I rated this 3 stars and to be honest that’s only because of Grace Hodgett Young who in my opinion is the best thing about this production (I may be a little biased also coming from Nottingham though). Not sure if I just caught a bad show but the others didn’t really seem up to the task technically and most screeched their way through most songs. I struggled to actually understand what some of them were saying. It seemed as though they were forcing their way through the notes.
Very few memorable songs as well. Admittedly I am not a musical theatre fan at all and only booked this as part of my new years’ resolution to see more musicals. Think I’ll stick to plays for the rest of the year.

I saw this earlier this month and think I enjoyed it more than when I saw it at the National. Was impressed with the effort to let British/ regional accents come through in the songs

Caught the matinee of this today and it left me wanting something more, but I’m not sure what. I loved Hermes & Persephone; their songs left everything else in the dust, and their performances were great also. Didn’t engage with Orpheus who I found far too meek and whiney, nor Eurydice who looked neither hungry nor cold at any point; just saying it over & over didn’t really wash. Flawed people doing flawed things I can cope with. Flawed people doing STUPID flawed things that will clearly end badly deserve everything they get. I loved lots of the music, but some stretches went on a bit. Full cast were on apart from a debut for Hades cover who was good but not in any way menacing. That suit…gah! The rest of the cast looked really pleased for him. He did great.

What's the situation with merchandise for this show?
Are they selling any? If so, what? I'm looking for a theatre poster.

Show number 12 and my last one of my theatre week holiday and I definitely saved the best for last at today’s show. Up to recently had no interest in this show and it was only its appearance on the recent BBC screening of the Manchester musicals concert that got me interested enough to book. Thankfully with a Sunday performance I ended up with a stalls row S seat which despite it stating a pillar in view wasn’t a problem at all and neither was the Circle overhang. So going into the theatre without any expectations with this show, quite honestly it was 2hrs and 30 minutes of musical theatre heaven. An absolutely sensational show and I can see why it sells out and got all the big awards. They are thoroughly deserved based on my viewing. There haven’t been many shows this year that have given me that wow factor, but this is one of them. Director Rachel Chavkin and her team have done a superb job with this one and fits brilliantly onto the Lyric stage.
Looking at the cast board in the foyer we had a few cast changes on today. Madeline Charlemagne as Eurydice and Chris Short as Hades. This entire cast were just fantastic with killer vocals that can make you laugh one minute and break your heart the next. Donal Finn, what a star he is as Orpheus. I could listen to him all day. That voice! It was great to have Melanie La Barrie back on the London stage. Loved her waistcoat! As Hades, Chris managed to get a nice balance in his performance between charm and slightly evil.
Along with the brilliant cast, we have the sensational 7 piece on stage band. Again, I would be happy listening to them any time. It was also a nice touch by Gloria Onitiri during her Act 2 opener to name check all the band members. They all a massive cheer and quite rightly so. The musical score was just a joy to listen to and thoroughly enjoyed the lot TBH. It’s one of those scores I would be happy to listen to post show.
Moving onto the techy stuff, a lovely lighting design helped to boost the emotional level of the songs. The stage didn’t at all seemed cramped with the full cast on and those props. I loved the use of the lift. Sound design was thankfully spot on so we could all appreciate those wonderful lyrics, vocals and music.
I was straight on my feet applauding this cast and 5⭐️ is thoroughly deserved today.

I saw this on Saturday night and thought it was phenomenal. Dónal Finn was absolutely AMAZING. I don’t think I’ve ever seen such a special performance in 20 years of watching west end shows. His performance is so powerful, emotional, I loved it and have not been able to stop thinking about this show ever since. The entire production is just perfect. Already booked to come back next week. We had understudy Eurydice on (Madeline Charlemagne) she was wonderful as was understudy Hades (Christopher Short) also so great. Melanie Le Barrie also phenomenal! Is rate this as one of the best shows I’ve ever seen! Couldn’t recommend this more!!

With Grace Hodgett-Young now confirmed for Sunset Boulevard on Broadway starting September, who do we think will take over Eurydice? Bring in someone new to the production?

Saw this show tonight after years of waiting and avoiding any visual or audio contact with it. It’s a show I was sure I was gonna LOVE due to the buzz and the comparisons. £55 last minute row R stalls seat, great view. I didn’t love the show, but I loved the score so much. The book is very very weak though. Somehow I got a bit lost and confused in act 1 but act 2 speeds along a bit. But there isn’t much conflict, no twists or turns, not much depth to the story at all. So he basically goes to the underworld, finds her, sings a song, and they leave. it’s just a bit too basic. I wasn’t a fan of Donal or Gloria, and I thought that Donal and Grace had zero chemistry. But then I thought that the plot doesn’t really give them enough time to build characters for us to connect to them. The lighting was amazing, and although the set was minimal I found it impressive, the choreography was great too. Also, if it’s 90% sung through then please don’t pause for an applause after mostly every song. Let it flow! I don’t think I’d book to see it again, but it’s definitely a show I will listen to on repeat. Actually I’d probably go back to see Waylon as Hermes, but that’s it. I think 3 stars is too much, but 4 might seem generous once I wake up tomorrow. I’ll sleep on it.

Has anyone managed to get cheaper on the day tickets in person here? I’d enter the lottery but hoping to go to a matinee so wouldn’t be able to claim even if I was lucky enough to win and haven’t been successful in the past. Cheapest current seat is £89.50 😭

I feel like I may need to give this another go. I'll most likely be booking with a group of friends who are desperate to see this so will tag along. I've watched a few of the What's On Stage performances on YT and the quality of singing seemed much better there. Maybe I did just catch an off performance.

Managed to get a good box seat, so finally here!
Orpheus is outstanding, but I think I'm seeing a cover for Euridices, whose voice is great but something is off with her performance.
One of the Fates is also OTT and has this haughty expression throughout which is very distracting.
A beautiful show, loved the staging.

Went to see this last night and it's good but still felt like a letdown in a way. Maybe Grace would have been different but Madeline really didn't compare well to Eva. She's not bad but definitely doesn't stand out imo.
As for Donal, I liked his la la Las which is important but the part that took me out of it was his accent. I'm Irish myself and it just took me out of it. I wish they had gone with the standard default accent instead of their own.
