People love to dramatise though. It is getting a little tiresome to see which board members are clearly performers/creatives etc who like every ‘poor me’ post defending peoples work ethic, right to an alternate, need to keep in tip top shape etc. For every high profile performer who has had issues (ie documented online), there are a hundred who don’t broadcast or have broadcast their impeccable attendance and skill every night. It is their job to perform as much as it is their job to keep fit and well enough to do it. If they choose to burn the candle at both ends or do something that could potentially jeopardise their ‘instrument’, they should be held to account by both their employer and the audience that misses them. COVID has really put a spanner in the works because it requires the whole company of individuals to make sacrifices to keep the company going. Yes people do love to dramatise. The Cabaret thread is proof of that. She'll never work again!! *rolls eyes* Be fair, some people have said that she won’t get another musical. That’s a long stretch from “never work again”.

If that's the case I'd better change my business cards. And yes even in this day and age we still use business cards lol In short; because it’s their job that THEY chose to do. Nobody changed its description while they weren’t looking.

That’s a long stretch from “never work again”. Seriously? Its called hyperbole... Of all the things people have written and have never been corrected on, this is what you have something to say about?? "She'll never work in a musical again!!" Better? It still sounds as ridiculous as when they first said it. Poster J - i didnt see your post above when i wrote this!

I’d booked tonight to see the new cast after they have settled in a bit. A brand new Elphie is a good treat instead!

Hopefully I get to the theatre in time to grab a photo of the cast board!

Hi everyone! First ever post here.
Saw Wicked last November as my 1st ever west end show, sat front row for the 30 quid tickets, absolutely magical.
Went again in Feb because of the 15 quid tickets, at the back of the middle level of the circle.
Pros/cons of both shows.
Well the audience was terrible for both. Sadly Wicked is one of those shows that attracts a more mainstream theatre fan hence the etiquette generally being below par. Plus there's always mum's explaining the plot to little girls which I find ridiculous. Why bring them if they don't know what's going on.
Laura and Lucie were both incredible, can't pick between them. Lucie's NGD was better though.
Helen and Sophie again both amazing but Helen definitely edges it. I laughed so much more second time round with her acting.
Alastair a way stronger Fiyero. Ryan was very bad. Didn't even hit some of the falsettos in ALAYM. How did he get the part.
We had understudy Boq Nick Len first time and I enjoyed his performance way more. Much more character, and better acting.
Andy Hockley a better wizard. Stronger singer.
A question for more committed fans please - does the west end band still have live strings? Or are they all synthesised now? Only I can never pick them out and I do think the score sounds thin at time.

Her smile at the end of the wizard and I was heartwarming too. She couldn’t see my grin behind my mask at the end of defying gravity but she may well have heard my voice crack when I whooped at the end!

Laura Harrison is on as Elphaba for the matinee performance today (30th March, 2022).

I went to see this tonight for the first time since the current cast debut, not realising that Laura Harrison was on as Elphaba. I didn't check the board when I went in as I was in a rush, so when the Elphaba came out I just assumed it was Lucie, as her and Laura actually look almost identical when greened up in my opinion.
It quickly dawned on me though that it wasn't Lucie when not a single audience member made a peep when she first appeared, I felt very awkward by the steely silence! I've seen Lucie twice now (her first two performances) and each time the audience clapped when she first appeared, as they did for Laura Pick every time I seen her too. Maybe I'm jumping to conclusions and it wasn't anything to do with it not being Lucie, but I feel it's pretty cruel if so. There seemed to be a lot of school and college groups in tonight for some reason, so maybe that had something to do with it?
I'm really happy to say though that Laura was absolutely wonderful and she soon got a rapturous applause after The Wizard and I and many more throughout. There were loads of people moaning about Lucie not being on at the interval and on the way out unfortunately...but I suppose it's unavoidable. Helen Woolf was incredible as always, she's always the highlight for me any time she's on.
I also really enjoyed Joe Thompson-Oubari as Boq - it's not a character I care for, but he did well.
Lastly...I hate to say it but I feel that Ryan Reid has somehow gotten even worse than when I previously seen him. I really don't like to speak about actors like this, but he's absolutely awful in the role and I felt uncomfortable at times watching him struggle through (As I did the first time). I was hoping he would ease into the role, but I can't see it at this point.

In my 60ish times seeing the show, mid-week shows rarely get an entrance applause. It’s only usually if it’s super full and/or if there are fans in.

I've only ever seen the show mid-week and always had the applause for Elphie's debut - You've seen the show 10x more than I have though so I don't doubt you, maybe I just had lucky nights!

“I’d highly recommend reading Unnaturally Green by Felicia Ricci, it’s her account of being an Elphaba standby. It goes into great detail about the casting and rehearsal process and then what it’s like to actually be a standby and be called up in the middle of a performance. “
I’m halfway through this book and its a really entertaining read. It (not deliberately) highlights the fact that not all actors take themselves or their job too seriously. It is just that; a job.

Quite honestly the only times where I've seen the show and an Elphaba has gotten entrance applause have been cast changes and other special performances, eg first night back after covid.
More recently, when I saw Lucie, three of her fans cheered and no one else joined in which was very embarrassing to watch from a few rows away.

Likewise, it's very rare for an Elphaba to get entrance applause. I've only experienced it during big performances like cast change/tour closing.

I'm glad to hear that this is common and not because Laura was on, she did amazingly well so the thought of people being snide towards her out of disappointment really irked me.
I've seen Lucie twice now so I was really happy to have her, it was a nice surprise!
Ironically the majority school groups audience last night was actually one of the best behaved I've been in for Wicked, I think their teacher had them on a tight lead! For once I had no one next to me talking throughout or eating crisps like it was their first meal in a year - what a treat!

Does anyone know if there's a particular Elphaba/Glinda schedule over the Easter holidays? I'm assuming there will be extra shows.

Group rates must be very attractive atm, as when we went in Feb the stalls were practically full of school and youth groups. (All well behaved).

I was thinking the same as there were about three different school groups in the stalls, as well as what looked like an older college class group of probably theatre students. The last time I seen the show on Lucies second night there were a group of three in the row in front of me who kept getting up at 10 minute intervals for the toilet separately, so it was like a constant stream of people having to get up out of their seats and so distracting to everyone. The people at the end of their row complained during the interval and they were asked to leave before act 2, so at least staff care when informed.
