I don't know about Cardiff or Birmingham, but in the provincial city of Sheffield this is being marketed as "a new comedy". That's not true, is it?

I've just had a look at Lesley Garrett's personal website, where it is described as "a revised edition". The date of the West End opening is also given as 3 December. Where will that be then? Presumably, it will only be a short run somewhere, over the festive period.

I'd guess the Wyndham's as it has the same producers as The Height of the Storm which is due to finish there on 1st December.

I'd guess the Wyndham's as it has the same producers as The Height of the Storm which is due to finish there on 1st December. Won't be the Wyndham's in December as Bill Bailey is doing a short run there 3rd Dec - 5th Jan. |

I wonder if they will do any Sunday matinee shows or are they sticking to traditional Monday to Sat as there is no indication on the webpage. Might ask at the box office on Sunday when I’m there for Eugenius!

Also touring to Chichester, Cheltenham and Richmond prior to The Other Palace, if those theatres are more convenient and/or cheaper!

Saw this the other night in Birmingham. Thought it was good, but not great. Good performances from the three, but couldn't help but think the humour felt a bit tired in places and I actually felt bored at times, though I have a feeling I may have been in the minority. Will be interesting to hear other people's thoughts on here (for all you revolve fans, there is one in this - but need to wait until Act 2!).

Considering the Saturday 1st Dec matinee (2:30) at Richmond before making my way to the National for A&C for 7:00.
(Amazing the difference 10 miles makes, Richmond half the cost of The Other Palace)

Running is 120mins plus interval.
I quite enjoyed this show. Found it very funny places. Some parts of the show need trimming. Could be five mins shorter.
Was impressed by the cast of three.

Thanks jason71 , booked, enjoyed Ben Hur at the Tricycle a few years ago which piqued my interest in this and from the primarily positive feedback it appears the silliness quotient is similarly high. |

Yes it was about 2 hours 20 including interval.
I haven't seen Ben Hur nor any other of Patrick Barlow's work so maybe the humour just didn't translate to me as well. Hope you enjoy it, jason71!

Good not great sums it up.
Really missed Desmond Olivier Dingle, Hugh Dennis’s character is too similar and he didn’t quite make it his own.
Without this distraction, an excellent way to ease into Christmas especially if you have no previous knowledge of the National Theatre of Brent.
If you like your humour puerile and can get a cheap seat at The Other Palace, may be worth a punt.

I love Hugh Dennis, think he is still excellent on Mock the Week.
I didn’t love this though and there is a fine line between smart humour and forced humour, this was definitely forced and I laughed exactly twice, at the Christmas gag and call the midwive gags.
Other than that it was painful, so that is why it gets a pitiful 1 star.
