Tonight i was in the same room as Parsley - and for once - we agree! This was absolutely horrific. A boring meandering and pointless exploration of how #MeToo has effected cis white men. I was tempted to walk out many times, and in all honest wish i had. I was both bored and offended. This felt like a slap in the face from the Royal Court after all their brilliant #MeToo work so far. |

Interesting posts. I have liked some of this playwright's other work (Dissocia, for example) so I thought about booking for this (it was between this or Instructions for Correct Assembly), but the cryptic publicity blurb made it sound sneery and cringe-making so decided to pass.
Neilson gave a speech?

Telling us play wasn’t finished To make allowances That actors would use script for the last 10 mins He is not very eloquent Didn’t come across well at all And it was all very embarrassing |

What MeToo work? I'm pretty sure that flash in the pan has not influenced anything I've seen there recently. Seeing this next week anyway so I'm hoping your criticisms are just that you don't like the politics or whatever... |

This is my first post here. I saw this on Saturday and, contrary to many it seems, I found a lot to enjoy in it. The two performers gave it their all and I laughed a lot. I admit that, living outside London, I don't get to the theatre not nearly as much as I would like, but I loved the intimacy of it, in fact Jonjo O'Neill sat next to me at one point. I only went because I'm a big fan of Anthony Neilsen's to date only film The Debt Collector (Billy Connolly is sensational in it, if anyone's not seen it I really reccomend it!)

I enjoyed watching this play hugely, but I did spend a fair bit of time rolling my eyes. I understand that it's meant to be a satire of how some men are worried that they can't flirt or say good morning to women anymore or whatever, but I don't think that really came across in the writing. I was talking to a friend about it, and she made the point that it works better if you are automatically suspicious of Jonjo O'Neill. But just because Anthony Neilson has worked with him before or we may have seen Unreachable and now will always be a least a little wary of him, it's not really fair on audiences if your play works best with that kind of foreknowledge in your brain.
