Rachel and Gina in Wicked was what got me into musicals in the first place, nearly 5 years ago. It's far from my favourite show now and I haven't seen it again since, but I can't wait to go back and see Rachel and get all nostalgic.

If I remember rightly from Twitter, the new cast photos were taken in the first week of rehearsals, that would have meant that Rachel was still on holiday so would have missed the photo shoot.

Seen on Twitter that camping has started ! Are they queuing to see the current cast leave or the new cast come in? Or maybe Rachel's last show? Or cast change 2017? Or maybe all of the above? |

New cast look great... Rachel beautiful, Suzie gorgeous, Anita stunning, Katie... well she is there still. At least she smiles in the photos, I haven't seen her smile in on stage since 2013

In other news I'm not sure has been mentioned, Savannah was still off unwell today with a throat infection and hasn't been on all week.
Awful timing and you have to feel for her getting sick in her final week after such a long run! Hope she gets back before Saturday and doesn't do an Idina!

Well she must be bored, especially as she has done it for 7 years and had her Understudy Elphaba role taken away from her. But I guess if the pay is there and no one else wants her, why not stay?
It is a shame though, for the show to keep her on. Fair enough she is talented, but not only does she look and act bored, but the roles of Nessarose and Boq are perfect roles for someone just coming out of theatre school or a young talent. So many young people are talented out there and it just seems a waste. Also, and I know I will get crap for saying it again, but it makes sense to have someone who looks young to play Nessarose as she is supposed to be the younger sister of the Elphaba.

Sam Lupton and Daniel Hope, in their times as Boq alongside her, were always filled with energy and they seemed genuinely in it and happy to be there whenever I saw them do the show. And that is considering Boq has about the same stage time or slightly more/less than Nessarose in the production! |

Why did she get the Elpeba understudy taken away from her? Katie was on a roll early in the 2000's (Whistle, Rocky Horror, Beauty and the Beast, Sister Act) and since Wicked it's just got stagnant. Still I presume she will be on 1500 pounds a week or so - so why leave money like that to be unemployed? The life of performers is difficult especially after 30 when you want mortgages/family etc. I know she has auditioned for Les Mis Several times but hasn't been successful poor thing... Maybe they should have a two year only limit like they have in other shows? |

She sang it well. I was surprised. Katie is a great singer but her voice has a real MT creamy sound to the tone. Elphie naturally needs a higher timbre and rocky sound (Ellis, Tucker, Menzel, Block etc)... The belt has to be cleaner, with riffs matching it. It's like having Emma Williams, Lea Salonga or Ruthie Henshaw sing the role - they can and will sing it well.... But it's not what the role requires in the full casting brief. |

Well damn, that's a whole lot better than I was expecting. I do think she sounds a little more strained on the high notes now - maybe that's why she stopped covering Elphie? (it could just be the difference between recording/live though) |

The trouble is, she gets cast in some good roles. Nessarose and Mary Robert for example, they aren't bad roles, they get their solos etc, but because of this it has made her the staple for supporting roles since. I think staying this long in Wicked could potentially be an issue for her but then again, maybe not. But I can't imagine what other leading roles or even supporting roles would suit her in complete honesty, but that is because I have her ingrained into my head as Nessarose haha.

I first saw Wicked in 2013 (the day before that Katie/elphaba audio was recorded actually) and thought she was fabulous as Nessa. But I do agree that the energy isn't there anymore. I'd really love to see her in something else though as I do like her voice. Natasha Ferguson was a good Nessa understudy on tour...

But I can't imagine what other leading roles or even supporting roles would suit her Fantine in Les Mis? Kate/Lucy in Avenue Q? Ms Mullins in School of Rock? Mary Delgado in Jersey Boys? Who knows, maybe she'll even return to Wicked in a few years to play Morrible? That said, I wouldn't be surprised at all if Louise Dearman did so in the near future. |

Shes only there till january now, not a full contract. Suspect she was kept on for the anniversary as an original london cast member

Gosh are we really having this discussion about poor KRJ again? Assuming you guys get moved on in your jobs regularly so your company can give other people a chance for you to find it so bizarre that a) she's chosen to stay in a job that offers her stability, b) the producers are clearly happy with her. I get not being a fan of someone but this seems a strange criticism of her. It's a shame that for the regulars, there's a difference in her performance but I doubt the vast majority of the audience are bothered by her current portrayal. I saw the show again recently and had no issues with her performance. Michael LOVE your suggestion of her playing Ms Mullins in SoR! She'd be perfect!! |

Does anyone know if its possible to hand something in at the stage door of Wicked (Apollo)? It's for one of the new cast but I'm at a show that day (Monday) as well so need to leave it & dash off.
