If you do your research, London's most famous theatre was known to be famous for Variety and Pantomime, infant, I very long history of Pantomime! www.its-behind-you.com/palladium.htmlJesus, pantomime is a historic British tradition, get over it. It is great entertainment for the provinces, sadly not for the West End. There’s a history of pantomime, this unique British theatre tradition, throughout the west end , not just at the Palladium. The Victoria Palace (Paul O’Grady in Snow White, John Inman and Arthur Lowe in Mother Goose), the Prince Edward (when it was the Casino) Twiggy, Wilfred Brambell and Harry H. Corbett (Steptoe & Son) in Cinderella, the Phoenix Theatre (Dana in Snow White), Strand Theatre (Marti Caine in Snow White), the Dominion (Keith Harris in Humpty Dumpty, Michael Barrymore in Aladdin) and these are just some recent ones off the top of my head, prior to these seasons several west end theatres regularly presented pantomime. Of course Drury Lane always had pantomimes, many years ago. It’s fantastic to see pantomime back in the west end , in such spectacular style, show cased in the heart of Britain’s theatre industry. Why wouldn’t pantomime be presented there? And as hulmeman says, tell Qdos pantomime shouldn’t be presented in the west end when they are counting the takings.

Americans must pity the state of West End theatres, when this takes up London’s most famous theatre. They’re probably too busy raving over “Spongebob Squarepants” to care.

The west end is more in need of a panto than anywhere else.
Regional theatres generally don't book touring shows over Christmas and put the panto in.
In London it's business as usual.

I'm excited about this BUT I have seen the last 2 and I really do not want to see Julian Paul and Nigel again! Lilly savage as the evil queen would have been amazing but happy to be seeing Dawn onstage for the first time,

Don’t forget quite a few American actors have not been averse to appearing in this lucrative entertainment. David Hasselhof, Pamela Anderson , Linda Gray, Micky Rooney , Jerry Hall, Steve Guttenberg, Priscilla Presley, the late Verne Troyer, George Takei , Henry Winkler . With varying degrees of success , it must be said . I’m not sure why the Americans (in general) should be a benchmark of good taste in this matter.

Theatre snobbery is incredibly boring. There's no law that says that the West End is sacred and Broadway is hallowed and therefore only The Most Deadly Serious Art may be performed there and anything else is the end of all civilisation. I'll take fifteen pantomimes and a full week of SpongeBob SquarePants over only ever watching the most tedious po-faced humourless garbage that has been deemed by the critics to be Worthy of the Great Honour of playing London's Glittering West End or whatever.

Sam Barks will be doing Pretty Woman on Broadway so she’s out. How are Cynthia Erivo? I'd love to be a fly on the wall when the poor person who draws the short straw has to deliver that offer.

Would have been rightly controversial and offensive. Paul Zerdin is using the same puppet again so I suspect it will be more of the same.

Should’ve kept one of them back for Prince Charming.

Should’ve kept one of them back for Prince Charming. I'm thinking Blake Lisle, rocking the Errol Flynn look.

SpongeBob has about as much in common with a pantomime as Thriller has with Hamilton! I’m not sure how much raving there has been about Spongebob really but as one of the only Brits on the board who has seen it (as far as I can tell), it deserves every one of the 22 award nominations it’s received from The Outer Critics Circle and Drama Desk. It’s so not the cynical corporate money spinner that people seem to dismiss it as being. I’m not a fan of the cartoon particularly but in my opinion, the show is one of the most life-affirming, joyous, clever, and uniquely creative productions I’ve ever seen. Anyway, back to this year’s QDos offering...

Is Qdos doing more pantomimes at the Palladium after this year’s?

Is Qdos doing more pantomimes at the Palladium after this year’s? it was a three year contract and this is the third year- that said, I'd be very surprised if, given the success that they have enjoyed, they didn't do another one. Unless the Palladium have a long runner lined up, in which case I would expect Qdos to seek an alternative venue.

Will this be a big seller Do these things tend to sell out during the Presale? Just wondering if tickets will be left to the general public come next Friday

I'm guessing the show will do well but if the Palladium does get a long running show in then things become complicated as other theatres have ongoing shows and QDOS would need a venue sorted and of a decent size to make it viable.
Good to see they are using proper dwarfs.

No worries. Last year it even went on TKTs. I have not yet seen ticket prices but do look on the Palladium site because there are specials for families on certain Sundays. And you will not have to pay booking fees.

The palladium won’t be getting a long running show. Andrew Lloyd Webber wants it to be used for short runs only from now on.

The palladium won’t be getting a long running show. Andrew Lloyd Webber wants it to be used for short runs only from now on. Why is that? Surely a long-runner would be better financially? The theatre is so big and the costs are so high, that shows end up actually hemorrhaging money (take I Can't Sing running for something like 6 weeks in 2014?). The last real long-running show the Palladium had was The Sound of Music which ran from Nov 2006 - Feb 2009 and both Sister Act & The Wizard of Oz had respectable runs of around a year and a half each in 2009/10 and 2011/12 respectably. Since then, it's just been limited runs or planned open-ended runs that were cut short, so I do understand the decision - and actually I think it allows us to see many high-quality productions and concerts come through in the same amount of time that an open-ended run might be attempting to struggle through!

Age-wise, any recommendations? Wondering if this is suitable for a four year old?
I sent my Australian husband to see a panto last year (Jack and the Beanstalk at the Shaw Theatre), his first one, and he was not impressed. Neither was the then three year old, who said it was not as good as the Lion King or Aladdin!!
I figure I have one more shot to get them to appreciate panto.
