I'm not saying it doesn't exist, I'm asking you to help us understand. But if you can't be bothered then let's just move on.

fiyerorocher I'm a woman who does not identify as heterosexual and I don't see any queer subtext in the musical. So please do explain how either gender or sexuality make comments on this thread any more or less valid as I'm confused. Interpretation and subtext are two different things. The former is opinion (which anyone is entitled to hold as they wish), the latter is essentially an intentional creative decision on the part of creatives and either exists or doesn't.

Amy Webb is on as Elphaba for both shows today, Charli Baptie is on as Glinda (16th March, 2022).

Lucie’s attendance really isn’t great to be honest. Makes me understand more now why for the past five years they’ve been promoting standbys and having past Elphabas back, it takes a long time to build up the stamina for the role. I wish they’d just set an alternate schedule and announce it in advance because I’ve missed her twice now.

I respectfully disagree There is acres of reading on subtext ; even if you just started with Pinter. Nowhere does he condone or approve ‘things that fit just because you want them to’. That is just interpretation. There are the very outer factors of: Wicked being a musical ✔️ Wicked has strong female protagonists that are strongly bonded by a shared experience ✔️ It strongly references The Wizard of Oz which starred Judy Garland (who lots of gay people like). ✔️ Oz’s colour and the positive outlook of its inhabitants could be considered camp. It is intellectually narrow so gets a ✔️but the conflict doesn’t have any real victims (apart from the animals & Nessarose) so you wonder why anyone would take it so seriously? So if it is anything I’d say it was just camp and shallow as a puddle. The story is so feintly drawn in the first place that there really is no room for subtext.

I totally agree an alternate would make sense for such a demanderating role.

I guess it’s probably up to the powers that be over in the states to actually grant it? But considering the amount of shows that have alternates when it’s questionable if they’re even needed (Cinderella anyone?) it’s crazy at this point that Wicked won’t implement it.
Lindsay Pearce had actually been doing 6-7 shows a week over on Broadway for the past few months after coming back from an injury I believe, so why not just make it full time!

Apart from making it trickier to see your favourite combination I don’t see why more shows don’t do a job share. Especially where there are already standbys.

I do feel bad for Lucie Jones that it hasn't worked out, by all accounts this was meant to be a very special time for her and it has sadly turned into a bit of a disaster. I wonder if she will stay for the rest of the contract?

Isn't Lucie on holiday? I swear I saw her post on Instagram that she'd be away from the show for a couple of days.

Isn't Lucie on holiday? I swear I saw her post on Instagram that she'd be away from the show for a couple of days. She did say “see you in a few days” but I think she just meant she wouldn’t be active on insta for a few days. I did interpret it as that at first and so thought I wouldn’t book for Tuesday and see if she was on. She was and so I booked for this afternoon and then of course she was off again!

No way her and Helen would both be allowed off the same day.
Trouble is the official website still shows the holiday dates as tbc even though they are all in.

I just want to chime in and add my voice highlighting that Elphaba is a mammoth role, and I don't judge any lead who takes off shows regularly.
The role really should have an alternate!

Is it a mammoth role though? I know she’s on stage a lot but the singing..it’s DG and NGD and that’s about it for the challenges. Once in each act. Eva Peron in Evita.. that’s a mammoth role.
Happy to be told I’m completely wrong!

Happy to be told I’m completely wrong! Plus the Wizard and I running straight into What Is This Feeling without a break. And As Long as You're Mine and For Good. It's the overall stamina when taken together with the amount of time spent onstage that is a huge requirement I think.

Was the ‘she is no great shakes’ comment really necessary? Just let people be excited for things. No need to try and sh*t on their cornflakes.

I saw Wicked last night for the first time in about 15 years. I actually thought I was watching Lucie Jones so was surprised to find out later it wasn't her. 😂 Amy Webb was excellent.
It's not a favourite of mine but enjoyed it enough on a £20 second row ticket thanks to an O2 Priority deal.
Fiyero was a weak link for me - is he supposed to be some kind of heartthrob? He came across as a bit of a wet lettuce.

Also to add - it didn't seem that busy in there for a Thursday evening. I'd say probably the back third of the stalls was empty.

At the moment Wicked is not selling tickets in the back section of the stalls or the back section of the circle.
I believe Wicked are aware that they won't fill the capacity for a majority of performances, so certain sections are no longer being sold!
