I too was there last night - I couldn’t see how Eurydice was a part worthy of winning any awards. I thought every other principal character was way more interesting than Eurydice. Thought Donal Finn was great, and really enjoyed Melanie LaBarrie and Gloria Onitiri as well.

Why is Grace missing so many shows? Not good. do we really have to go over this again? there’s a 100 day cough going around at the moment, half the west end is down with it. it’s good people are learning to take time off when they need it rather than over doing it and causing permanent damage. understudies exist for a reason!

I sincerely hope Donal is ok: a few days ago he sounded extremely strained and shouted through Wait for Me. I do hope he’s taking care of his voice because yeeeeesh.

Why is Grace missing so many shows? Not good. I think she did every single Sunset show - and Hadestown is a big big sing. Given she’s fresh out of drama school she can take some time to find the vocal stamina needed!

I felt the same about Madeline, it felt like Donal gave it everything but she was a bit one note

I saw 4 performances of sunset with no Grace so she definitely missed at least that many, I wonder if she’s absent because of the sunset broadway transfer? Maybe she needs to be doing publicity or some such, I’ve been trying to figure out when she will be finishing in Hadestown to leave for the September opening on broadway….do we assume Madeleine will take over the role?

For clarity - Grace only missed only 1 week ..almost … Tues-Sat (7 shows) at Sunset - so you must have gone 4 times in that one week.

But to my memory it was a few times the second last week of November and then again at a performance just before Christmas, but there’s no criticism here, I thought she was amazing and I loved sunset like crazy so am trying to catch her in Hadestown before she goes to broadway, I’ve seen it 3 times so far but haven’t managed to catch one of her performances. Performers are just as entitled to be ill or safeguard their own mental wellbeing as anyone. It’s a marathon not a sprint!

I did not think this came over well at the Oliviers.
The use of the actors own accents (to me) does not work and create any kind of cohesive world (particularly for me Grace and Mel) - and Hades needs to sing about another octave down...

I haven’t seen it in the West End yet but the accents are certainly jarring if you’re used to the Broadway album.

I haven’t seen it in the West End yet but the accents are certainly jarring if you’re used to the Broadway album. I saw the show last week and I'd listened to the Broadway recording enough times that I needed a bit to tune in with the different accents used in the West End production. I must say that in general, after the initial "oh wait, now this character has this accent?" I was absolutely fine with it. While it creates perhaps a less cohesive sonic world for the show, out in the real world we all speak with some degree of accent... and maybe bathing everything in standard American accents produced by non-American performers could actually have felt less authentic? However, there are some who perhaps take that "I'll speak and sing in my own accent" a tad too far, and there were bits where, if I hadn't been very familiar with the recording, I'd have had some serious trouble deciphering Orpheus. And since I've mentioned him, a word of warning: if you're very used to the Broadway recording, Orpheus' accent is not the only thing you'll find jarring when you see the show - Dónal embraces the character and plays him with intensity and passion, but at least the night I saw the show he sounded like he really didn't have the healthiest and comfortable falsetto, I'm afraid.

I think it was quite brave of the producers to go with the 'own accents' approach for London. I'm looking forward to seeing it, it does sound like a good show; but additionally aren't we (in the UK) a bit too easily impressed by the sheen of Quality that American-ness brings to musicals sometimes? By letting go of that they gave up the 'easy win', and really show their confidence in the material (and UK performers), which is great.

Apologies if it’s already been answered but how easy/hard is it to win the daily lottery for this?

Agree - Hades should be a bass vocal - it's the perfect contrast to Orpheus's falsetto.

I tried non-stop and didn't win. Best bet is a late in the day ticket on the official site.

Just caught up on the Oliviers and this didn’t come across well at all. What a missed opportunity to sell the show.

I do have a theory that barring a few exceptions, how much you like a show is inversely proportional to how well you think it comes across on TV spots.
Stuff I love I often watch and think others will view it and wonder what on earth I rave about it for*. Whereas stuff I don't previously know I often quite enjoy.
Anyway, still don't know a huge amount about Hadestown or much of the score other than the main one, and I quite enjoyed this!
I also love casts using their own accents.
*Tom Francis this year a notable exception.
