Since you asked...I recently listened to a performance from Willemijn on Broadway and love the way she sings "renown" (Not sure I'm allowed to post this)

Jesus, she’s magnificent! I love the folky edge to the gentler bits then that massive clear belt. So wish I’d seen her.

I can’t believe I listened to that whole thing to check out 1 second of Renown 😊
But I’m pleased I did because she is indeed fabulous.
As for whether you’re allowed to post, we try to take a sensible approach to this. Copyright Rules! and clips of newer shows where producers understandably need to control the marketing wouldn’t be allowed. Full on recordings of an entire show which might stop someone buying a ticket wouldn’t be allowed. However we’re more likely to be ok with a clip of a long standing show which doesn’t give too much away and is already widely available. It’s not an exact science though so please bear with us.

Alice Fearn’s WIZARD.
Yes, it is completely over the top, but it was her final show and she had only done it before this two other times, over a year before this recording. She really did go out with a bang.

She really did go out with a bang. Apologies, but this is ghastly. As if you would ever think that you were so important as to ride roughshod over the score like this. It’s why I took so long to see it with Alice as I thought it’d all be overwrought riffing like this. I actually really enjoyed her. Not to be encouraged.

I feel like she cut down on the riffs a bit in her second year, at least from my experience of seeing her compared to in her first year. Eg there were a lot of shows in year 2 that were done completely to score which was a bit of a rarity in her first year. I think there may have been a change in musical director between casts. I know now that the current MD actively discourages riffing - evident from both Laura and Nikki sticking to score most of the time. Having seen Laura in late Jan, sticking to score is what I actually really enjoyed about her as it meant she focused more on acting though song instead of vocal acrobatics.

Awww, I love the score, and I'd like them to stick to it for the most part but last shows though... it feels like if you're going to allow showboating, it's at the lead's last show. Especially when the audience is going to be packed with fans that booked that show specifically! I've been in the audience of a last show accidentally just the once and people were going NUTS, and I tell you, I was like "wow, is this how it normally is?" It was like a contact high off their reactions. Felt like the first time back on a rollercoaster just after they greased the rails, it was awesome.

The craziness is generally reserved for cast changes nowadays. For the most part the score is stuck to by the current set of Elphabas and the audiences are just a normal theatre audience. If you want to avoid riffs and crazy audiences just don’t go to the final performance of a cast. 🤷🏼♂️

They just book tickets for a show and get faced with all that nonsense.

For the most part the score is stuck to by the current set of Elphabas I would say it depends more on the actress in the role. We had almost 2 years of Alice going off score and 6 months of Willemijn doing the same before that. I think the fact we don’t crazy riffs now is because Laura’s style has always been singing to the score ... she’s never been one for crazy riffs.

I wish they’d done a live version for streaming like Hamilton has. I miss my trips to Oz.
Talking about this with my friend the other day and I mentioned I’ve never really liked Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz (she’s a wet blanket), and that lead to another discussion as to whether anyone from either the original or Wicked is actually likeable.
Couldn’t really argue with them when they pointed out Elphaba, Glinda and Fiyero let a young teenage girl spend the rest of her life thinking she murdered someone.

She kills The Wicked Witch Of The East so she's still a murderer. Accidentally and with a house, admittedly! 😂

Although she does ‘wake up’ and think it’s all a dream, no? I think the ‘wake up’ is only in the movie and not the source material. Anyway, in both the original series of books and the Wicked Years, Dorothy definitely returns to Oz and knows the Wicked Witch is dead. Not that she ever shows any remorse. But my friend was making more of a commentary on Elphaba, Glinda and Fiyero more than anything - although now I think about it Glinda doesn’t know Elphaba is alive at the end, does she? Glinda’s character is such a mess in the second act though. In the source material it’s another good witch that sends Dorothy down the yellow brick road wearing a dead woman’s shoes, and Glinda only meets Dorothy after the wicked witch is dead and the Wizard has gone off on his balloon. Yet in Wicked they follow the movie by having Glinda give Dorothy the shoes and going to meet the Wizard - which makes no sense because Glinda knows the Wizard is a fraud with no power. In both the book and movie Glinda tells Dorothy to tap her heels three times to get home, so why wouldn’t Glinda just tell Dorothy how to leave when she first lands? So much for Glinda The Good!

The run has extended to November 2021, with cancellations until at least November 2020.
An interesting note is they've taken the entire 15th anniversary week off sale - wonder if there's anything planned.

Saturday 18th July was supposed to be the final performance of this cast, it's quite sad seeing cast members such as Nick McLean and Kim Ismay posting about not getting their last shows.

It is very sad to see some of the cast members leaving without an official final show. Hopefully they can reprise the roles in future.
I am glad to hear the news that the show has extended its run. This is such a difficult and uncertain time for theatre. I am hoping Wicked can survive through this hardship, it is a show I adore!

I love how the wind blows her hair when she hits the top note in the second bring me down. I know it's just the weather but it seems very theatrical

Don’t know if I’ve just missed live music but that was thrilling! The wind & rain definitely added something, but her voice & choices were great. 💚

Does anyone know what really happened to Nikki Davis Jones?
If I remember rightly, the rumour was that she cancelled her West End run after causing irreparable damage to her voice during the first UK tour. Apparently she no longer sings.
Natalie Andreou is another former standby who has vanished, deleted all social media etc.

I’m unsure what happened to Natalie A. Edit: noticed the post says “what really happened” to her. I believe it was a mixture of vocal struggles and personal mental health issues, there was a blog post about it on The Happy Performer a while ago before that blog got deleted.
