Most of us have been saying Lucie, Nikki or Laura for months.
No surprises it is looking likely to be one of the three.
Good for her, she certainly showed on tour she is capable and she has one hell of a voice!

you can say one thing about Wicked, they are consistent with their boring announcements. Every three years you may get one exciting one but otherwise. 😂

Funny though maybe actually Elphaba isn’t a popular role, and Producers have difficulty finding actresses who want to play her. Never know

It's one of the biggest mezzo female leading roles you can get, so that draws people to it. If it was really down to 2 out of the 3 in the finals being former/current standbys than that to me just shows that those girls might have an advantage in a way that they're very familiar with the role and had time to test the waters. I think we all forget that what we see as "exciting" maybe isn't what the company is looking for?!

Well it seems the next Elphaba will be lacking in the acting department! 😢

Let's be honest here... Elphaba is really ALL about the sing and Nikki Bentley can blow the roof off when she sings those songs!

Elphaba is about so much more than the sing for me, a well acted and well sounding Elphaba is everything! I’m sorry but outside of the big 3 numbers I found Nikki very average IMO, and I saw her 3 times to give her a fair chance. Each to their own though, she can sing the sh*t out of the big 3! Can’t take that away from her, and she may have changed her portrayal if she joins London so will give her a fair chance!

I waited all tour to see Nikki in three locations and finally caught a show in Manchester - very underwhelming. Nikki has an amazing voice but I just didn’t connect with her Elphaba. It might be seeing Nikki compared to Amy who just ‘was’ Elphaba, her acting choices were outstanding. I don’t see Nikki as a lead personally and I won’t be rushing to London to see her, there are other Elphabi who act/sing and have the right balance between the two.

I think we all forget that what we see as "exciting" maybe isn't what the company is looking for?! You’ve hit the nail on the head, this is what I’ve been saying for ages - with as much money at stake as they have in this production, the safe bet will always win over ‘exciting’ casting.

Definitely.
Someone who has already proved they can already do it V someone who hasn't.
It's a huge risk to take on what is such a big sing.

You actually have a very good point there!
She did have to audition year after year before she got in (kind of like what Lucie Jones is doing now!) and could well have given up but was so desperate for the role she kept going and how glad we are that she did!

I understand that, but they took a risk with Rachel Tucker, so why can’t they take another risk They totally could and I'm sure "exciting" things will happen again at some point because they did. But you have a previous member of the show auditioning they basically bring 2 things to the table for them: skills (1) and safety (1). if they're good, someone else would have to make up for not having any "points" in the safety-department (0) with even better skills (2). So to bring the Nikki-example back in: she's done the role over 100 times including 8 show weeks, the musical supervisor watched her do her job a bunch of times. that's safety for them. if she then also brings the skills, someone else just has to be that bit better, a new and ultimate Elphaba with killer voice and acting. And from the gossip around, someone like Lucie Jones was totally in that game.

They kinda had to take a risk in 2011 with Rachel as they had a limited group of green girls. Now, we’re 8 years on and have three UK productions (two tours and London) with past actresses to choose from. They literally have SO many women to choose from now that it would be stupid of them to choose someone brand new.
‘New’ Glinda is also something I can’t see happening. They took a risk with a Sophie and it took her a good few months to go from terrible to average reviews and only started getting consistently positive reviews in her second contract.

There's been no talk of any new names for Glinda at all which I assume means it's a vacancy they've filled "internally" this time around.

They kinda had to take a risk in 2011 with Rachel as they had a limited group of green girls. We did have standby Ashleigh Gray who had performed a number of times as standby due to Alexia’s illness. She had a huge following and was more than capable of lead Elphaba. I wonder if the new Glinda is Helen Woolf? She’s very quiet on social media so the chances of anything leaking or her dropping hints would be minimal ... unless Sophie is staying?

Post removed pending moderator review. Sorry guys, shouldn’t have admitted to offering sexual services to Michael McCabe to get an Elphaba audition...

I was at Wicked yesterday and spoke to Swing Bex, she's confirmed she's staying on and will be getting a scheduled Elphaba show in the next contract! Very excited about this

If Glinda was an internal recruitment, I am thinking it will be Helen Woolf. She rarely missed shows on tour and was enjoyed by audiences. Charli apparently told people that she wasn't going to be sticking around, i.e. she will probably stop covering from cast change onward.

Last week they were extremely low on ensemble members and swings were covering 3-4 tracks in one show. So they called Charli in so they could keep Sam and Rosa in the ensemble. Just to keep numbers up! So interesting seeing how the team comes together.
