Seen this tonight on Broadway and abso-friggin-lutely loved it.
I've seen many amazing child actors so far, but this is on a completely different level. It is beyond believable how great these kids are, especially the boy playing Zack (Brandon Niederauer) and the two girls playing Summer (Isabella Russo) and Tomika (Bobbi Mackenzie). These guys rock. Do we have a  or :headbang: smiley? Alex Brightman gives a hell of a performance as Dewey; funny, rousing and so full of energy. If I wanted to be picky, I could say that I wouldn't have casted Sierra Boggess as Rosalie as I found that her high voice didn't suit the role.
Lord Andrew composed a great score. Catchy and rocking songs which I really, really enjoyed. Good to see he seems to be back to old strength.
I left the Wintergarden Theatre thinking "I need to see this again." Not sure when I'm back in New York, but I do hope it's still running then. Queued up for a rush ticket this morning and got O101 in the Orchestra. Maybe a bit too distant from the stage but otherwise perfectly fine and a bargain for $37. Here's hoping that the West End transfer will eventually happen.

If they're planning to rehearse in March 2017, then I assume it'll be April or May 2017. I think a panto is planned for the Palladium rather than Cats for Christmas 2016.

Yep Cinderella Panto is planned for a Christmas season at the Palladium, so Spring 2017 makes sense!

It's an absolutely stunning show and Alex Brightman and the kids are phenomenal! I wasn't the biggest fan of Sierra Bogges either, she had awful chemistry with Alex Brightman.

I do know it's a tiny bit early, but Lord Andrew, if you read this, would you please cast Nathan Amzi as Dewey for the West End production? Ta.
Just booked another trip to New York in December. If School of Rock is still running then, I'm so seeing this show again.

I can see the talent and energy from clips, but been wondering how it stands up as a story/show.

Interesting. Seeing it again because it's fun, or is there more to it? It's a great show that I enjoyed a lot, and I tend to revisit shows I like as often as possible, so it's basically a no-brainer for me. I can see the talent and energy from clips, but been wondering how it stands up as a story/show. I don't know the movie - think that Jables is a much better singer (Tenacious D!!!) than actor - but I really enjoyed the musical. Incredibly talented kids, an amazing performance by Alex Brightman (fingers crossed he'll win the Tony over LMM - I really think he deserves to win) for whom you root for and a very strong score. What's not to like about this show?

What's not to like about this show? They say the Tony race is actually between Leslie Odom Jr. and Danny Burstien. Most people don't like LMM's acting (personally I disagree though, I think he is a stunning performer).

I love Sierra, but I can understand how she seems a bit wrong for the part she's playing. Can't judge too harshly though, as I haven't seen it live myself. I hope I get a chance to catch it when it comes to London as I love what I've seen from trailers, clips and hearing the songs

The nominations aren't even out yet, right? Haven't seen Fiddler on the Roof, so I can't comment on this. I don't think it's a secret that I didn't like Hamilton (I know, I know, that's the greatest understatement of the century), but trying to be as objective as possible: I thought that Alex Brightman's performance was so energetic and likeable, perfectly acted and sung and he's barely off stage, so I really think that he should win over both Leslie Odom Jr. and Lin-Manuel Miranda.

There's nothing wrong with Sierra, I loved her in Love Never Dies, but I think that she's been miscast as Ms Mullins. Yes, we all know that she's a high soprano, but personally, I think that doesn't suit the role very well. I hope I get a chance to catch it when it comes to London as I love what I've seen from trailers, clips and hearing the songs Yep, it's such a great score, and, unlike many other modern shows, not full of boring pop songs (Finding Neverland, I'm looking at you).

No, the Tony's haven't said anything yet, this is just speculation from Broadway forum. I haven't seen Fiddler either, not sure if it would be my sort of thing. Apparently Alex misses A LOT of performances so that could cost him the award. My winner would still be LMM, but each to their own!

You didn't like Hamilton? "not like" doesn't even come close. I've said it already somewhere in the Hamilton thread, so I'll only repeat the short version here which is "I deeply and truly loathe hip hop, and Hamilton is almost exclusively hip hop".

Sorry, I'm new here! Have you seen Hamilton yet or do you just not like the concept of it having hip-hop songs? This is getting completely off-topic now, but since you asked: I did see Hamilton three weeks ago, here's what I posted in the Hamilton thread: theatreboard.co.uk/post/10888/thread and theatreboard.co.uk/post/11041/threadI hate hip hop in general, so sitting through a show that is almost exclusively hip hop is not exactly my favourite way of spending time. I didn't listen to the cast recording before and hoped that the score would be similar to In the Heights (which I love). I found the book to be a mess (still don't know anything about the founding fathers), the costumes were boring and all looked the same and there was no real set. Actors switching roles wasn't helpful either (e.g. LMM looked exactly the same age in both acts - as did Anthony Ramos, who played a uni friend of Hamilton in the first act and the nine (?) year old son of Hamilton in the second act). That said, I was clearly in the minority as I heard nothing but praises during the interval and after the show - even from elder white men. Gosh, why couldn't LMM have turned Hamilton into a punk musical instead? Now that's something I'd have enjoyed. However: May I suggest to move further discussion about Hamilton to the appropriate thread theatreboard.co.uk/thread/99/hamilton and focus on School of Rock here?

I saw it a few weeks ago and also thought Sierra was miscast. She was obviously great at the token soprano bits but just wasn't right when she had to rock out.
Also she wasn't Rachel Tucker and I was coming down from quite a post-Wicked high at the time!
I enjoyed the show but it was very much the film on stage. So if you like the film you will almost certainly enjoy this. I'd like to see the actors put their own stamp on it but I'm sure they'll get the chance in time.

Shudder pantomime.
Alex Brightman may not win the Tony, but one thing is for sure, he is virtually on stage for the whole show.

I am a fan of Cats, I'd rather see that back than see a Panto take over that amazing theatre.
