If it ends up going to the Noel Coward, I'm claiming it as a win after suggesting it a while back I'd previously only seen the show at Birmingham Hipp so had associated it with huge theatres, but having since seen it at Newcastle Theatre Royal I began wondering if Cameron could squeeze it into one of his playhouses. It's a stunning show, hope this happens!

I mean, having been backstage there, there is literally no wing space at the Noel Coward. Like, it is pretty much the size of a corridor in the wings. Will a show like Mary Poppins really fit there in its current form? We'll see if it ends up going there.

If this does come back to the West End, my bank account will be empty within minutes of it being announced.

I thought the Newcastle Theatre Royal was huge?
I could never of dreamed this show to go to the Noel Coward but I really hope it happens. I only ever imagined this show at a great venue such as Drury Lane, Dominion etc. I even thought it might go to the Palladium next year in between the two pantos.
I wouldn't be surprised if it goes to the NC over Xmas given it's Cameron's theatre and none of the huge theatres will be available come Xmas.

I imagine the ending, she would have to go a lot higher up rather than further out though, considering the theatre isn't that deep, but is high.

I really struggle to see this fitting into the Noel Coward

In the most basic way, Newcastle Theatre Royal looks to have a stage as small as the Noel Coward, however obviously it's impossible to really make a judgement without comparing the full technical specifications/stage sizes etc of the two venues.

I really struggle to see this fitting into the Noel Coward Not to mention, it likely has higher running costs than Half a Sixpence so putting it in a 800 seat theatre makes no financial sense.

Newcastle Theatre Royal looks to have a stage as small as the Noel Coward The book says they are both roughly 9m wide by 11m deep. Interesting, thanks TM. I tell you where I would love to see Poppins, and that's at the Dominion. There's sooo much wonderful space for her to fly!

Surely if it returns to London, especially around the festive season, it could easily be the Christmas hit this year, alongaide Dick Whittington at The Palladium after the success of Cinderella last year?

I thought the Newcastle Theatre Royal was huge? They refurbished a few years back and made the stage bigger, probably to complete with Sunderland Empire which markets itself as the "West End of the North East". Sunderland still gets most of the bigger shows now but probably more so to their affiliation with ATG.

They are looking at a MUCH bigger theatre than the Noel Coward for the possible return of Poppins.
One I am

Got to be Drury Lane as thats the only show ive seen Mr B be positive about recently plus the layout of his text suggests a hint to Parslay too

But it wouldn't surprise me at the same time, because it is so expensive and therefore must be a bitch to run if they aren't selling.

Drury Lane would make a lot more sense than cramming it into a small playhouse like the Noel Coward.

If it's that I want Kinky and Beautiful to close- I certainly don't as I liked both. Though both are actually closing in the next year.

I thought 42nd Street has picked up since opening? Unless 42nd Street closes by Xmas there will be no big theatres available so it wouldn't surprise me if this went to the Nc

I didn't mean it to sound shady or rude, but you said a few times Beautiful and Kinky Boots were gonna close, which made it sound like you wanted them to close rather than they are planning to close. But whilst I do agree Beautiful will close before the year is out, I think Kinky Boots will make it till its 3rd year next August then shutter. It's still selling well and packing out, especially at the weekends.

Regional venues are pencilling Kinky Boots during 2018 - I doubt it would run in town and on tour at once?! Yes, Kinky Boots has a tour planned for 2018. It depends, if London venues are announced for the tour (Richmond/Wimbledon) then it is safe to assume it is probably closing before the tour begins. But if there are no London venues announced for the tour, it could well run at the same time. But that being said, Kinky Boots has already ran longer than many assumed, so if it closed in 2018 it wouldn't be a shock.

Kinky Boots isn't doing Richmond/Wimbledon/Bromley. I would expect it'll take a similar approach to Beautiful - have the intention to close, but extend and tour simultaneously if sales pick up to an acceptable level.

I've heard it'll be in Drury Lane by Christmas for a limited run assuming 42nd St doesn't pick up.

Sunderland still gets most of the bigger shows now but probably more so to their affiliation with ATG. It was just the wing space stage right that was extended - the stage itself can't be altered. A new set of backdrops was created for Poppins in Newcastle (and one of the other smaller theatres on the tour) to be a better fit for the smaller stage size and to give a better idea of scale and depth, rather than just 'bringing in' the existing ones.

Bumping this thread in the hope somewhere lurking in the depths of the internet is a producer or producers assistant reading this. Would absolutely love to see Ashley Brown reprise the title role should it come to the west end in the future. Sheerly to experience her phenomenal Feed the Birds. Granted I know the chances are so very slim, theyre almost negative and the orchestrations wouldn't be a patch on this full orchestra, but that key change. Wow.
