They're going to need a big headline name to fill the Palladium with a panto for a few months. Any idea who's in the frame?

The Palladium has history of putting on pantomime. I thibk it's a great idea if it's done well, but agree they will need a big headliner.

Haven't seen the film so just wondering - what proportion of the songs are original ALW (and yes, some people will argue that they're not original and they've been in many ALW shows already) and how much is songs from the film?

I've not seen the film but have the CD. According to that I think 3 are from the film & the rest are his.

Anyone who has seen this and/or Hamilton, just curious if you think this'll win any Tony's? I've seen both, roughly a month ago. Disclaimer: I don't think it's a secret that I didn't exactly enjoy Hamilton, but I'm trying to be as objective as possible.I really think that the Best Actor Tony should go to Alex Brightman. He gives an energetic performance, is barely off stage, commands the stage, has a great voice that suits the rock songs very well, acts greatly and you really feel and root for Dewey. LMM, otoh, doesn't have the singing best voice and I felt that his acting was wooden. Haven't seen Fiddler on the Roof, so I can't comment on its lead actor. Not sure which other shows would also qualify for Best Score, but I'd love to see School of Rock win as well, as I love its score. ALW in top form. I guess Hamilton is set for Best New Musical and other shows don't have much (any?) chance. |

I think Leslie Odom Jr is more likely to win over Lin Manuel Miranda and Alex Brightman unless he's put into best supporting actor which wouldn't make sense as Burr IMO is a lead role same as Alexander Hamilton.

The only show that could possibly get best musical over Hamilton is American Psycho as there does seem to be some early buzz from previews. Still a long shot but never say never

The only show that could possibly get best musical over Hamilton is American Psycho as there does seem to be some early buzz from previews. Still a long shot but never say never I think there's more of a chance of theatre being banned than Hamilton losing. It would be wore than Imelda losing the Olivier. Theoretically, if they did lose the Tony, there would be a riot of all the Hamilfans rampaging the streets of New York! I think School of Rock might pick up two or three of the awards and Alex winning is a high possibility. |

The article says this is planned to open next spring at the new london but they are looking at the possibility of getting it ready for November now showboat is closing early

Can see it possibly being at the New London, would fit better than the palladium. Question is, what will go to the palladium? Or will it still be used for concerts?

Far fewer seats at the New London, but hardly any of the mid-size theatres are available (also, ALW doesn't own as many mid-size houses!)

Question is, what will go to the palladium? Or will it still be used for concerts? I think I have the answer of what COULD go in....This would be perfect!!.... But in the event that it doesn't do well in Chicago, Broadway and it turns out Lloyd Webber doesn't watch SpongeBob, then I guess the Palladium will just be used for limited runs, concerts and stuff for TV. |

Perhaps that means they're waiting to see if Brightman gets a Tony award - in which case a November opening for SOR in the West End doesn't look great timing wise. You don't take your star out of your show five months after their Tony win - or do you?

I know he's in Aladdin, but I think Nathan Amzi would be a good choice for Dewey. And if not him, then either Oliver Tompsett or Simon Lipkin.
As for Ms Mullins, I was thinking of Rebecca Trehearn (can she hit the high notes in Queen of the Night? - if not, cut them.) or Siobhan Dillon.

Is anything explicitly said about Dewey's physical appearance? Most people, knowing Jack Black played the role, will be expecting probably someone on the more chubby side, even the casting of Alex Brightman suggests that, too. If Nathan Amzi can play guitar (or learn), I really don't know who else this part can or should go to!
Also, Sierra is no stranger to the West End, so maybe if ALW does want to bring someone over, it may be her. Though one can't help but think she's a little miscast in this particular role, so would also welcome someone else (though I haven't seen Sierra in the show, of course, so not an entirely fair judgement!).
