Just booked tickets for my boyfriend and I for September 8th. Very excited, as I haven't seen the show since September of 2018!

Perfect cast wise, based solely on those I’ve seen live, for me it’d be Idina Menzel, Gina Beck, Adam Garcia, Nigel Planer. Interesting that three of those were in the original cast - and I’ve seen most casts since! I didn’t like Khadime at all, but loved her in The Book of Mormon. When I saw Wicked a cast or two ago, I thought it was in really bad shape and looked very tired. Speaking of tired, the actress playing Galinda appeared to be suffering quite badly with asthma or something, she was absolutely gasping for air during “Popular” in particular. Blown notes all over the place, stiff acting. I was thinking to myself “they need to cast a pretty soprano aged 20’s to 40’s. It’s not exactly the toughest remit in the world, is it? There were four girls who could play the part waiting tables in the restaurant before the show! Is this really the best they could find in the whole world?”. Gina Beck on the other hand is outstandingly wonderful in absolutely everything I’ve ever seen her do. My favourite Cosette, my favourite Galinda, my favourite Christine. I would genuinely say she is this country’s very best. Gina is one of the only performers I would go and see in literally anything. My favourite cast I have seen so far live has to be Alice Fearn and Maria Coyne (s/b). The Elphaba's I have seen in london: Alexia Khadime (first), Emma Hatton, Alice Fearn (most seen Elphaba). The Glindas I have seen in london: Dianne Pilkington (first), Maria Coyne (s/b), Samantha Thomas (u/s), Savannah Stevenson & Sophie Evans. Alexia Khadime was my first, I remember just being so confused why her voice sounded like that (I know now she was imitating Margaret Hamilton from the original) and I remember finding the first act long and boring until DG and being gobsmacked at 13yrs old. Emma Hatton just bored me tbh. Dianne was a perfect first Glinda for me but my favourite has to be Maria who I saw 3 times as standby and I hope one day she goes back as lead. Wish I saw her as Christine. I want to see Lucie badly but she is like never on and I don't believe she has done a full week of shows yet (correct me if I am wrong).

Controversially, my favourite Elphaba and Glinda were the worlds very first amateur pair who started in CLOC’s production of Wicked at the National Theatre in Melbourne.
O can’t remember their names but they were completely unique and owned their roles in ways I’ve never seen others do who have played the roles, and were far superior to the other two pairings I saw (Willemijn/Savannah and Gemma/Lucy)
The fact those row women played those roles for two weeks, uniquely and professionally, and still did their day jobs as well - blows my mind. They should have been professional.

I have seen the following
Elphaba: Alice Fearn x3 Amy Ross x3 Laura Pick x3 Lucie Jones x2 Laura Harrison x1
Glinda: Sophie Evans x5 Helen Woolf x6 Samantha Thomas x1
The Alice and Sophie pairing will always be special for me as they were my first. For most of my "crazy" phase Amy and Helen were my favourites, but now I adore Lucie and Sam, while Lucie and Helen were lovely together too. It's interesting how preferences tend to evolve over time.

Elphaba: Alice Fearn x 5 Nikki Bentley (Tour) x1 Ashleigh Gray (Tour) x 1 Emma Hatton x 1 Jennifer DiNoia (Broadway) x 1 Alexia Khadime (first) x 1 Glinda: Dianne Pilkington (first) x 1 Helen Woolf (Tour) x 1 Emily Tierney (Tour) x 1 Savannah Stevenson x 1 Brittney Johnson (Broadway) x 1 Samantha Thomas (u/s) x 1 Maria Coyne (s/b) x 2 Sophie Evans x 2 I did like Savannah a lot and from videos I have seen online of Gina, I would say they are quite similar. Plus Samantha Thomas was great but Maria Coyne is still my all time favourite even though Dianne was for a long time before that. I would really love to see Sierra Boggess take the role.

I'm seeing this tonight and my ticket says my allotted entry time is half 6, an hour before curtain up! Do I really need to arrive so early? I'm going by myself so don't really want to be sat in my seat for ages before it actually starts 😂

It is never actually enforced.

It is never actually enforced. Thanks! Some thoughts after seeing it (which was my first time): - I don't think I agree with all the criticism about Ryan Reid, I thought he was pretty good. Not amazing, sure, but not bad either. - Lucie Jones killed it. Listening to her Defying Gravity is worth the ticket price alone. What a voice!! - I had one of the front row seats, which sell for £29.50. Would really recommend these seats as I had a fantastic view with loads of legroom, only minor things being the ensemble sometimes blocking my view, and not realising that the dragon at the top of the page was doing something! - More of a comment on the musical itself than the performance, but is it just me or was everything wrapped up way too neatly and easily at the end? Glinda went to Elphaba asking her to stop all this and let Dorothy go, Elphaba agreed and they made up and she somehow faked her death, then Glinda is somehow able to get Madame Morrible put in prison and the Wizard deposed, and that's it? Also if Fiyero is the scarecrow in this then why would he side with Dorothy?

I'm not upset about the casting of Glinda and Elphie for the movie. I actually like it.

There was a witch switch this evening, Amy Webb was Elphaba and was replaced mid show. Does anyone knows what happened?

Wow. So judging by tweets I’ve seen, Lucie Jones has covid so Amy Webb was on for Elphaba and Laura Harrison was on for Nessarose. They stopped the show during act one and Laura had to switch from Nessa to Elphaba.
Not sure what happened to Amy Webb. She doesn’t seem to be the most reliable standby.

And Grace Chapman, who left the show a few days ago, was back as Nessarose standby and had to go on as Laura Harrison (who was on as Nessarose) switched to play Elphaba!

I don’t think she’s unreliable, it’s just that Lucie misses a lot of shows (obviously not saying she should be going on right now with covid but her attendance in general is patchy) so Amy goes on more than you’d expect a standby to and so naturally Laura gets more shows than the 2nd cover would normally get as well.

Amy does seem quite unreliable though, I think she rarely manages to cover a full stretch for Lucie, whether it be a week or just a two show day. Great for Laura getting lots of shows but I don't know if I've seen a lead/standby pair so consistently absent as Lucie and Amy. Carina also seems off more often than she's on. Sure someone will come along and tell me it's none of my business but I follow the West end understudies twitter account and it's nonstop absence.

Lucie has clarified on her socials ‘Wicked’s 5 day enforced absence for anyone with C19 in the building. It must be a logistical nightmare when just one person tests positive getting everyone tested & waiting for results. You’d hope that supposed theatre lovers would be more tolerant and remember the eighteen months of no theatre at all, before moaning about absence. Booked holidays + illness might look like someone swinging the lead but if you looked at it on a years calendar you’d see it looks just like you or I’s schedule. Life happens.

Not saying anyone is right or wrong, but I remember on the tour, to me, it seemed Amy Webb went on a lot as the Elphaba understudy. She never missed any of these shows as Amy Goodwin never got her Elphaba debut.
I suppose we are in very uncertain times still thanks to Covid and almost every show is suffering some sort of casting nightmare at times with previous cast members being drafted back in at short notice etc.

Be fair now, you've moaned about regular cast absence before, I'm sure we all have, no supposed theatre lovers necessary. Anyway, I don't actually mind in the slightest how often either one is off, it means I've been able to catch Laura on with reasonable ease. I just notice it is all.

(I’m looking at you Miriam! 🤣) but I feel that lots has changed. The powers that be do appear to be looking after Lucie at least, so that we get one and two day absences rather than a knackered voice and never working again. Again, I would recommend that anyone doubting the voracity of singing Elphaba, read ‘Unnaturally Green’ by Felicia Ricci.
