Lindsay Mendez was Elphaba for the 10th anniversary on Broadway, but given she took over the role several months before the anniversary I'd hardly call it a 10th anniversary stunt...

Where is it reported that Alice & Sophie will return? I could just about stomach a return to Alice if it’s only for a limited period. I would personally prefer they do a Broadway 10th anniversary stunt and cast someone new to the role ... but I realise the chances of that happening are SLIM!Sophie is a major no for me. I felt she never hit the mark as Glinda, bringing her back for the 15th would be a disappointment in my opinion. I would rather see Helen stay on in a KRJ style extension. I wouldn’t be too sure we could see Nikki return. Of course it all depends on the circumstances around her exit, which none of us will ever know, but no matter how much Wicked say they would work with her again, doesn’t mean it will ever happen. She left half way through a contract and had poor attendance during the part she did honour. There’s plenty of situations in the real world where employees don’t have a perfect employment record and leave, by law they can apply to come back at any point, but doesn’t mean they will be re-employed. There’s always the option of picking other candidates above them. It’s just pure speculation on my part, and it has happened before, but I just think it’s more complex than Nikki has said she wants to return so it will happen. Who was that? I think Lindsay Mendez.

Wicked cast someone new ... no fan favourite return. I should have said ... I wish London would have a brand new Elphaba for their 15th anniversary, similar to what Broadway had for their 10th anniversary 👍🏼 Hope this clears up any confusion ...

Time for me to start saving up money 😂... My bet is she will return for the 15th anniversary. They apparently really want Alice Fearn and Sophie Evans back for the actual 15th anniversary period, but I’d bet anything that Nikki will come back in January 2022 like Willemijn did for the 10th after she left early. Makes sense. Alice lacked some of Rachel's progression showing Elphaba changing , the increasing growl was a great idea and just did it for her, but Rachel would now look odd s a student, Alice hit the emotions, riffs and high points well. Sophie actually has a young sound that fits the character's age, has a great soprano end to her range we hadn't seen before, and by the end of her run was spot on with the accent and getting the laughs. There's a few other very top people who can whack a belt , play princesses, do comedy, sing the Galinda role, and can still play 18 , but the two obvious ones are probably still going to be in Holby or Les Mis tour.

Amy Lennox and Katie Hall? Amy Lennox definitely needs to play Glinda soon. She’d be ace.

Gina Beck has tweeted a ‘big up’ for stage actors successfully working in tv; specifically that her 2 US tour Elphabas & the u/s are all now leading ladies in tv shows, and I wondered who they were? I’ve tried searching the world wide web but to no avail. I wondered if Kate Reinders (doh! She was a Glinda) might have been one as she’s in that HSM thing. Anyone know? 😀

Emma Hunton was the other lead. Probably Emmy Raver-Lampman was the standby, she's in a show called The Umbrella Academy.

It's not a terrible choice, but i think it will be the same as Dolores Umbridge in Harry Potter.

Out of the two Glindas I would much rather have Dove Cameron. Riverdale is known for terrible musical adaptations and Dove at least has done some musicals.
I had hoped Pam Ferris would play Madame Morrible - rewatching Matilda really reminds me of the absolute force that was her Miss Trunchbull

Staunton would be ok as Morrible but not sure I believe the rumour if that release date is correct as she'll be spending a fair amount of time next year filming the Crown. The release date is rather optimistic anyway though.
I'd love to see Helen Mirren as Morrible.
If Dove Cameron is Glinda I'm afraid I won't be watching. Anna Kendrick please, she isn't too old!
And Lea Michele is obviously now out for Elphaba unless they aren't intending to film at all until next year.

I personally do see it returning. No other show is going to want that barn of a theatre and it’s still doing pretty well.

Even if they implement social distancing rules ( not sure how, as you can’t social distance on stage, audience I guess they could remove loads of seats ) I dunno I can’t see many people returning to theatres, even when they can . I won’t be going into a theatre . Maybe I’m just too paranoid

Gosh there are a lot of doom-mongers in this thread!
Theatre will return, it is just a question of when, and the big shows like Wicked which are able to cover their running costs and have huge name recognition will be the ones that come back first. If you want to be pessimistic, then think of the fringe theatres that aren't so fortunate.
If footballers can re-start playing and people can be in close contact in shops and schools, actors can be in close contact on stage if they are willing to do so, it is the audience distancing that is currently the problem, though masks, temperature checks and a lot of hand sanitiser would go a long way towards sorting that.
People are desperate for normality, so I think a lot of people will return to theatres with adequate measures in place. But if people want to be more cautious that is their choice, no-one will be forcing anyone to go back.
I don't see any point in being pessimistic about it though, otherwise what is the point of having any hope about anything?

If you want to be pessimistic, then think of the fringe theatres that aren't so fortunate. That's how I see it. Things will get back to normal eventually, and when they do there will be a theatre, a set, a show that was easily covering its costs at the time the lockdown started, and performers who already know the show. Why would they throw everything away and take the risk of trying to build up a profitable new production from scratch when they aren't far off having one available and ready to go? Reopening productions where possible is the cheaper and safer option.
