I ignored the prep and reading list - is each of the bits a particular letter or is that structure Crimps invention? The novel is written as a series of letters.

There are SO MANY LETTERS in the book. I don't think he's taken a dozen of his favourites and put them on stage in his own style though; he's clearly echoing themes from the letters (which is why it's worth at least reading a synopsis before you go in), but it didn't feel weirdly gappy in the way I think it would if he had just taken a key twelve and dramatised them and only them.

I'll be in London as of tommorow and wouldnt mind to find out if I hate it or like it. When would I need to turn up for the Saturday matinee return tickets line(or Monday evening return tickets line)? And at what time should I check for online tickets tomorrow? It would be lovely if you could give me any hints as I need to squeeze as many plays in my short stay as possible Theatre in Germany isnt as wonderful as Londons theatre scene

If you miss those, just keep checking as they are now putting returns online as soon as they are returned, it appears. Alternatively your best bet is probably to turn up at the box office when it opens from 9:30 and ask!

Okay, so I've u-turned on what I feel about this show - this is show is going to be completely marmite, you're either going to hate it, or you're going to like it...
I didn't enjoy it, because I don't think you can enjoy it (unless this is your kind of thing subject wise, in which case crack on, have a lovely time) but after thinking about it over the last 24 hours I can appreciate it a lot.
The set, and the attention to detail, I thought was exceptional, but I guess that's what you expect from the National. Cate Blanchett, again, was exceptional. I could write a lot on why, but I don't want to ruin any of the plot (if you call it that). Stephen Dillane also very good, as well as Jessica Gunning.
3 stars from me, but I think it's honestly worth at least 2 for the performances.

Without any background it is hard to get a grip on for quite a while - didn't feel gappy but it does go from feeling like a meta commentary to something a little more episodic until, finally, there is even a danger of a bit of narrative creeping in! But I'm still thinking about it 24hrs later so it's got something despite the direction.

Surprised to not see any mention of it here - I got a mail today that two extra matinees were announced and "as I had entered the ballot before" I was welcome to book.
Booking opened at 3pm and I found the mail just after 4pm British Time. Only 5324 people in the Queue ahead of me...
Not that I can attend anyway...

Got the same e-mail, looked out of curiosity and the queue was enormous.
Shame is that the ones in the know can pick up returns quite easily by just checking the NT website and the ones who are not, have to go through another balloting / queuing cycle likely to further increase their frustration with the NT.

The 19th matinee has been on there for a while, I’ve been looking for returns for it a few times a day as it’s the only one I can still do. Now a note on the queue says it’s all sold out. Looks like I am down to booking a viewing in the archive now. Surely they can’t screw that possibility up as well?

I love how they are clearly putting the blame on Craig.

Seems a bit off naming him - that’s not usual practice is it? Particularly as he may get harangued by Blanchettistas

Maybe it's so people don't assume it was Cate having a bit too much fun at the BAFTAS?

They should have had an understudy for this. It is a sell out ( give or take the returns) and people making a trip especially to see her. Or maybe from what I’ve read, too much to train an understudy in the part?

Hi all First message here but I have been following this thread to get advice on how to get tickets. I don't live in London and planned on coming on next weekend And after uploading the national theatre page every hour for the last three days I did manage to get returns tickets for Saturday 22nd. I am so thrilled. OK I have to admit, I might like Cate Blanchett too much. I can't wait to see the play.
