Update Closing night was amazing! You could tell from the get-go that there were a lot of fans in, with entrance applause for Demitri, Joel, Kayi and the Angels, and several standing ovations - after Sex is in the Heel, Everybody Say Yeah, Soul of a Man, and Hold Me in Your Heart. It made an amazing atmosphere for a special performance. At the end, Kayi and Joel did some speeches about how although the show itself is over, its message is more relevant than ever. I hope this will go out on tour again in the near future! I can imagine this revived pretty soon for another tour. Seems to have done pretty well. I wonder if Phil McIntyre will get his mitts on it... Klonky Boots.

Or Bill Kenwright’s ‘One Slightly Saucy Boot’. I can see the marketing now. Kenwright gets Kinky, but not really. But maybe. Starring Beverley Callard as Lauren and Ainsley Harriot as Lola.

Forgot to mention this in my post about closing, but the New Theatre in Hull is actually a really nice venue - recently refurbished, gorgeous auditorium and lovely staff. Sat at the back of the stalls for £25 and it was perfect, the overhang of the circle didn't affect anything and the sound was great. They are getting several big shows next year like Six and Les Mis, so it's worth checking their website if you live within reasonable travelling distance.

We saw an incredible amateur KB this evening at The Playhouse in WSM. I hated this at the Adelphi, quite liked it on tour but watching Weston Operatics tonight perform their last of 4 performances added many new dimensions. 6 great varied angels, an absolutely phenomenal Lola (didn’t get a programme so no idea of their name) and the bits that grate when they shoehorn in every last member into ensemble numbers, made perfect sense and just gave it a bit more ooomph.

Apparently this is touring again from next year, Johannes from Strictly as Lola. To be announced soon. Although the last time I tried to have a scoop, it changed last minute so take this with a pinch of salt

I was listening to the Off Menu podcast the other week where Johannes was the guest. They talked a bit about his background which included cruise ships. He recounted how after he left the ships he had gone for one of the leads in Priscilla (not sure where) he was only offered ensemble so he turned it down. Sounds like he might be an all rounder.

If true, I can't imagine he would do the full tour as he would be busy with strictly from August onwards. Unless it's just a short tour

Physically (and a little bit facially), he reminds me of J Harrison Ghee who was a brilliant Lola. If he can sing and act, I would say he would be a decent celebrity signing

I am a big fan of Johannes but I was hoping Cedric Neal would get a proper go at this after his incredible performance as Lola at the concert a year or so ago. He was amazing!
