mental health but this new plot just seems pointless and contrived.
In the new version Alice has no real reason to go on this journey, other than to get over a man, where as before she had to rescue her daughter, deal with her mother's illness and and confront childhood trauma. Adding Ellie and Jack into the initial journey into Wonderland wasn't a great idea as it just seemed like they were being given something to do. The new songs weren't anything to write home about and the plot involving the Mad Hatter not really being evil was the biggest shock - it made the best song in the whole show, I Will Prevail, make absolutely no sense. And I miss the original Cheshire Cat song so much - it's one of my treadmill songs at the gym.
I'm pretty disappointed the show has changed so much. I'm pleased the show had a life outside of the failed Broadway production but the show on tour is essentially a whole new show.

I saw it twice this week and thank god Natalie came back later on in the week, she makes the role of the Mad Hatter a lot better than Francesca.
Francesca wasn't bad but I found Natalie's acting and her voice a few levels above Francesca.
I would really have loved to have seen Kerry but Rachel has an excellent voice so I'm not too disappointed.

Shame as I saw it in Milton Keynes, and while it was nowhere near a 'great' show I still really enjoyed it. Hadn't heard much of it before and some of the songs were really catchy. Natalie McQueen also blew me away. Kerry Ellis was great as normal, even if I did want to climb on stage and put her hair in some kind of enormous clip to stop her tucking it behind her ear every 30 seconds!

Its sad, but I'm glad people have started taking a stance against this. I know so many people (including myself) who have holes in their bank accounts because producers kept running a show and telling us that money was coming. Friends of mine have gone bankrupt because of it. This is not a freak occurrence (there is another show on the road who is reportedly several months behind on payments...) and needs to stop.

I understand a lead had to stand on the stage at vocal warm up and pproclaim that no cast would go on unless they were paid there and then.
