Oh, god, I've so far managed to avoid Katie Mitchell and Martin crimp, but I don't think I can resist this. I mean, it's playing with Pamela!
It might be the only time in my entire life that I get any use out of the 2 weeks we spent on that book at uni!

It's going to be tough, but not unachievable, nothing at the Nash is ever truly sold out. What's your source for it being the Dorfman though, I haven't seen an auditorium named (though I would honestly not be at all surprised if it was)?

Look on the bright side, at least us regulars know which unattractive side / high chair seats to go for, meaning we stand a chance of snapping them up while others hesitate. And while the mere NT regulars are trying desperately to find the best of a bad bunch, the Mitchell/Dillane regulars will be hanging the expense and buying something near the front because there's no point even setting foot in the Dorfman if you're not going to be able to see or hear anything AT ALL.  Actually, you know how two negatives make a positive? Do you think 'terrible Dorfman visibility' + 'terrible Mitchell visibility' will equal 'shockingly good visibility after all'? |

Given she's just had a new production on at the Royal Opera, and with this coming up at the National, must be time for some interviews with Katie complaining about being ignored by the British theatrical establishment.

She will switch to her moan about not getting paid enough. Apart from the ADs I’d guess she’s directed more shows at the NT than almost any other director. |

I'd be willing to put a fiver on Howard Davies having directed far more at the NT than Katie Mitchell without being AD. They've both been associate directors though so really *should* both have directed more there than non-ADs.
I feel like Katie Mitchell, while having a solid and established relationship with the NT, probably hasn't directed as much there as other directors who just quietly churn out non-controversial productions, but she's certainly far more visible when she does...

I think even with Cate Blanchett the NT is cautious about Katie Mitchell. Hence the Dorfman. Hytner wasn't too kind to her in his memoir and he HIRED her a lot.

Howard Davies, Bill Bryden maybe. I don’t have the figures but I think Katie Mitchell has directed about 15 productions there. |

This sounds like total Pseud's Corner ramped up to the max.
Would much prefer to see Blanchett in All About Eve which will probably be playing around the same time. I wonder what the story is about why she dropped out of that one.

I wonder what the story is about why she dropped out of that one. You do realise that Ivo Van Hove is the director for All About Eve? I well recall the confusion of Blanchett fans at Gross und Klein, which I liked very much, and I thought she was excellent. As for ‘Cleansed’, ‘In the Republic of Happiness’, ‘Attempts on Her Life’ etc, from Mitchell, Crimp or together, some of my favourite productions. Hopefully people will do their homework on it and those who want to see it can get the tickets! |
