Completely agree, the boat has mostly sailed with me for Wicked but Lucie looked like she was having the time of her life and really sold everything with an incredible vocal ... Completely. She also really showed how a lead can/should work a crowd

We went to see wicked recently for the sister in laws birthday and I must admit I found it a bit flat. Sound was a bit all over the place including some low freq feedback which for a show like wicked i expected better.

Anyone know what is up with Lucie? She misses so many shows.
My first love is Eurovision and I'm a huge Lucie fan because of that primarily. My second love, of course, is musicals. However, I really dislike Wicked... it just doesn't click with me at all.
We booked a few months back, but Lucie was off. We want to book again to see Lucie, but she seems to miss several random shows a week since the start of her run as Elphaba. Obviously since I'm not a huge fan of Wicked, I don't want to keep booking to see the understudy/standby. What are my best chances as actually being able to see Lucie?!

Lucie was off sick with a chest infection, which developed into asthma.
She was back on for the matinee today.
If you are only booking to see Lucie and you're not a fan of Wicked, you really shouldn't be going to see the show at all.

I imagine that theatres welcome all ticket sales, especially at the moment.

As others have said, people can go and see the show for whatever reason they like. I too only went back as I wanted to see Lucie (who elevated the material far beyond its tired hackneyed origins). Maybe don’t police other peoples thoughts and stick to spreading information & positivity?

As others have already said - I'm not sure why you feel the need to gate-keep the show? Lucie is honestly the only reason I'd see Wicked at the moment. It's way past its sell by date in my opinion.

This is not just aimed at deej4life, I've seen similar in lots of similar threads and on social media, but why people are off shows really is not anyone's concern. I also think the details of why they are off really should not be put in a public forum unless the performer themselves or the show has posted it on their social media etc. It may come as a surprise to some people but fans really are not entitled to know absolutely everything that is going on at a show and the lives of those in it.

Lucie did in fact post publicly on her social media that she was absent due to a chest infection that developed into asthma. Another user asked, all I did was convey what was already public information posted by Lucie herself. And to clarify, I agree completely that fans are not entitled to know everything that is going on at a show. I have stressed this many times. As for the responses to my comment on attending a show only to see a particular performer... if you are only going to see Lucie, you could end up being disappointed if she's not on. If you're only going for one person, and you don't actually like the show, why go? It's not gate keeping in the slightest, it's just being practical. If you don't like something, think it's "past its sell by date" or has "tired hackneyed origins" etc., why spend £50+ on it? I don't see the point in going to see a show if these are the kind of opinions you have on it. Maybe some people should consider not policing my speech too, eh?

Posts removed. Let’s move the conversation on?
They reached 6000 performances at the AV last week. Given the film is in production (they’ve started filming now, is that right?) I suppose we can expect it to be gracing the stage for some time to come. Will it reach 10,000 perfs?

Please can anyone help with a phone number for customer services.
I booked direct - not through ATG - but the number for Ingresso is disconnecting

I reckon they'll make it to the 20th anniversary and then close. I do think the overall production needs a bit of a refresh as it's been 15 years with no changes at all and with new shows with brilliant tech such as &J and BTTF out there it's really made the show feel a little tired for me.

Lion King has done more than 20 and is fine.
With the eventual release of the movie, this ain't going anywhere

So we find ourselves exactly back where we started really. The only thing that brings a new energy to this show is new performers, as the rest of it is over familiar to a large percentage of regular theatregoers.

I don't see Wicked closing any time soon. The musical is seeing great success on Broadway and the US national tour (which is nearly always sold out each performance).
Definitely updates are needed in London for sound design, but I think the lighting, costumes and stage pieces are still very fresh and exciting!
With any show, a new cast will always breathe new life in. As stated by other users, Lucie has definitely brought in a larger crowd as of late.
I think Wicked is very safe and with a few small adjustments will thrive for many years to come!

The idea that anything about Wicked on the West End is currently fresh or exciting is laughable to me. Having seen it earlier this year for the first time in years just because I wanted to see Lucie (fancy that!), I can’t remember the last time I saw something so obviously stale and past it’s sell by date. Nothing about it really impresses or wows anymore. Whilst it continues to make money nothing will change unfortunately, but a refresh would do the show wonders!

if anything the book is not as bad as people make it out to be, it’s just ultimately up to the show’s actors to deliver lines and their characters well.. some in Wicked sadly just play it surface level 🤷🏻♂️

Nothing about it really impresses or wows anymore. Whilst it continues to make money nothing will change unfortunately, but a refresh would do the show wonders! I see ‘refresh’ mentioned a fair amount, so besides the DG lift and casting .. what needs to be changed ?? … As I wrote on here after I saw it earlier this year, the second half has painfully dull stretches (scenes with the Wizard in particular) and the whole thing hangs around No Good Deed and For Good. With the movie being split in two, new songs seem inevitable and maybe paves the way for them being included (if they’re any good!) in future productions Re-stage/choreograph some of the numbers. I get that As Long As You’re Mine is meant to be an intimate moment but it’s just a bit dull to watch - especially when the Fiyero isn’t up to much vocally so don’t have that to focus on. One Short Day is a solid number and works well, but I don’t think the staging does a particularly convincing job of making me believe the fantasy that it’s a city you know? It’s just a large ensemble twirling about stage with a couple of them dressed as street vendors. New costumes as well! I may be wrong here but I didn’t think anything any of the non-ensemble cast wore had changed since I last saw it 7 years ago? All these things would take significant investment from producers and I understand the logic of not wanting to mess with a show that is still doing well enough, why risk it? It’s just not very exciting for audiences.

Glinda’s entrance with the bubbles. Even when I was into it I didn’t really understand what that was supposed to be and it looks so clunky. Sharpen it up. And that effing hideous bit in Emerald City where those two weird “things” come out and dance about. I don’t think anyone would miss that.

Whereas I come at it as if “what if I was seeing it for the first time?”. Yes the auditorium & stage look quite magnificent on entrance, and Glinda’s bubble is a large enough set piece to give the wow factor. But after that its just frothy nothingness until ‘Defying Gravity’ punctuated by some of the dullest book scenes currently on the London stage. Only the ‘magic’ bit breaks up the flat line. “I’m Not That Girl” is a nice song, but I much prefer Glindas version in act two…which at least has a punchy opener and some book scenes with consequence. It is a slog punctuated only by ‘No Good Deed’ to get to ‘For Good’ & the reprise. ‘Don’t even’ with the Wizard. Gary Wilmott is the first person I have ever seen play that role with any sort of agency or emotional arc, I suspect because it does not exist on paper. Before my last visit, I could have very easily done without the Wizard at all, but GW gave me hope that it can be done. I find ‘Wicked Witch of the East’ always thrills me the most; I think because of its relative unfamiliarity. Nessarose would be a juicy part if given maybe one more decent book scene, and a duet with her sister but even she is thrown away. Fiyero can be an excellent supporting lead if cast well, but there have been some disasters there too. I’m not sure Mr Thompsett can be beaten tbh.
It needs bringing out into the auditorium more, more ‘magic’ adding (its about witches ffs!!!) and the diabolical sound system sorting out once and for all. It is plenty long enough so doesn’t necessarily needs songs adding, but replacing perhaps. ‘A Sentimental Man’ and the first ‘I’m Not That Girl’ can both do one for me….if it were up to me.
